If you want to get introduced to Samaritan people, check out Abood Cohen. That's right, Arabized first name, Hebrew last name. They are torn in the conflict by staying completely neutral, not picking sides. They know that Jews and their people are one, both are ancient nation of Israel. But they survived all these millennia by not upsetting regional powers whether Christian or Muslim. Their places of prayer in Shechem (Nablus) are unmarked from the outside.
They are respected by many Palestinian Arabs because they are few in number, no threat to anyone, and keep themselves to themselves, quietly. They are also loved by Israeli Jews (at least by those who know them, like me), they are our brothers.

The Samaritans are Israelites, not Jews. They were a separate people over 2000 years ago. They follow their own Torah, they have a different Hebrew writing or font. They are the Israelites that stayed or returned after the Assyrian invasion.

A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

Jesus answered, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the host, and said to him, 'Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.' Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?"
He said, "He who showed mercy on him."
Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
      - Luke 10:30-37

Surprised Israelis are so oblivious about themselves. Today Samaritans are genetical probably more Israelite then jews coming from all over and having very mixed blood due intermarriage with European and Arab locals throughout the diaspora. After the Assyrian exile, in which the northern tribes Manasse and Eprahim were not deported, from which todays Samaritans claim descendance, it was the other way around. Samaritans in the north were accused of having mixed with too many non Israelites and not being pure in the religious doctrine. Hence the religious and ethnic schisma. Also Eli plays a role in that. Likely due old historical heartache and fear to blend in and disappear within mainstream judaism, Samaritans don’t want their children to marry jews. Due lack of brides, young Samaritan girls do tend to marry Israeli jewish guys, they indeed created a wedding market between them and Ukrainian young ladies. So in future they will mainly be of Slavic blood. Major part of the nation’s history and cultural makeup. Look it up. Know your history and people.
