Wawrinka still generates so much quality and power in his shots. Understandably, the legs are not the same anymore.

Grigor is 22-9 in tiebreaks this year, quite incredible
He might be 23-9 after today? It’s pretty amazing given how bad he used to be in tiebreaks especially in 2020-22. Even last year he was 18-18. Every time he played a TB I’d be writing the set off. But his serve and mentality have improved a lot this year!

The shot quality of wawrinka at 39 years old is absolutely insane. He plays at a higher level then Nadal did the last couple years at a 37
Love Stanimal, but Rafa won AO and FO and didn't lose a match until after FO in 2022, aged 35 I think...
@@daserdferkel7388 35 and 39 is a massive difference in tennis. You can still be a top player at 35, but 39 means either retirement or very close to retirement.
While I may contend that Nadal sapped his energy more quickly and severely with all the great battles to win 22 Grand Slams, it is mighty impressive Wawrinka is striking the ball the way he is and that he was able to win a three-setter! (It's tough when you're 39)

Yet Nadal is rank 153 vs Wawrinka 217 and Nadal has 12-7 record this year vs Wawrinka who is 6-14, including more wins over higher rank players.

Stan the Man deserves to win one last title before calling it a day. A Grand Slam might be too much but a 250 title is doable. Rooting for Stan or Dimitrov the 2 old timers of a bygone generation of great one handers.
dude dimitrov is alot younger and still at his best speed wise, stan is nowhere near as fast as he was(and he never was that fast eitherway)
Dimitrov isn't as clutch but he's got much of the bite & beauty of Federer's game

Wawrinka won meaning got some OK money 4 him n his coach but MOST of all, allow him to play on. He can play 2-3 more years if he keeps on his fitness, like running 10K regularly, and *especially flexibility training every day, I mean EVERYDAY flexibility!
