I made a couple of errors during this chat, the worst of which was referring to the 2020 election as “2000.” Still, I think you’ll enjoy!

I understand Matt's claim that he wants to help the Republicans rebuild themselves as a justification for not voting for Harris. I would argue that Matt has taken the worst of both worlds: (i) he will just never be trusted again by any Republican because he ever criticized the MAGA king, and (ii) he (and other members of the conservative intelligentsia) is signaling to Republicans "you can literally do anything like support a fascist, and you will never lose my votes to the Democrats", which leads to Republicans never feeling that there is a significant cost to going full MAGA

      Not very enlightening.
Evil, insane and stupid. 😅 Evangelicals have overtaken Reputation party. I wouldn't call that a spiritual problem. They are magical thinkers and End-Timers. That will always be problematic.

Josh Shapiro would have been fine, but Walz is better. The party of elites didn't need another Lawyer/DA/coastal elite on the ticket vs. Trump/Vance.

23:40 Never Trump defines itself in both its title and its haughtiness. If you’re Never Trump your vote is guaranteed not to go for Trump.
You should require absolutely no “wooing”.

I think there are many people that care about the Never Trumpers. I think the politicians are making a mistake not considering the importance of that group because I believe they are the true core of the population. As a Democrat they are the only group that has earned my respect sufficiently to re-evaluate my own views and consider their conservative views.

This is getting really tiresome. Walz's 24 yrs in the National Guard could be "dangerously sketchy"? Blocking this 👋

I truly appreciate your balanced approach to interviewing and openness to center left views. I also believe there is room for never Trumper’s in the Democratic Party and people do care about them and their feelings.

are all these pundits are going to contine to ignore the report that Shapiro himself had qualms about taking the role. the VP role is ambiguous and 100% number 2 spot, and he may have seem that as not a good fit. but I guess it is easier to justify it as Harris "caved"

    • @vmarshfire
      @vmarshfire 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You know, that is probably a huge part of it… who really wanted to be her VP???? Of course they didn’t mind the publicity and attention for 2028, but did they really want to be on a ticket with Harris as VP. Good point.

My plausible worst case scenario for Trump 2.0 includes: the lawless rounding up of alleged illegals into "camps," pardoning of all J6ers and other pro-Trump violent offenders, physical attacks on opposition figures, Orbanization of non-governmental institutions like media and education, Russian victory in Ukraine, breakdown of NATO, Trump lets China take Taiwan... and more.

My worst case scenario is actually the opposite. Kamala Harris openly laughed at Joe Biden at the 2020 DNC debate when he suggested that there were constitutional limits on what a president can do. She is far more dangerous than Trump precisely BECAUSE she would be perfectly willing to put Trump voters into camps and no one would stop her! The press hates Trump and will watch him like a hawk, but the press will let Harris get away with anything--including repealing the first and second amendment in the name of "security"--you name it. She'll get away with it.

  • @sharonhearne5014

If Biden “was not up for the job” what in the heck do you believe Trump is ‘up for’ because Trump would, because of his age, automatically fit into that same senility box? One part of “the pick” would be the chemistry between Kamala and Tim which may not have been there between her and Shapiro. Two points also - Harris is mixed race and Shapiro is Jewish so that’s a heavy dose election-wise for a nation who has never elected a woman or a Jew for President.

I just don’t get it. The presidency encompasses a lot more than just the character or personality of the president himself, namely, judicial appointments. As a conservative, I would much prefer Trump appointments over Harris appointments. Thomas is going to have to retire here at some point.

Matt is pretty dismissive of MAGA commentators when he just marks them off as "evil" or something. He doesnt seem to even WANT to engage with any Right Wing thought that goes beyond Ronald Reagan and the National Review crowd. But as Twitter becomes more and more where the discourse happens, he will have to engage with the Online Right to remain in any way relevant.

    • @WorldwideWyatt

So nice to see some still permanently barred are still out there. I felt exactly the same… Hopeful for Harris and excited to see if she would pick Shapiro or Kelly…. Then I was let down and realized both Harris and Trump are leaning into their base….sad that no one knows how to come to the middle anymore. I’ll stay focused down ballot… Here is to hoping for 2028!
