    Henry George wrote Progress and Poverty in the context of abolition. He knew that de facto slavery could not be fully abolished without land reform, without ending the protected monopoly on a major part of the commons - land. If we implemented his Single Tax idea there would be a massive re-balancing of the economy towards the ordinary worker, and towards productive business.

    The inheritances that are discussed here derive mainly from land value, from owning land. If we taxed this instead of wages and doing business then workers and entrepreneurs would be able to leave inheritances instead of landowners - who accumulate wealth created by others. LVT still gets far too little discussion.

Blacks are not the only one's with a low capital base. What about Asian migrants - aren't they doing quite well despite often starting with nothing? And what about the regressive aspects of black culture?

      'Intelligence' as measured by academics is purely an abstract concept and various cultures scoring is scientifically proven to be 100% culture based. This is why asian migrants from *most* asian countries do well here. It is a specific demographic of intelligent people who are just smart enough to work hard and gtfo of whatever shit hole they come from. OTOH, the asians being displaced by shitty despots tend to do less well. There are plenty of videos and study on the topic. Educate yourself.

    • @afronational2340
      @afronational2340 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      bigQ we can't leave our kids inheritance. Blacks have 2.6% of the household income in the US while whites have 90%. When we don't have wealth to begin with or networks to access wealth generating assets, we will continue to stagnate and/or get priced out of America.

    • @josephjasen1293
      @josephjasen1293 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      bigQ the wealth gap or any gap for that matter is a natural occurrence. Take Africa, there’s all sorts land and resources that they own. Alas they wallow in abject poverty ! The mainstream reason that goes is that if not for imperialism they’d be far ahead! What folly! It’s been 60 years since the white man left the place and it is as if the continent froze in time. The issue that has been and continues to be central to economic development is cultural attitudes. You can give black Americans all the reparations and PhDs would change a thing if that black urban sub culture persists. That culture is counter productive.

    • @josephjasen1293

      Malik Lee why do blacks have 2.6%? What are their HS graduation rates? How many can read and compute at grade level? If not too many, that means even for blue collar jobs like plumbing, iT support, carpentry, electricians etc... that require basic certifications, they’d not qualify! Many whites with no HS qualification actually are certified plumbers, electricians etc... they have jobs which means they earn incomes. Blacks who don’t finish HS and refuse to get this jobs because the white man of govt owes them something, they’ll obviously lag behind. I know many blacks who have very decent jobs after graduating unfortunately they are a minority. The real challenge is choices, discipline and cultures. It matters.

      Privatizie Social Security would help. Look up what happened with Galveston School District Social Security. Private ownership of all the money you put into Social Security means you have something left even if you die soon after retirement age. Black people have historically shorter lifespans and would benefit from owning all the money that they put into Social Security rather than having it go away after death. But hey! Keep voting Democrat and you'll never see that happen.

    I will say this I would like for Dr. Darity to investigate some of the works of Thomas Sowell, Jason Riley, Walter E. Williams and then get back to me on the top. Because I am tired of Black complaining about race, racism, inequality etc. Black American lacks accountability, moral, and the ability to put differences aside to work together. If this society not working for you, I still think believe should be given the opportunity to go where they think things will be much more perfect. Because last I checked I have yet to see a movement to return to African if that is where you think you come from and will be treated much better.

      Marcus Garvey started the back to Africa movement and built ocean liners. He also had the endorsement of all African nations with money, land, and jobs. The black boule race traitors and the federal government stopped him. Imagine America losing all of its skilled labor tradesmen,blue color factory workers, and domestic workers. As well as farm workers. The country would've collapsed.

    • @WanderingSage24
      @WanderingSage24 ปีที่แล้ว

      The government would have to take accountability first. Let's start with the government copying the nazi ghetto experiment. Yep, America got the ghetto idea from Hitler. America experimented on blacks using the projects. Used welfare to push the men out of the homes. Assassinated all civil rights leaders and groups look up cointelpro. Deliberately flooded poor communities with crack, then started a fake war on drugs to fill for profit prisons. The American government deliberately sabotaged the black community. I'll also add how financial institutions played a part with predatory lending, hones,businesses, farm land , all lost. But they freely gave money to other racial groups to open up fast food, nail salons, beauty shops, liquor stores in the black community. The stores actually sell get high kits, and everything a drug dealer needs to poison the community, including the drugs. Yes, you can buy the scales, dope baggies, needle kits, etc. at your local corner store from the clerks all legal. But if you're caught as a dealer or addict you do hard time. And yes, many of these stores pay protection money to the local pd. I can talk about this all day. Everything is factual, and I've witnessed much of this in real life.

    The man being interviewed is very informative but can someone please explain for me why there has been so man whites who have lived in poverty for generations even though they were never slaves and never lived through Jim Crow. Also, why have Latinos outpaced blacks from a wealth obtainment standpoint?
    It seems like blacks have the access to purchase all of the things that doesn’t lead to wealth creation like fancy cars, jewelry, and clothing but for some reason are held back from access to wealth generation. Also we are afforded free education from K-through four years of college but we are still being held back in some way.

    I’m just curious as to how that work there are people whose ancestors didn’t live here during slavery. There are people who had nothing to do with economic disparities of black people. How do you take taxes from them for a crime in which they were not involved. Also, there were plenty of black men who owned slaves in the south. How do you decide who they were so that you can collect from their families as well. And what about the African nations that first enslaved and sold their brethren. Will you ask them for money? I guess I don’t understand how you decide who committed the crimes of the past that were so egregious that you can take from their descendants to give to people who were not victims of the original sin.

      Hmmm! When has white America as a group and individuals taken personal responsibility for 247 years of chattel slavery. However, it doesn't end there! Starting right after 1865 and the so-called end of slavery, the system white created went after black directly and indirectly through physical means. Post 1865, black have endured Jim Crow, black codes, lynchings, economic terrorism, political terrorism, school to prison policies, share cropping and etc. Part of the personal responsibility is to repair the damage done. This nation has and still gives some form reparation to native Americans, whites calling themselves Jew, Japanese put in interment camps during WW2, Ukraine now and etc. The Federal, state, and local governments have saw fit to give our reparation to groups specifically foundational black Americans who ancestors came off the slave reparation and the generation that followed that.
