Just participated in a local plein air painting event here in South Jersey. GREEN everywhere! I spent about 2 +/- hours on the scene and was fairly happy with it, except that the values of all the green blended together making the painting look flat with no center of interest jumping out.. Thank you for this video which has made me realize that there are far more choices of color combinations to make foliage more exciting.
Dear Tim, Im a total beginner in acrylic painting. I just want to tell that your videos are very helpfull. You are such a systematic, detailed and careful teacher and adress fundamental questions that is hard to figure out by my self. Thank you :-)
Not sure how I missed this one.....I'm about to my own color chart. I was out yesterday painting plein air....and my greens were a mess. Time to buckle down and figure them out. Thanks Tim. Hope you are well and having a great day.
This is very helpful thank you so much. I am painting hand made leaves at the moment and it is very difficult to get a natural looking green even though I have a LOT of greens! I'll use this chart to get it right, wonderful thanks.
Greens became a lot easier for me once I stopped using them out of the tube. I do use Sap Green and Terre Verte. Other than that I try to make all my greens by mixing yellows. Good luck with your painting!
gagnonstudio Thank you again so much Tim. I've been following you from the beginning and bought most of your DVD's, they helped me get the brush onto the canvas. I'm now beginning to do well doing abstract 3D flowers with hand made embellishments but it was YOU who gave me the confidence to start and overcome my fears. You have my very best wishes always and I wish you continued success.

this video is very helpful for me. Thank you so much. But i have one question. are you painting a canvas? is it ok if i make a color chart on A4 paper?
I like your chart layout. But on my monitor your yellow ochre looks like orange! You didn't mention what kind of black? Ivory? Lamp? Mars? Or just what we already own? I have always had trouble with my greens. Thanks for sharing!
How do i make a yellow orange into a yellow green ? I think my yellow has some orange in it cause i get mud greens when mixed with blue. I have red blue yellow white that's all.. help anyone !!!!
Good question, and something I should have pointed out. I used Mars. Each black will create a slightly different color, so you can also add those other blacks to your chart to make it more in depth.
i am an oil painter and i know one thing do not let this man tell you that to do ivory black is what i use or make your own black with 50%blue and 50% raw umber
@@Seabed3434 while the blue/umber is a nice black that you can make warm or cool, Ivory Black is a deep blue and why mixing it with yellow makes a green. This isn't as true with the blue/umber black, although the blue will make green and the umber will grey it.
You said in this video to click on your site for a picture of this chart, page not found???? Thanks for the video..Helpful, but hangs every 7 seconds.. Hard to get though.
tanis shapka You can tell that by the way he gives all of this free help! Always be wary of generously talented people because they will rob you blind!!!
I had to do this for 2D fundamentals, flawlessly. *twitch twitch* I had panic attack when I was done. ;-; 144 perfect swatches with 10 rejects for each one of them. *cries* There is nothing like crying under a large drafting table.

When youbsay white do you mean titanium or zink white?
I used titanium for this video
Which black were you using in the chart? Mars, Ivory, carbon....?
Good question, and something I should have pointed out. I used Mars. Each black will create a slightly different color, so you can also add those other blacks to your chart to make it more in depth.

color mixing chart NOT FOUND
nice video
Thank you!
The reason that black added to yellow makes a green is that there is blue in the black...especially true with Ivory Black.
yes Ivory Black is a part of the Zorn palette and Zorn used it as a deep blue. Other blacks don't work as well.
Thank u 😙
why can't we see the writing (colors) ?
The olor mixing chart visit: www.timgagnon.com/news/mixing-... is 404, no longer available.
Why werent you posting?
I've been busy creating online painting lessons, but have a break now to do a few youtube videos.
