That bass player plays with the kind of groove that can't be taught and can't be learned, you either got it or you don't. Their chemistry as musicians isn't reproducible either. So awesome
While well intentioned, your comment glosses over the THOUSANDS of hours of focused practice she's put in. It absolutely can be taught and learned. In fact, it's as much about listening as it is about playing.
@@rbrianharris While well-intentioned, your comment glosses over the fact that it's one of those "necessary but not sufficient" things. Millions of people could practice and study forever and still not have the chops to do what she does. Yep, talent. Yep, practice. Yep, intangibles. Nope, practice alone isn't enough. But it sure is necessary, and she has absolutely put in the time and effort!
Bridget Kearney is a great songwriter, too. These folks have years and years of practice, though, not just talent. Talent is overrated; ask Charlie Parker.
Agreed. They have been on late night shows several times, and even The Ellen Show, but overall, I think they are still under the radar as well. I've never heard them on mainstream radio.
Amazing. Not my usual go-to, I'm old school rock, but Rachel and the gang are incredibly talented. I've been binge-listening to them since I discovered them. Every day. Thank you, Lake Street Dive.
I agree, Jon. I've commented on several of their videos that they need to bring her up in the mix - you can't really hear her on much of their material. Not in this case - she's up there real nice, laying down that sheet of smooth ice for the stars to skate over the top of - sort of a human Zamboni.
If I could sign up to make that unbelievable lady happy every day for the rest of her life I would. No regrets . No second thoughts. She may be the eighth wonder of the world.
I agree Brother...there is very much something about her............................................................................................................
This may be the most perfect single-mike-four-performer recording I have have ever heard. Each and every note/voice is perfectly articulated and understandable. I have bookmarked this and will come back again and again to experience a bordering-on-perfect performance from everyone involved - yes the musicians, but everyone else involved. High praise. And thank you.
When a solo trumpet player can carry the lead of an acoustic performance with spot-on dynamics, well that’s pretty remarkable. This and the cover of Take On Me just really highlight that dude’s talent.
The fullness of their sound is remarkable!! Tambourine, trumpet, stand up bass and vocals - it's subtle but it is a BIG sound! Each member has MAJOR chops and talent beyond belief....so glad to see that they have been receiving more attention lately.
I'm a late comer to the appreciation of Lake Street Dive but glad I finally wandered here, very glad. I cannot help but wonder about those who gave this a thumb's down and whether they've ever had any musical joy in their hearts made of cinder.....
Total band domination Vocals - Goddess Level BV's - assassins of soul Trumpet - So on point Tambourine - Exceptional display of percussive Nuanced mastery That fucking bass though ... O to the fucking MG
They do so much with so little....such incredible talent by everyone! Kudos to XPN....miss listening to you guys when I used to live in S. Jersey in the 1990s.
I've watched this video many, many times. It's pretty clear to me that music simply doesn't get better than this. And it isn't just about Rachel; every member of the band is simply outstanding and exceptional.
All of them..Everyone here is individually phenomenal! I have to listen to every song 10 times to appreciate each artists contributions a song. Then altogether. Woa!
Came to this by chance via Lola- love the whole arrangement, the trumpet is the icing on the cake, I can feel myself in a basement club, the air thick with smoke, sweat and the glow of gaslights.
Bridget Kearney- she's one of the best bass players in the world right now. Go seek out their live version of Henriette from Pickathon - it's a couple years old but it gives you a sense of her ability. She also has a solo album she put out this year - with a very 80's pop vibe to it. It's a fun record!
What a great voice Rachel possess. Ive been a huge fan of this talented band for 10 years easily. Annie Lennox would be proud of your rendition of Broken Glass. Way to go guys!
The only "covers" that can outshine the originals. Sad (or happy) to say I'd rather hear LSD do it. Let me be real, not at all sad, I'm always happy to hear LSD's version.
My wife and I have attended 3 Natalie concerts over many years. She is amazing. Loved her with 10,000 Maniacs. She was a breakout star way back then. Her star will never fade.
Does anyone else remember what a revelation it was when Annie Lennox showed a whole newly personal way to convey deep emotion in pop singing? I felt the same way when I discovered Rachael (years ago now).
Thankful for Prairie Home Companion and all the wonderful performers to whom they open their stage. This piece is marvelous in a number of ways. 👍 Just don't know how to express my 💛 for this....
I'm a pretty old listener of music. Born in the 40s and still grooving on anything new and great out there. Well, this group is new to me AND great. Everyone, turn your friends on to them so they don't disappear as cover bands are prone to do. I cannot say enough about their sound and musical abilities, so let me close by saying the lead singer is simply lovely and as talented as you will ever hear. Im in Atlanta so please book a small venue near me and I will be sitting right up front!
I have been a huge fan of LSD since the first time I heard them. They are a breath of fresh air in the musical wasteland that has been created by the recording industry. I wish these talented young people the utmost of success.
Very talented group!!! Lead singer has a beautiful tone to her voice....harmonies rule!! lead guitarist and trumpet so versatile and great punctual notes ....Bass fiddle has a great touch!
Wow! This cover--Yes, puhleeez! :) That vocal is superb---and upright bass---uh huh! But the whole thing swings! A friend turned me on to this---yeah--I gotta remember to thank him!

Her voice is amazing!! And that bass player!! 😳
I go back to this these "older creations" many times every week. Yes, creations is the right word. Just fantastic!
I can’t remember being that impressed with a bass player in a long time.
Agreed, but check out Linda May Han Oh, who plays and records with Pat Metheny. Just as impressive in a somewhat different field.
check out joe dart

Lake Street Dive has crushed it again with this one! ❤
A trumpet , a bass , a tambourine and the utterly remarkable voice of Rachel Price ! Pure Bliss !!
This is exactly why I watch more TH-cam music these days than most other media. Lake Street Dive is 🎶 ! ! !
Awestruck. Total Annie Lennox fan here and I'm jumping updown in joy w this group - love it! Thank you ❤
Discovered these guys two days ago. They are immense. The singer is next level and the rest of the band are amazing.
I cannot over emphasize how much I love this band. The talent is evident in every song, original or cover. I'm in awe every time.
Only had the grand pleasure of seeing this mighty quartet live once, on a cool June night on a mountaintop. One of my top 3 shows.
@@brucec8793 for me, LSD and Nathaniel Rateliff are on the top of my list for live shows. Hopefully once the pandemic is over...

Something about watching them just makes me smile! So refreshing to me at least.
Grateful today for Lake Street Dive!

That bass player is incredible
Im telling you the Bass player is incredibly talented
You don't have tell us.
Ya think?!
You got that right! Not only is she a bassist that any band (jazz, pop, or rock) would kill to have, but also she is a gifted songwriter.
She's a friggin' monster on that thang. I can think of any number of incredible bassists who'd just love to groove with her.
Love these guys! Makes me feel rite.

Total band domination

BV's - assassins of soul
Trumpet - So on point
Tambourine - Exceptional display of percussive Nuanced mastery
That fucking bass though ... O to the fucking MG
Bridget's bassline in the chorus against McDuck's trumpet, with Rachael and Calabrese's harmonizing.....makes this song so hip!!
The little trumpet line in the chorus is really nice - it's jolly and sad at the same time.
Holy crap, this is amazing, what a voice and sound. Its spine tingling
They do so much with so little....such incredible talent by everyone! Kudos to XPN....miss listening to you guys when I used to live in S. Jersey in the 1990s.

This is truly an amazing band. The sound is so full and rich, you're not missing anything even when half of the band isn't playing at all.
Incredibly well arranged and performed - a unique, spare but full and original quartet.
All of you are soooooo.... talented. it is fun to watch you, and I am sure live is the best way!
Super impressed with their skills, spent many years in bands and never found fellow musicians that could pick up each others grooves

You were the sweetest thing that I ever knew
But I don't care for sugar honey if I can't have you
Since you abandoned me
My whole life has crashed
Won't you pick the pieces up
'Cause it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass
Walking on walking on broken glass
Walking on walking on broken glass
The sun's still shining in the big blue sky
But it don't mean nothing to me
Oh let the rain come down
Let the wind blow through me
I'm living in an empty room
With all the windows smashed
And I've got so little left to lose
That it feels just like I'm walking on broken glass
Walking on walking on broken glass
Walking on walking on broken glass
And if you're trying to cut me down
You know that I might bleed
'Cause if you gonna try to cut me down
I know that you'll succeed
And if you want to hurt me
Well there's nothing left to fear
And if you want to hurt me
You're doing really well my dear
Now everyone of us was made to suffer
Everyone was made to weep
We've been hurting one another
And now the pain has cut too deep
So take me from the wreckage
Save me from the blast
Lift me up and take me back
Don't let me keep on walking
(Don't let me keep on walking)
I can't keep on walking on (keep on walking on)
Walking on walking on broken glass
Can't keep on walking on walking on broken glass
Don't let me keep on walking
Don't let me keep on walking
Don't let me keep on, keep on walking...
Don't let me keep on walking
Don't let me keep on, keep on walking...
Don't keep me walking on walking on broken glass
Gracias
THANK GOD THEY MADE THIS COVER THEIR OWN. its truly unique A+
WHY CAN I ONLY LIKE THIS ONCE!!! Sorry, inside voice, I know.
Thank you for sending me here!
The upright bassist is stunning, both playing and vocals! Makes me feel small playing my regular bass...ENCORE!
Ever consider that this is a regular bass....and your electric bass is non-regular bass?
Love you guys! Everyone of you!
Love the trumpet. Oh yeah, and the bass. And the percussion. Not forgetting that voice.
I just started listening to this band .great band very pretty singer .
Yes! I've been listening for a few years off and on, always great!
The bass player? They're all incredibly talented. Rachel Price's voice is flawless!

I love this group! I do have to say that the hand gestures while performing reminds me of Mac and his karate on Always Sunny.
She is like if Lily Tomlin and Amy Winehouse had an amazingly talented baby. I love her so much. A+++++ singer.
Original, refreshing great artists here. Thanks!
Love this song! Amazing rendition!! 👏👏👏🥳
