Never had an issue with my ComeUp Seal Gen 2 winch. Crazy seeing the aftermath in Moab. Was there earlier in the year and it breaks my heart to see all those businesses and homes devasted by those flash floods.
Great campsite overlooking Castle Valley. Had lunch sitting on that rock in April. Winch trouble: I recall that Venture4WD had a come up, it didn't last. He had to hit it with a hammer to get it to work.
I had to end up cancelling my camping reservation on The White rim Trail last year because of storms and flash floods. Still went to Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point state park that day in the rain to check out the sites in the rain, as many others did 😂. Thankfully the next day I was able to get back onto the trails.
I use X-bull 13k. My job is pulling people out of the sand and ocean daily. Easily a thousand cycles of the winch yearly. Motorhomes, box trucks, Hyundai's. You name it. Been through 3 winches in 8 years
Warn Zeon 10k platinum is the only way to go. 100% made in-house here in the USA. We regularly have winchfests for hours on end in deep, deep snow in the middle of nowhere and Warn is the only winch I would trust my life on.
Great video. Wow amazing scenery. I enjoy most of your stories. I’m planing a 6 day Utah trip for a next April to find that epic site. Thanks for you doing what you do. Happy trails.
I learned a lesson in kinetics, inertia, weight and momentum in the midst of building a cage and pullout for my Wrangler. Traveling along on I95 about 40 mph, was hit from behind by a very expensive Mercedes ( she lost). My pullout with its slider locked in place and a locked rear gate, busted through all locking mechanisms and destroyed the slides and gate hinges. I felt a little bad because of the damage she would receive from her insurance company for my vehicle her Mercedes front end was DESTROYED.
Not a winch but have you seen the yankum ropes winch line and fairlead? Forgot what it's called but no metal hook on the end should you have to be in the line of fire again
No, sorry. That campsite wasn't quite epic enough, you'll have to go back and try again... ok, kidding. That was an incredible view! A little nerve wracking right at the cliff edge but Amazing!
In our club 75% run warn and 90% of winch failures are non-warn. Unfortunately I’m pretty sure that warn is the only one that still makes winches in the US and that is only certain lines now. Never seen anything unexpectedly fail on a 8274 or M8000 besides an electric solenoid
@@OverlandBound Okay. Keep it and rebuild it like you did with your Toyota. Just like the Toyota, Warn winches are mechanical and need to be maintained and even rebuilt from time to time. Scratch that, just realized you said it was the 8K model.... you really should get a winch with a higher load rating with all that heavy junk on your Toyota.
I have really enjoyed this adventure and wish it would never end. Michael I done research on winches forever and every single hardcore off road recovery company is using Badland Winches. I got one on my rig never had a single issue. Keep the footage rolling i waiting Patiently 🧐😁
Plus up for the badlands. But. I'm real curious about what went wrong on the winches. 1 dying on you I can believe, but 2 going bad at same time? Have you had anyone look at the 2 of them. Maybe give a update in case others have the issue also?
Great video I have been a warn guy for years always ran them only had one problem with a solenoid once. I wouldn’t trade my bfg tire if I got a flat be interested to see what the problem where . Thanks
Hi Michael. love your videos, content, your sincereness. Any help you can give on how to arrive at camp at 14:00 would be GREATLY appreciated. Please..??
Hey Mikey! I liked the video a lot! Rescuing your fellow Overlanders, etc. With the crew. A new winch, eh? Would consider a "WARN 12S or 14S? Depending on your winch mounting points. My "Warn 10S" Zero issues. Cheers, Mate.
Super Winch my 16.5 was bought for 1200 and delivered for a hundred more 90 ft - 7/16 cable ,must follow mount instructions nothing less than 9/16 steel for mounting to truck frames, subframe a must !!!!!No tissue paper frames ! My truck frame is a double rail1/2" so that means it's one inch thick ,and 8 " x 3 " channel 22' long with 46" tires ,14k empty.Out of box service gear reduction unit little or NO grease in gear unit one pound tub of lucus lube red about 2/3 of tub , all winches come with very little or no grease in reduction unit ....
Accidentally made a comment on a 5yr old video lol. Any chance you could catch up with the hemi commander rig? I know it's not a popular rig but I'm curious of his hemi swap
Another great vid, not sure where your redarc bcdc charger is mounted but it’s recommended they go on a bracket in front of the radiator not in the engine bay as the temps get too hot and as a safety precaution they stop charging when over 80 degrees C 👍🏼
You guys can make fun all you want, but my Smittybilt has 6 years on it and has pulled me up some really steep grades, through deep mud, and pulled more than a few trees outta the ground (intentionally).
Nah - making fun is not something I enjoy :) Well the winches we had were both "high quality" units, and both failed. I'm going to look into Mile Marker.
@@OverlandBound I had a Mile Marker Hydraulic, HI10500, pulls a little slow but could pull for days without draining the battery (as long as the engine is running). Never had a problem with it. Just have to pick out the right adapter kit (35-5020-41 - ADAPTER KIT - TOYOTA) to make the connection with the power steering pump.
I thought you already had a Warn winch. If it’s not working properly why not fix it? I’ve had budget & Warn no issues with either. Likely it’s solenoid related. I had the same issue & actually used ones from Amazon. I made a video of it. Hit my profile, it’s the first video. Best wishes
Nothing like nature’s fury to bring us out of ourselves and into brotherhood and purpose.💪🏻🇺🇸
If everything went as planned and there were no issues, there would be no adventure! Adventure is Necessary!
Well you said you were looking for an epic view camping spot I'd say mission accomplished
Awesome video! What an epic camp spot!!!
Can’t wait until the next one. So many bad turn of events, but there was a light at the end. That amazing EPIC CAMP
It was such an amazing day! It felt like 3
Stunning - nice
Never had an issue with the three Warns I’ve had in 30 years. But I keep them covered and service the cable often.
a great journey, and even a greater team. That takes it up a notch.
Thank you!

That scene at 14:00 was a McKenna's Gold moment. Fantastic.
Ah thank you - that's a good reference.

Michael it is ok to have a bunch of issues and all your friends laughing at you as long as the bottle opener works!!
Right? Flawless.
Wow!!! Amazing scenery!!! 13:56
When the winch goes click, click, click, when locked and spooling out, apply outwards tension on the rope.
We were just at that camp spot in the LA Sal Mtns on Wednesday! Epic camp spot!! Back in Canada now😪

I personally have never had an issue with Mile Marker winches. I have had three over the years.
Good to know!

How do you pass a CA smog check with the LRA tank? I may be moving to CA and my 80 has a LRA tank installed too.
I just passed. No tricks that I know of.
@@OverlandBound Thats great news! Ive been worried that I would eventually have to sell my rig because of the tank.

Oh, we will be! :) haha
