      Dude... The fact that WooHoo rigs are built with superheterodyne receivers instead of a "radio-on-a-chip" makes their radios worth the premium over their 'feng brethren, yet still a great value among its business-band peers like Motorola and Icom.

    MUUUURRS! So I may or may not have done little test my not UV-5R tonight with MURS, FRS, and GMRS. In theory there was one radio with an external antenna and another in car with a whip antenna. If this test had actually happened, it would have taken place out in the country, rural area, with dense woods. To my surprise, MURS had the best reception and distance, if it had actually taken place. I got, in theory, about 1.5 miles with FRS, 3.5 miles with GMRS, and right at 5 miles with MURS. If it actually happened.

    I am a marine operator. I like MURS frequencies for internal communications. 1.The range is better than uhf because our antennas are tuned for vhf. We would never use it on our Baofengs, that would make a ham very sad.

    Been using M.U.R.S. radios for over 15 years and love it. One thing that users will have to get use to is that security motion detectors use the frequencies. You will hear Alert zone 1, 2.3.4.coming from the security devices off and on. I use 4 Murs motion detectors on my 10 acrea property. KK7T.

    Cross country comment: Many log truck drivers in Maine and elsewhere use MURS so if driving on woods roads when hunting, fishing, hiking and yes, off roading, it’s the frequency for safe travels.

    Back in 2005, I worked part time at the local Radio Shack. They had some MURS mobile radios for sale and I picked them up on clearance for like $20 each. I sold them on eBay shortly afterward. I kind of wish I hadn’t.

    Won't be surprised to see a MURS mobile radio before long. Good to see someone talking about it. FCC needs to up the ERP on it. 25 watts wouldn't interfere with the Wally world users.

      I don't think there's really a need for 25 watt radio in MURS. It changes the intent of the service. A 25 watt rig in the parking lot probably would block the Walmart guy in the garden center from talking to the customer service desk. If you want more range and power, go get your GMRS or other licensed service radio.

  • @deadeye2924
    @deadeye2924 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This has nothing to do with MURS. But, I was caught up in traffic the other day and tried to get a traffic update using my FRS radio. Pretty much useless. I could not reach anyone. Even the people that were talking on the channels would not respond. I'm pretty sure it was because they were using a "Privacy Codes" and I could not break their squelch.
    This is my idea. Like the old CB days Channel 19 was used for general talk or traffic updates. You are in the position with 47K followers to try and establish FRS 19 (2 Watts) with NO privacy code as the new Channel 19. It might make a good video on your site.
    Love your videos. Informative and educational. Thank you....

    Old vid, however, I’ve decided to use MURS version of Retivas brand (church budget) but would like a 2 channel version so there could be an “isolated” security conversation channel. Retivas had a version but it’s “no longer available “. You’re knowledgeable - would you know of another brand. I’ve put in the same question to “buy two way radios “ but maybe you are king of radio knowledge?

    I work in timber and had limited success with GMRS. Some areas do have repeaters, but they are not always available or have paywalls. MURS may have better results due to terrain and trees? - worth a try. Most projects are in Cal Fire CZU and they use Repeater Mobile (RM) @151.370. Wildland fire handhelds like the BKR5000 run @$3,000(!) nope I prefer disposable chinese radios

    On Buytwowayradios dot com, they have a nice Nagoya NA-771G antenna tuned for GMRS. Though no advertised for MURS, it is a dual-bander that works as well on your MURS rig as it does on your GMRS kit. Something to consider for your WooHoo KG805M. I like that the KG805M is a superheterodyne rig, which helps justify its $99 price, in my opinion, and thus it's on my shortlist of things to do sometime soon :)
