We own the non-hybrid version of this and it’s pretty terrific and fun to drive most specially with the sports mode. My friends say they love it because the buttons and the interior looks like an airplane cockpit at night when it’s all lit up. 😅
Chris, I think it’s really unique in that you understand the point of vehicles and not just write things off. There’s a huge market for people of a compact hybrid, and as much as I love Car & Driver, they’re not helping by says “buy an X3 and suck it up”. Love your variety of cars and categories that you like - I really doubt there’s anyone else who loves a BRZ as much as a RAV4 Plug in, as much as an old FWD Volvo. Great work.
The 18-present NX front ends definitely don’t look very good but the base 2015-16 NX front end is quite aggressive. My father owns a 2016 NX200t and it’s a terrific daily.
My wife had a 2019 before we got her a new Audi Q7 and I loved it . It was extremely comfy and did the job to get from A to B . The only thing I hated was the turning radius my DURNAGO SRT as big as it was had a sharper turning radius unfortunately. Even the new Audi that’s way bigger than the Nx has a better turning radius but the gas mileage is great and like you said .
In other world markets the NX's front end is more normal. Here in the states, it looks so odd because they were trying to keep costs down while keeping the car out of the "truck" class. Something odd like that.
Nice review, but where you said that it's a Lexusified older Gen Rav4 people might have mistaken that in a bad way. It's way way WAY more luxurious than the rav4 and it drives really diferently and it's really diferent apart from the power train which is ok. Great review though!
It really doesn't drive very differently than its counterpart. It is a slightly more luxurious, refined version of the previous-generation Rav4, as he said.
@@alh06 I own one and I have been in the older rav4 and driven it and the nx is much for comfortable, more quite and the interior quality is way better. The leather feels much better and there's stitching everywhere.
@@lex_uss First off, it's not real leather, it's synthetic. And obviously, it's more luxurious as I mentioned, the Rav4 is meant to be a rugged hauler, and the NX more refined. The stiching is artifical, and I've driven both. My uncle owns a dealership, even he knows there isn't a wide production margin, they are similar vehicles with slightly different tuning, it's why the transmission on the NX hybrid revs so much worse at high speeds than its counterpart. It's really not a debate, it's a slightly more premium version of an older generation.
@@lex_uss It is synthetic leather and a simple Google search warrants that information, and I don't know what you're referring to about the CVT, but I obviously know that, fuel economy shouldn't be prioritized over driving dynamics in a luxury car, there are options at play.
Hello. Nice video. How would you compare Lexus NX with mercedes GLC. Pros and cons? I currently drive Mercedes GLC 220d but thinking to switch to Lexus NX because reliability problems with my MB.
We bought the non hybrid because the non plug in hybrid we have in australia at the moment is to slow, and when the plug in hybrid comes to australia we will probably trade it in on the new one.
X3 is way better, at least until the NX is completely refreshed. Modern non m bmws aren't really unreliable. Lexus is not toyota, and people who easily believe old farts on TH-cam will lead you to believe that a BMW will break down every 5k miles and the lexus will be abssolutely bulletproof, but neither is true.
Great Review. Lexus’ continued use of that touch pad or mouse is ridiculous. Nice interior but kind of dated. Also, the real world fuel economy is kind of low. I am curious as to how this current gen NX will compare to the upcoming Venza hybrid.
Here in the UK my partner and I have the hybrid in FSport trim, the handling and ride are much tighter than the non-FSport and the seats are so much better! You can definitely have a bit more fun with it, kinda like the best in-between among the 3 variants of the NX. We average around 40mpg UK. The new model though couldn't come soon enough, the engine desperately needs to be updated... Also in the UK, the NX doesn't have that silly looking front snout and the Mark Levinson has always been available.
I am sorry to say this but all what you have said is an absolute untrue! I bought NX 300H almost new and had it for 3 years and it is an absolute rubbish of a car- it is very noisy at speeds it sluggish and sounds and feels like a tin can! Why are you even comparing it to a Rav4? 🤦🏻♂️ It is positioned as a luxury car and the price tag corresponds to it BUT it can be considered premium only against Chinese manufacturers. No way I would ever go back to NX. Sorry again but your review is misleading!
Kareem jenkins Lexus is 100% reliable yes, but if this is all what you want from a car then yes this car is for, if you want to have positive emotions like happiness and joy and pleasure then Lexus is definitely not the car
I hate the NX now. They've allowed it to get so dated that the 2 row RX seems to fit this class more than this does. This is even smaller than all its competitors and underpowered. The RX 2 row is closer to the price of the likes of the Q5, QX50, X3 or GLC and the power from the RX is more inline with what those offer depending on packages. I just think the NX isn't needed and it's sales are slipping and not a strong as when it was originally released. RX should stay 2 row, drop that useless RX-L and redesign the GX soon. This car is just meh, its too close to the UX in size and hybrid power. All the UX needs is the the 2.0T from this as an upgraded engine and this car will really be useless 💯
I noticed that the steering wheel is slightly to the left of the gauge cluster, if you look at the top of the dashboard. Also I know this is a hybrid but I had to say it; CVT.
Man... what the hell is going on with Lexus’s creativity? The front looks like someone is teeth is pulled forward with no bottom jaw. Don’t let me talk about the interior 🤦🏻♂️
I will forever hate that startup chime. Why does starting a Lexus sound the same as starting a Toyota from 2005. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t so grating.
It's no sports car and the interior looks rather dated but it's a car that was just made to take you from point A go point B and it's a slow car so it would be stupid to try to speed up and drive like it's s sports car or something.

Drove one of these 1 time as a courtesy car from my friend's local Lexus dealer when his car is in service. This car for me is just undrivable. NO power at all, awful handling, outdated interior, and not cheap. Just normal acceleration and the needle displayed it's using the full power. Feeling lack of power towards freeway speed at 85 mph, let alone passing someone 80mph+. Some advice, get urself a q5 55e or x3phev for just a little bit more money, but a much better car. It also qualifies for a few thousand tax credit, which might actually be even cheaper than this nx300h.

I love how you’re positive about cars and don’t nitpick every imperfection like most reviewers
Keep the Hybrids coming. I would not be too surprised if the next generation of NX is All-Hybrid just like the new Venza.
rumours are its gonna get a plug in like the Prime, so like 300 hp ON A HYBRID! crazy
The reason I love Lexus IS because they are literally as reliable as Toyota and would last for years and years to come
But they are outdated, slow, terrible infotainment, not as good to drive as rivals and everything about them is average (except reliability)
That front end lol Looks like a skull with the "Missing" lower jaw.
My father made the exact same comment about the front after seeing it lol.

Front end looks great with the FSport grill. But this grill is ugly
@@richzilla08 Sounds like us older guys know a thing or two, huh? lol
I think just because of the Lexus last gen tech and interior, I'd go for an Acura RDX

Really nice interior. Only thing is and although not the same power, I prefer Subaru boxer engine sound with CVT.

Which do you prefer more, this or the BMW X3? I always found the centre console of the NX to be extremely distracting.

It's not as refined as an IS with same drivetrain. IS enginesounds are very muffled, in NX they are much more audible.
