It's so nice to be able to look back and see everyone then. All of these people, including yourself, have had a profound influence on the joy I now experience while on trail. Thank you John \O/
I am much older than any of these people you interviewed. I backpacked for decades with a heavy pack because that is what I had. I now hike with a very light UL setup and love it. I think chasing stuff is a bad path. I wish I knew this fifty years ago. That all said I raised some great kids and I have couple nice homes, some great friends, a nest egg and best of all my health. I am pulling bigger miles now than I did thirty years ago. All because of my health and very small pack.
I love how the ultralight mindset and minimalism started with my backpacking and once I became content with less I’ve applied it to my other areas in my life.
Nature led me to backpacking, backpacking led me to ultralight backpacking, ultralight backpacking led me to minimalism and from there my life changed ❤❤
Yes! After a 9 month minimalist backpacking trip I got back home and saw all my stuff and wondered 'What is it really all for? I was perfectly happy with my single pot, a soda can meths stove and a spork for my kitchen for the last 9 months!' I wanted to prepare my evening meal with the same 'kitchen' that evening.
Bottom line, like Jupiter mentioned BURDENS. Seems to be the reoccurring thread. I had seen and followed almost all of those hikers. Many I still follow. gogdamn, I have learned so much. Thanks John Z.
First, I want to express my appreciation for your excellence on social media platforms. Not only is your content and personal style captivating, but it resonates widely with your fans. Enjoy yourself now. Freedom. Then you get older and can’t hike. Get hurt. But I do agree about simplifying even when you are older. I have all this “stuff”!Do we need it “All”? Because society pushes this?
Minimalism? One carries a 4lb 20° sleeping-bag, the other carries a 2lb 20° sleeping-bag - both equally "minimalist," since each carries the same functionality? Freedom? Maybe; both are pretty 'free' though. Burden? Definitely; every gram is a burden. Less grams equal less burden.
We need a full feature length documentary on Courier.
Beautiful! “I guess you need a lot less to be happy” Words of wisdom Jupiter! I couldn’t agree more.

Suuupppeer coool seeing red beard, his channel was the first that got me into hiking.

Tears in my eyes of joy
Never stop trying to see it all Jupiter!
2017 was one of the best years of my Life!
Glad to hear it! And mine too. And guess why? Because 9 months of it was spent lightweight backpacking.

The age of innocence.... trail life
2:52 this really strikes a nerve. I am a professional with all sorts of obligations and expectations and it is hard to truly feel free.
this is so beautiful!
ultralight is all about comfort of body, heavy packs destroy joints and body, so it is more requirenment for long hikes
What's the music in the intro? It's made by you isn't it? Thanks!
❤ very inspiring!
Yeah boyyyyyy
Thanx John
oh damn.. this was sweet and makes you think about life. ;)
Blast from the past with red beard. Seemed to just of disappeared.
I need a year off to just explore nature.

I miss Cotezi's youtube presence.
She comes around now and then. But I agree. Missed, wish could see more. Optimistic Turtle also
Yeah I miss Cotizi's channel too. Her content was so peaceful, relaxed, chilled and full of the sweet contentment of a happy backpacker.
YES
Hi John, this is Ruby from FLEXTAIL. May I ask would you like to test the world's smallest pump for your sleeping pads?
This comment is hilarious.
Good stuff!
I saw 2 taps aka Justin at 0:13!
👍🐿👍
Sure, but what about the economy, John?
The ultralighter mindset for PCT 2023. Nah...I'll pass.
