Amazing editing work here, brother. Nice serious overview mixed in with some humour (I laughed every time "Payne" was said, you played the sound clips of enemies saying his name). Max Payne 1 and 2 were basically my favourite games growing up.

    You summed it up perfectly.
For me, this is a textbook example of a videogame when everything is put into the right place. I could be so effortlessly immersed into its story while enjoying what I could do within its universe. It actually feels like a playable movie. It tugs your emotions along with how the protagonist dwells into his journey.
Even as a kid, I could appreciate so many things the developer did for this game. Bit of a stupid story, I couldn't stand shooting game and thought this game was too gruesome (to be fair, I should not have been allowed to play this game, since I was like only 5, lol). But when I saw Alex's death, just as Max met him (for what felt like idk, 5 seconds?) and imagining how all of Max's effort to meet him in the station went into thin air in an instant, I bawled my eyes. I mean the guy just couldn't catch a break, he just lost his whole family and now it was his best friend's life taken right in front of his eyes. Not to mention from that point, he was also falsely accused for his death. That was the point that made me wanted to push through, just to see how Max's story would end. From there on, I fell in love with the game and even made its main theme song a ringtone on my phone at some point.
Now I'm on my 30s, I replayed it once more just to experience things differently and it still as awesome as when I played it for the first time (save from the game obvious aging). The thug's one liner, their death scream, the bullet time sound FX, the graphic novel dialogue, the helicopter explosion sound, the oh so awesome BGM, everything was ingrained into my memory without me realizing it and made me smile when I hear them once again.
I'm never good with words, so I apologize if reading my comment feels like a trainwreck, especially since it's 4AM, but I just can't help but to get excited when someone mention this particular game.
It goes without saying, but I love how you are able to breakdown and explain what makes this game as intriguing as it is. So thank you for the entertaining video and obviously, I can't wait to see what you cover on next!

Brother you are great with words, I experienced the same feelings when I was a kid and honestly I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the man. Then Max Payne 2 came out and he dived into another brutal journey, he is the definition of a man who has lost everyone and everything. Somehow it feels so easy to sympathise with him. You are absolutely correct. I enjoyed reading your comment and I’m glad that you liked the video.

It is one of the greatest games ever made. The story, the atmosphere, the gameplay and the music.😊

Games are so lame nowadays, you know that you are safe and don't need any thinking to go through the missions... just shoot with whatever you have or whatever you like and you'll get there!

Maybe it doesn't need a remake but it needs a remaster with all patches integrated

Maybe, I personally think the game is just fine as it is , but a lot of people have not played the game just because it looks old or feels old, and the problem is that a remake won’t encourage them to play the original, idk what to say.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm a big payne fan but the 1st one is so crusty now. A remake with better mechanics like 3's gameplay + shootdodge would be great with some better level design.

    • @visionsoftritonian1970

True, a remake would be great of course but I personally think we should always remember where it all started.

1's gameplay needs 2's refinement, just with a nerf to the bullet time, and if Remedy want to combine the two in a remake I can get onboard with that since I still have the original games to come back to. I really hate how stiff 1 feels in comparison to the sequel, and the bullshit positioning of certain mobsters that simply one shot you, thus making you savescum and spam that reload button every time they get you. Revisiting them could be beneficial in the way the Dead Space remake and RE 2/3/4 remakes were, and more attention to the titles that made Remedy and set foundations for their other IPs would be welcome. But in terms of writing and overall presentation, for the most part, MP 1 and TFoMP aged really well and I replay them every few years or so, and the sequel remains as one of my favorite games of all time.

True, modern engines are of course more than capable of fixing the problems with the game play, however, I think it is important to consider that it is a 23 year old game and even in comparison to the AAA titles of that time, it’s just remarkable. The problem with the remakes is that the original will soon be forgotten.

@@visionsoftritonian1970 That's a legitimate concern, a good example of that is how the DeS remake will replace the original in the mind of the many people whose first and only familiarity with that game was the remake, however since Remedy is in charge of it, much like they were with the Alan Wake remaster, I think it's a good move on their part to bring back the attention to the games that laid their creative foundations, especially for Sam Lake as a writer, and if there's a chance of it being on par with the best of remakes that I've mentioned in my initial comment, then I'm all in. Since the older games are getting harder to preserve and the industry still hasn't found a good solution for this problem, perhaps Remedy will include the original games in the package so you can choose which one you want to play should the remake not be to your liking. That way, even if the remake either changes too much or is good but people still want to play the original games, they can, and people who are new to the IP can enjoy the graphical and gameplay improvements when first experiencing Max Payne.
