      @Qi QI I have a desktop with 1660 ti, 32gb 3200, and a i7 10700f, I recently bought the VP2 and it runs perfectly fine with a lower resolution. I am planning on getting something like the RTX 4080 when it releases to get the max res but for now if your fine with using lower res and refresh rate it is probably fine

    Hey Cas! That's a great review, completely spot on. I have a Vive Pro, a HP G2 and now a Pro 2. I think the Pro 2 edges out the G2 simply because of tracking and the use of Steam VR. WMR has always been flaky for me, and having a very high res headset through steam vr is a perfect combination. I also noticed the buzzing in the audio and it seems to be a common problem, but it's forgivable given the other advantages of the headset. I'll definitely be using the Pro2 instead of the G2, but I'll still use my OG Pro when going wireless, because the new displays are wasted when using wireless. Yes, it's expensive, but HTC also say this isn't targeted at consumers, it's a Pro headset for business. So it can't be compared to the Facebook headset on price. Great job covering everything in your review. Keep up the great work.

    Hello thank you as always for the awesome and well done review. I agree with every point you made. I am a OG Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Cosmos(which I RMA'd) owner and I preordered the Vive Pro 2, and I requested the RMA 2 hours after I opened the box. I think my behavior helps underscore the emotional disappointment I felt. The Audio buzz was also an issue on the headset I received and I can't believe they went to market with that level of audio quality. Although the sweetspot image looks great and no screen door finally the edge blurriness was too much to feel satisfied with the improvement. I also noticed the glare right away. If you are in a dark environment and you stand looking away from a light source the glare actually lights up within your FOV. I saw two bright points of light in my FOV from a light that was behind me. That was super strange. This other thing I noticed is they seemed to design the FOV around the shape of the mask so instead of the oval shaped view I am used to it looked like looking out of a scubba mask. I am sure with time that is a non-thing but I just noticed it. Anyway I absolutely loved my vive and the vive pro is amazing and my only complaint on the original pro is screen door and FOV. I just couldn't come to feel that the Vive Pro 2 was enough improvement to hold onto. I am now awaiting any announcement from Valve on a next gen release. I think I am switching brands. If Vive fixed the audio issue on the Pro 2, or the customer is willing to get their own headphones it will be an awesome entry into VR but for an existing Vive Pro user I don't feel its enough.

    So my pro 2 showed up yesterday. I'm coming from a rift 2 and quest 2. PROS: color and contrast (very impressive considering LCD), zero screen door for me, audio way better than used to, way better FOV! (I'm using VRCover Mod) heard people talk about its Like looking through slits but I didn't feel that way at all. The FOV was my favorite part or this. (I do not wear glasses). Cons: sweet spot very small (takes me a few seconds to find it each time. I'm not used to that), god rays (not used to them to this degree and they do suck in high contrast games), edge to edge clarity (I noticed I had to move my head more than just my eyes vs the rift or quest, very clear in center though). Heavy headset! It's well balanced and normally comfortable but I noticed when I look up to say look at a sky or dragon fly overhead I can feel the weight more pushing on me. Not a big deal but most reviews saying it very comfortable but that's not my experience always.) Oh and the Vive base stations (ordered separately) 2.0 came with one dead so that sucked but vive support was amazing and they hooked me right up with a new one.

      @@CasandChary No Problem, thank you for always getting out good reviews! I do not regret my decision for the VP2 coming from the rift S at all. One thing I noticed and it may be because I'm only running a 2070 GPU ( for now)but when I set the vive console to a resolution steamVR seems to change it even if I set steam vr to only be 1x or 100%. Have you noticed this? Maybe steamvr changes based on your GPU regardless of Vive settings? Anyways keep up the amazing videos, you guys are great!

    • @Darktidejg31
      @Darktidejg31 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Qi QI So my 2070 can't fully push the VP2. I do not know about the 1660. I can say my son had a 1060 (6Gb Video memory) and 16Gb ram and he could play the rift S fine in most games. Never tried the VP2 on it though, sorry. He upgraded to a 3080ti and a Reverb G2 so we don't have the 1060 anymore or I would test it. I can tell you you will not be able to run it at full specs but possibly performance mode.

    Great review! I've received my Vive Pro 2 two days ago and I also noticed the constant buzzing mentioned at 12:14. It seems to be related to the display somehow because it gets louder the brighter the scene is. I didn't have time to test it further, but I will do so on the weekend. I really hope this problem can be fixed through the software, because it might be a dealbreaker for me.

    I enjoyed this review so much and you are so well spoken and informed. I was wondering how the display stacked up against the hp Reverb's and of course you satisfied my curiosity. I did not know that the full resolution is not supported with the wireless adapter. Next gen WiGig (The 60ghz tech that I'm pretty sure the Vive wireless adapter uses) will support a bandwidth of up to 20-40gbps and will most likely be sufficient enough to push this headset's full res at 120hz. Hopefully this comes to fruition. This is one of the best reviews for anything that I've ever watched!

The things I don't like, first the max IPD could be larger, I have an IPD larger than the adjustment, I can use the headset but it is not as in focus as it could be. Very nice review, Cas. I receive mine yesterday. Yep, the HMD runs hot, hotter than any other headset, which means in the summer i won't use it much, and it won't replace my Index for action/fitness games. It's odd, I'll use my Index with the vive wands, and the VP2 with the Index knuckles (I still find the wands better for anything that doesn't need a joystick).
    The clarity is very similar to my Reverb G1, but the godrays and glare make it a bit worse, but you gain perfect tracking.
    Oh, and one thing nobody has said, I really like that it has a turn on/off button. My other headsets I have to unplug, either the USB port of the mains adapter. It's very convenient.

      I have never heard of anyone preferring the wands. That's wild.

    • @valrond
      @valrond 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it's just the nature of those controllers. Sure the knuckles are good for what they are better than the wands, using supported games where you can use the finger tracking, and games with joysticks, as the wands don't have them. They are not very comfortable, AND, they are quite flimsy.
      When I play Beat Saber, BoxVR, Audioshield, Powerbeats VR, Thrill of the fight, etc, why would I risk damaging the Knuckles when they offer not a single advantage over the wands?

    What's interesting is you say Vive pro 2 suffers from a noticably smaller vertical field of view compared to the others. but you measured it measured bigger than the G2 and only 1 degree smaller than the quest 2. Makes me think the scale is off inside the headset., maybe a smaller scaled world which would cheat the fov measurement. Do you feel the scale is correct when playing games? Or maybe you're just more used to the index s biggest vertical field of view. Id also like to hear more about the distortion you noticed but only mentioned once.

    Really looking forward for the Vive Pro 2!
    Having both the Vive Pro 1 + Wireless Adapter is a game changer for me! A lot more than Quest 2 and their Link/AirLink solution. The Quest 2, imo, has the worst FOV of any headset I ever used - Yes I am on the 3rd setting as my IPD is 69mm -_-. The Compression and macroblocking as well as the extreme low resolution when using Air Link or Link, for that matter, really kills it when comparing it with the Vive Pro + Wireless.
    Can't wait for the update to the Wireless adapter to support higher resolution, even if not 1:1 as native, that bump in resolution @90hz should be most then enough. (I wish they could support full fat resolution at 120hz via wireless, but they can't as they hit the bandwidth limitation of 60Ghz WiGi spec ^_^ Maybe in Wireless Adapter V2 ^_^)
    Thank you very much for this review which is very informative!
    PS: I wonder if someone will actually make VR lens mods like for the original Vive and Vive Pro ^_^

    IMO, the Vive Pro with the GearVR lens swap is the best setup. I couldn't stand the fresnel lenses on the original pro, I can't stand the double stack on the Index, and I can't imagine the Pro 2 is any better with the issues that fresnel brings and which seem to be further accentuated by high res displays. Unfortunately, since the Pro 2 moved to a double stack like in the Index, and the shape is now different, that means the GearVR mod is not a viable option. I can only hope eventually someone will release a quality, high res, lighthouse tracked, non-fresnel HMD, but until then, I'll be staying with the original Pro.

    Cas, which headset has the most content? It seems that it is still Viveport at $88/year subscription. The Oculus store is too small it seems. Can the Quest 2 play all the games in Viveport or is it something like "It can play around 80% of the apps/games on Viveport. The reason I still stick with Vive is because I get Viveport, Steam and Oculus Store through Revive, and thus, access to the most content, or am I am wrong and this has changed recently?

    • @heehee63
      @heehee63 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a quest 2 and I've used viveport through it. The quest 2 has access to the most games. Because every game on the viveport store is also on either steam and/or oculus store as well. And the quest has no problems accessing those stores so if it has difficulties playing a game on viveport, you can just use one of those other stores to play the game. Add to this the quest has a number of quest exclusive games no other headset can play (not even with revive). it for sure plays the most games. Yes, maybe only 80-90% of the viveport games will work with the quest (usually its a maps oculus controllers as vive wands issue which I'm not actually sure wont happen with index controllers too).. So what you lose isn't access to the game but free access through vivepirt subscription. Of course, the quest is almost a third of the cost as a vive pro 2 so you easily could buy every single game you wanted and missed out on in the viveport store and probably still have have hundreds left over.

So I think the Quest has the most content as you can combine all stores. But I don't think that's the thing, for newcomers, YES Viveport is a great service as there's so much to try (as mentioned). It's just that if you've been playing VR games for a while and you've played most titles, there's not much to look out for EXCEPT for Oculus games. We need someone else like HTC to step up in the content market and invest in some games too that's not Oculus exclusive. Here's to hoping it will happen. Btw, I talk about this at 16:28!

    I hope the Vive console is something that is not permanently needed for this headset, and that maybe (and it's a long shot) it will be natively supported in SteamVR. I really preferred not having to run extra layers on top of Steam VR, like what we had with the original Vive and the Valve Index.

    You don't need springs to take the headset off/on without dialing the knob. You hold it to your eyes like a pair of binoculars and then swing the frame up and down using the hinges. That is why the hinges are there. Once you have it fit comfortably you never need to mess with the knob. You state that the design is outdated and then say it's one of the most comfortable headsets. Why should they redesign something that works well? I would rather they spend development resources on the parts that don't work as well, like the lenses. I agree with most other points of your review. Thank you.

My colleague in Canada is being tasks to pilot something similar to what I am doing however, we were thinking he could save a lot of money and just use Quest 2s. This morning I realize that may not be the case because we want him to be able to have access to Steam and Viveport Infinity so that he has enough content available to craft a full middle school years curriculum of games and apps. I don't see that happening content and cost wise by using just the Oculus Store. I just watch Cas's side-loading video using an Android phone but honestly that looks sketchy and hard to manage for him as a school teacher in practical everyday deployment terms. Thoughts anyone? My thinking right now is the best setup for him is Oculus Quest 2s and HP Omen gaming PCs (at either 1K or 1.5K price per PC) = about $30k.

    The biggest problem are GPU prices.
    If you have not good GPU for it, especially if you use older gen headset for long time and want upgrade to newer generations, you cannot use all Pro2 features.
    I think most people will look more at prices and which headset will offer most of it. You might guess already: it's Quest 2. Prices are very sharp (379 EUR already for 64GB) and you get nice FOV and resolution. The resolution bump from Q2 to Pro2 is much smaller than resolution bump from Rift S or old gen Vive to Pro2.
    As long the GPU prices are too high, many people don't want spend too much money for it today. So i think Q2 will stay for many people choice #1.
    They will wait long as possible until GPUs are at better prices, then they have more money saved and can afford to buy Pro2.
    Now, you noticed the lack of HTC design and improvement in expensive headset. Lenses are again not great (not learned from Pro), same mic design, pretty same audio design. I have feeling they saved too much development time / invest and design almost right away with same design. And.... the controllers. That is very big shame! HTC is clearly lazy!
    I am afraid Pro2 will not win many hearts (unless you're for long time Vive user and still love it, also if you have many Vive accessory and wireless adapter... then you have no much choice and will go for Pro2) and not with high GPU prices today. 800 EUR is still a lot money for one headset.
    Good review and you compare well pros and cons. It's not clear winner today and has some outdated design, even it's still comfy and HTC has also doing it for 3rd party market. You can still buy 3rd party accessory and that is good for 3rd party industry. I think this is first reason why HTC keep the old design.
    Oh yeah: the heat is also bad. Many people don't want sweat more with hot headset. Why is this not cared to keep head cool?

    Owners of Oculus mobile devices will soon discover they are dissatisfied with these far less than ideal devices and their limitations.

    no reason to upgrade. I ditched the index, cause visuals were garbage, and apparently so is the vive pro 2. I picked up Vive pro from BHphotoVideo still bran new, did the clear lens mod swap, and now VR is 100x better. For sound I'm going to do the pro audio strap, and that's it. Done. No other VR set will be worth buying for a while until they fix that stupid fresno lens glare, blur low sweet spot crap. I looked deeper into it all and it happens with those new lenses because they are cheap to make. That's why the vive pro has better visuals than two. Resolution isn't everything btw. Not all computer can handle it anyways.

    Overpriced mediocre effort from htc once again. Its a real shame how much they have fallen since the original vive which was my favorite headset for a long time.
