    I love this new format. I can actually see the work being done instead of just hearing about it. Regarding teaching people "to suck eggs" I completely agree, there are a lot of people already doing it mostly because they just discovered how to do it themselves. You are in a position to draw on your vast experience and show and teach the next level.
    Also, the filming, lighting, camera angles have improved exponentially, Bravo. This is of course my own opinion, but for somebody who has been tinkering with motorcycles for over 50 years this channel has become a whole lot more useful. Thanks.

    I bet most of your viewers are fairly novice at this kind of thing .. but find it very interesting.. so I’m glad that you explain some of the things you’re doing !!! Well done ..!!!Einstein said that if you can’t explain your subject to a 6 year old .. you don’t know it well enough!!! I think you’re explanations are so simple and easy to understand.. you obviously know you’re subject well !!! Thank you 👌👌

    I was told you needed a special tool to hold the clutch basket to remove the centre nut. I was impressed that you could do the same job with just an index finger. Keep up the waffling 👍

      There are some amazing methods. I've seen my mate remove the large clip on a Lambretta clutch by compressing it with a shovel, levering it off a bolt in the casing, instead of using a compression tool 😂😂😂

    Very informative video. I wish TH-cam was around when I had to replace the gears for 2nd on my 1987 GSXR 1100. I don't know how many times I read the service manual before I convinced myself I would not screw up my motor.

    You can use a magnet to remove the clutch bearing and spacer. And no problem to tighten the clutch basket, stator rotor, starter clutch and front sprocket with air or electric wrench. But that's the only time I use it on my Busa. Master video! .👍

    49:26 that would explain why aftermarket gear indicators usually worked via plug and play, I used to wonder how they magically knew what gear you were in when the bike only came with a neutral indicator from factory.

      Aftermarket indicators work via engine speed and gearbox output shaft speed.

    Great vid Jim, but I was looking forward to you fitting the lower case to the upper, I wanted to watch you fit the selector forks and your method of doing so, as you lower the crankcase down. But you edited or left that crucial part out of the filming dang it!!
    It’s not easy, you have to hold the selector forks in the right positions while keeping them engaged into the channels of the shifter drum, real fiddley job!
    I’ve done the same job on a Busa engine, replacing the pushrod seal.

    Jumps a wee bit when I engage gear I've also fitted an ignition advance what can I do to remediate this? Could it be the new advance?? Thanks again for the videos brilliant and informative....

    Found some invoices from you in a recent project I bought, so at least someone who knows what they are doing have been inside. About a week later you came back on here!
    Silly question, how do you get your micro fibre cloths so clean, are they one use and binned?

      Haha what a brilliant question 😁 I have a system! The short answer is...they start out new, usually get washed a couple of times depending what they were used for, slowly demoted until they are used to wipe the floor and then end up in the bin.

    waffles from brussels are fine , but waffels from ssl i like betta. all the best
    jim toptip put 2 treathed rods on the stator side of the block. cover will be easier to put on.

    nice video !! i realize your only doing the seal for the clutch rod.. if it was my own bike I would replaced the main . and rod bearings while i was is the bottom end its only $100 more for parts and also show how and where to put the sealer on the casing to prevent clogging the oil gallery and how to inspect the shift drum and the gear dogs on 2nd gear and what to look for, being that is a Hayabusa problem and how to inspect the shift fork and how the gear dogs can be machined / undercut if there is ware . the bottom end is really not that bad of a job but i do recommend getting a manual for tourq spec. and the manual shows where to put the sealer owe i also recommend flushing the oil orifice jets in the casing flush the oil strainer or replace it seeing how bad the clutch wore

      Thanks for the comment, I've got a separate massive long video all about gearboxes! You could change the main and big end shells but I've no idea why you would? It'd be a complete waist of time and money. They are there to make up the oil clearance, nothing more. Shouldn't be any wear whatsoever regardless of mileage.

    I wish I had been a mechanic instead of serving my time as a vehicle body builder. Don't get me wrong I made a good enjoyable living from it and the experience came in handy in all sorts of diy too but watching someone stripping an engine like that and explaining everything and why it's like that is ace. I do my own bike stuff but still learning at 50 🤣👍
    Oh and the gear position indicator thing, I was once told that if I fit a switch from a busa to my bandit I would be able to plug in a gear position indicator. Do you know if this is right?

    Where you based Jim i think my rocker cover gasket has gone ie GSXR K4 spat oil out above the manifold and if so is it easy enough to fix ?? im daft not stoopid ;-)

    Don’t think he soaked the clutch plates in oil if he did change them that would explain the rust 🤨 cracking job Jim

      i am old school mechanic we never soaked clutch plates back in the 70's-80's and 90's so that must be something new i am hearing about i can see that if you are running cork plates like Barnett clutch's but the oem fiber plates really dont need soaked

    Really enjoyed that. Couple of comments. Isn’t it a good idea, if it’s your own bike anyway, to grease one side of the gaskets so that they can come apart without tearing next time? When you rattled the clutch nut off did you mark up the shaft ? You said the nut had a tab on it or something like that? Oh yeah one other thing, foot lbs on a Suzuki? Not Nm?

      Thanks for the comment 😁 I agree that grease on one of the gasket surfaces is a good idea if it's likely to come apart in the near future (race bike for example) it's unlikely to come apart again for many years so really not necessary. The nut is much softer than the gearbox shaft so wouldn't mark it. You'd likely do damage to the shaft if you tried to bend up the punched over part locking it to the shaft. Best to just undo it. Most service manuals give lbs-ft and Nm. I'm old school and my brain works in lbs-ft 🙃

    So much anxiety watching you just taking off parts, bolts and washers and just setting them on the counter. Obviously your a master but the rest of us (well me anyway)would be busy writing labels on many many ziplock bags.

    My father was a motor engineer for aircraft engines (with SAAB)... The amount of times he preached cleanliness around engines were uncountable, one time when I took his car to the Audi dealer for service he had asked me to tell them to clean the engine bay and motor - when I came back to pick it up they had refused to do so "to clean". My father was not amused.
    (He also assumed that all mechanics no matter the type went through as rigorous training and held the same standard as aircraft technicians... Thus he refused to work on his car, lawn mower etc since he wanted "up to date with the manufacturers all bulletins and procedures. Perfection can go overboard.)

    Нужно выточить алюминиевую заглушку 33.5мм диаметром, и установить в нее снаружи дешевый стандартный сальник 6*16*5. Который можно менять снаружи. Не снимаю и не разбирая мотор. Надеюсь конструктор который поставил так сальник будет гореть в аду.
