What a talent Frankie was! Yet, as talented and famous as he was, he never let it go to his head, and he always remembered his fans. I was lucky enough to be invited to Frankie's home and call him friend -- what a priviledge that was. There will never be another Frankie, and I miss him.....
You are right he is a legend. There will never be another person even close to Frankie Lane. When he sang this time you gave me mountain and had tears in his eyes at the end of the song, shows the emotion he puts into his songs. He is a true legend.
As usaul Mr Laine does a terriic job with this song. Some of my favorites, Shine, Black & Blue, Black Lace, Kiss for Tomorrow to name a few. I had the priviledge of seeing him many times in person and even attended "The Gandy Dancers Ball" that he had in NYC in the early 50's. He's one of the best of all times.
When and where was this made? It looks like Frankie still had it up until near the very end. It's a great performance. Thanks. Even though he was largely ignored by the media, it's great to see from the video that he was still appearing in classy venues with orchestras and performing in front of ample, appreciative crowds.
@rphull Up until about age 85 Frankie's voice was still strong and impressive. I can't think of another singer who sounded as good at such an age. I saw Ed Ames on a PBS special just shy of birthday number 80 and he sounded great. Perhaps he will carry on in the Laine tradition. As regards the song here, Steve and Eydie had the best selling recording on this one.
I'm listening (and singing along) to this, and thinking about how vibrant Mr. Laine's voice sounds, and then I think about Tony Bennett (in particular his duet with Amy Winehouse for her posthumous album), and even though it was Ms. Winehouse who died first, Mr. Bennett's voice sounds like...I don't know. When you talk-sing through your lyrics, either retire, or do whatever Colin Blunstone (of the Zombies) is doing--he sounds better at almost 70 than he did as a teenager!
whatever it is that you are smoking its ruining your ability to judge singers. Tony at 91 is still singing well! In the song you mentioned, you have your opinion but its skewered. It was a fine recording and sold well. Tony sang and did not talk as you are alleging!

Has anybody come across anybody on this planet that sounds like Frankie? No? I thought so. And that's why he's a legend.

stunning, fabulous, romantic, and glamorous voice of Frankie Lane
Wow, Frankie Laine was great on this ditty ... loved it ... great post, too, thank you!
I heard this song on a Cherry Poppin Daddies tape a long time ago. But I had no idea it wasn't their song. This is fantastic!!
The lyrics are tough to sing yet Frankie made it look easy. A class act.
How blessed I am to share a birthday with Mr. Laine. (Uh-uh, not the same year, LOLOLOL).

Frankie Laine does a great job of this - Robert Goulet also does a great version.

what a silly comment! Tony never talks his words! You just felt the need to say something negative about TB. I resent it!
