Congrats on your early retirement . I’ve just hit 10 years living in Phil’s ( retired at 51) My missus already owned a home in Phils in a nice subdivision, but was pretty basic compared to our home in Australia Initially I wanted to do all sorts of renovations to make it feel like our western home. But the longer I stayed here the more I realised it wasn’t going to be easy finding good workers or would improve our lifestyle. A/C - comfortable bed and lounge- was all we really needed to be cosy. Over the years we have painted and repaired anything that needed doing, but I’m glad I never overspent trying to make our home a western money pit. Best tip I can pass on mate, keep your money and investments in your home country. Once a dollar is converted to peso, it never comes back. A wise old expat I met 30 years ago said “ make your money in the West and spend it in the East. Having a good woman by your side also makes a big difference to your adjustments living here full time, and it looks like you have that. Good luck mate 👍
Good luck on your new life in the Philippines! Philippines also has it’s “other side” just be careful and smart, ask the net and your wife if you’re in a bind or get in touch with some other of your brethren that took a great leap to live in Philippines there’s a lot of them in TH-cam alone.
HOME. Once you own one, regardless of new, old, or fixer upper. Maintain, Improve, Repair, Addition and Modify. The money flows. Main driving factor for the economy. Home Depot and Lowe's loves it 😁. I DIY'ed my house there, my so called vacation time is focused in the non stopped home construction and repair. Since you now set your foothold, and many things to do, take it easy. One step at a time.
When considering retirement in a foreign country, such as the Philippines, it is essential to engage in thorough planning to steer clear of potential challenges. Taking the time to research and prepare can help ensure a smooth transition and a fulfilling retirement experience.
It's what you take of it here it can be very stressful examples: the forever wide open volume karaoke😂, roosters at 3am everywhere, dogs all day and night, people burning, motorbikes swerving everywhere, no parking, people constantly begging, out of stock sir and thats everywhere, skin tax to the max now, almost everything closes for lunch, google maps showing where businesses are located only to see the closed or moved, I can go on and on but you know what cures it??? A few San Miguel lights after I safely make it back home😂😂😂😂oh make sure you have front and back cameras or you will be blamed guarateed😂 have a great retirement here as I am there's no stress👍😂
............and yet, you still continue to live here but keep on bashing the country.......hmnn!!! You're one of those double face westerner who lingers on the street of the philippines on a regular basis......a lot of them here. Most even disrespecting the locals.
You’re obviously broke and can’t afford to live in a decent area. In some poor run down province ? I live in a nice subdivision amongst middle to upper class locals who all have jobs. No barking dogs, roosters, or all night karaoke. Gate and roaming security and I’m not aware of a single robbery in the 10 years I’ve been here. In fact everyone respects each other’s peace and quiet and the HOA rules . Ive found the loudest foreign whiners are the ones that are financially stuck in their own misery.
It is so stressful how to meet ends due to high cost of living. The pressure on publicly traded companies to exceed the financial expectation and to cut cost will result to many layoffs despite making $billions of profit. Mostly affected are senior employees who make more money than the juniors. If you lose your job and don't have passive income, what are your choices?
The Philippines is nice country. However you need to be on your guard with scams, beggers, being setup and framed. Fraud is widespread and prevalent. Especially with real estate. So regardless of anyones financial security, tred very cautiously.
Good time to sale in u.s i dont have a lot of faith with Trump taking charge jan 20 2025. I see higher prices coming back inflaction. Confidence in economy will be lacking hope im wrong.
looks good on the wall
Its coming along. Still working on it if you can believe that. But looking good.
God bless always to you and family always positive

Not having a mortgage and car payment are going to be the biggest financial stress relief in your life and that will be once your US home sells.
Looking forward to it!
@Marker44 100%, glad your move to the Philippines has been somewhat easy aside from the paperwork for Chanel. Live life to the fullest my friend 😁
There's lots of stress here it's too much for a lot of expats that didn't plan well or just cant deal with every day life here

Put in some Security Cams up all around the house.
Did that a few years ago. Complete coverage.

You are totally wrong it be going down democrats screw this country up
Been that way for a few years now with high grocery prices, inflation, high gas prices. We've suffered through it.
No stress in the Philippines if you are dollar earner and spend Piso for cost of living.
