    Thank you for also showing that keeping otters isn't always all sunshine and happiness. I think it's important that people realize that and take some time to think about it, before getting a pet.

      Absolutely agree. It's a commitment. Our emotions tell us oh how cute they are but it doesn't stop there. Our minds have to tell us , are we willing and able to care for them? Children, cats, dogs etc.😊 They are the cutest 😇

    • @ooohlaa13
      @ooohlaa13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@donnafoley9684 yes just the laundry alone with all their bedding, and cleaning up after their eating and messing with food etc.To say nothing of cleaning their eyes and ears and feet and teeth, and clipping nails and brushing fur ... its a devotional commitment few people have. I have heard people say well they are just a dog, or a cat ... if they were out in the wild, they would not have all these civilized perks, but truly they would have other compensatory instinct behaviors awakened that would serve them. This is a very unique situation, they get so much attention many human children never get.

    I love seeing these videos of Kotaro and Hana! And I’m so impressed by how gentle and kind you are with them - you meet them on their level, allowing for their natural habits and foibles. Couple of questions I have: do you ever worry about their biting you? Their teeth look sharp! And, secondly, how do you manage water containment/cleanup when they get “boisterous” in the shower/tub/and play tubs? When I watch the water overflow, my first reaction is “oh dear!” Thank you for allowing us to see these two beautiful otters and learn about their habits and what you must do as an “otter parent” to keep them healthy and happy. You do such a wonderful job!

    Any person that loves💖 and cares for their pets will take the time to ensure they are properly fed & groomed. That their sleeping areas are dry and clean, and when they do have an accident you don’t get mad at them, you just clean it up and make sure they are ok. This is what it means to be a great pet parent. It’s obvious that Hana & Kotaro’s Mom and Dad love and care for them very, very well. Thanks for sharing more information about these beautiful otters! I love, love, love this video because it's so informative and not any less cute than usually. But that's because otters are, of course, adorable. And I'm so glad that you confirmed my assumption that Kotaro and Hana have nearly no odour at all because you let them bathe and bath regularly. It was the same with my dogs. I didn't shampoo them more than once a month at most - or if they smelled like duck pond or sheep poo from bathing in it. However, I can't count the times others complained about their dogs smelling strongly. That's why I thought that with you being as clean, neat and tidy as you are (I hope it's not a negative thing if I assume some cultural influence there besides personal choice?), and the two darlings going for a swim so many times a day, they probably don't smell much; although being mustelids, they are prone to do so quickly if not kept very clean.
    Hana's ribbon collection is awesome. She's such a girl girl!

    I do miss them when there're no new uploads - understandable, though, as editing videos is a time-consuming task. Kotaro and Hana are living the best life they could have: a comfortable house, plenty of space to run free, nutritious food, a loving human family and so much more 🐾🐾 ☀️

      If you compare Kotsumet’s channel (Kotaro and Hana) with other otter channels (even among the other Big Four Otter Channel) it’s very understandable. You know that Kotsumet takes a lot of time and effort and he and his wife work very hard on the channel to give us the very best videos in terms of quality and substance, unlike some big otter channels such as ma ko (Sakura). What I love most about this channel is the fact that not only it delivers super quality videos with great content and substance but Mom and Dad loves their babies so much and it seems like they really enjoy making and sharing with us these videos even though it’s very time consuming and takes a lot of work.

I don’t mean to be critical but more as a piece of advice to satisfy regular viewers. ❤️❤️

Id hate for ppl to go out getting an otter thinking it's all sunshine and cuteness and then an otter going to a bad home who can't handle it. And it's not like they'd be easy to rehome as they are wild animals and require certain permits and certain housing. You should definitely make it a video series! It would definitely get lots of views. It'd attract ppl who just wanna learn, and others who want to get otters. I would add certain phrases in the description and tags tho with it in question form, so it'll be easier to locate for ppl who are searching. Instead of looking in a sea of videos and hoping to find one. I know if I search "how to care for pet otter" this video won't show up. Just those other wild life ones.

    Glad to know these things. I’ve always been curious about their smell. So if i were to get an otter, i would pick a male. I’ve been a fan of Kotaro even before Hana became part of the family. Kotaro is a smart otter. He makes facial expression and mostly curious about everything. The owners are doing excellent job at taking care of them.

      Otters are very social animals and keeping just one by itself would make them lonely and sad. I don't know if keeping two males might make them fight and injure each other though (some exotic species are like this, I'm not sure about otters). Make sure you do plenty of research before adopting any animals because once you get them, they are your responsibility for life, and that means giving them a good life that is worth living 🥰

    Just adopted a male otter named lele, he’s 3 months old and yea kotaro and hana’s owner were completely correct regarding how to take care an otter smell.. our otter bath every morning and we always give him a baby hair lotion after bath, and yea my otter doesn’t even smelly at all, he do has scent, but its a good one, its not a bad smell just like the first time i met him..
    So It depends how you take care of them..

      I hope you have another animal to spend time with your otter, otherwise it's gonna be sad and anxious. Otters are social animals; they're not supposed to be alone with only humans (that's one reason why most otter owners have at least 2 of them). Also baby lotion might not be very good for your otter. It's an animal, they lick themselves a lot more than a human baby would.

    • @Soufriere84
      @Soufriere84 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Minor Correction: Skunks aren't mustelids. I thought they were too and they _used_ to be classified that way but DNA tests said no they're in their own Family. Mustelids = Weasels, Otters, Ferrets, Minxes, Stoats, etc.

      @@Soufriere84 Oh interesting. Thanks for the heads up

    • @Keldor314
      @Keldor314 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Skunks are still closely related to mustelids, though. I think the problem arose when DNA testing showed that raccoons are very slightly closer to true mustelids than skunks, and so it was either put the raccoon family in with the mustelids, or promote the skunks to their own family. Red pandas are also mixed up in there, though probably slightly more distant from the other 3 groups. Note that giant pandas are NOT particularly closely related to red pandas, but are in the bear family.
      These four families (mustelids, raccoons, skunks, and the lonely red panda) are considered to make up a single superfamily, musteloidia, so if skunks aren't true mustelids, it would still be correct to call them musteloids.
      Don't forget to throw in the badgers and the wolverine into the mustelid family! Keep mongooses and meerkats well away, though, since they're clear on the far side of the carnivoran order, most closely related to hyenas.

    Otters seem to be like larger parrots in that keeping them is a lifestyle. They are happiest and cleanest when allowed to do their natural behaviors. They are smart and need lots of mental stimulation. Parents need to stay vigilant on their care as they need lots of attention and cleaning. I think they are not good pets for most people, but are very rewarding pets for the right people. I love these types of videos! I have kept other mustelids like Ferrets (which do have a smell even if you are good at cleaning). It is interesting how otters are different.
