They really are a class act. Saw them sing this earlier this year at Cliffs Pavilion Southend, with Paul Burgess and Iain Hornal. One of the best concerts I have ever been to.
Just saw this in Watford. Really took me by surprise, such an amazing take on this song though. One of the best moments of what is definitely the best gig I've ever seen.
No offense to the first incarnation of 10cc (Godley, Gouldman, Stewart, Creme) or the second incarnation of 10cc (Stewart, Gouldman), but I love this third incarnation of 10cc and this track in particular!
Some say it wasn't 10cc anymore after Godley and Creme left. Some say it wasn't 10CC anymore after Stewart left. But they left and were replaced and all three seem quite happy to allow Gouldman to continue the band as the only original member. Two of the other current members, Rick Fenn and Paul Burgess are hardly newcomers btw. They replaced Godley and Creme and both played on "Bloody Tourists", "Look Hear?" and "Ten Out of 10". Burgess was also the drummer on "Deceptive Bends" and Fenn was a member of the band when they recorded "Windows in the Jungle"- It's not as if it's the only band that has gone through such changes in the lineup and it's appropriate in a way. Gouldman was always the least visible 10cc'er but he seem to ahve been the one who more than anybody else held it all together. He's also a fantastic songwriter of course and also an absolutely amazing and much underrated bass player. That being said, imagine this version with Godley's strong bass at the bottom and Creme's brilliant high pitched lead on top...
After all that you've said, this is still not 10cc. I think Graham Gouldman should have shown more respect for the other band members. This band is more of a 10cc cover band.
@@theorangepekoeteabagband4330 I think we should let them decide whether it's disrespectful or not. As far as I know Creme has never said or done anything in public about it. I understand Eric Sewart is not happy. But Godley certainly doesn't mind. He has made several guest appearances with the band, he helped design the stage set for their 2015 tour and of course, he joined Gouldman in studio for the GG/06 sessions in 2006. I too would have loved to hear the original 10cc lineup again and wish they had never spilt. Somebody said if you combined "L" and "Deceptive Bends" you'd have the perfect 10cc album and I absolutely agree with that. But that lineup was never going to last and I think it's better to appreciate what we do have than cry for what was never to be. And at least we finally get to see Gouldman play. One thing everybody (including he himself) has always overlooked, is that he's a bass player second to none, right up with Jack Bruce etc. The old live footage of 10cc always focus on the singer. Now we can finally get a glimpse of how he does it, even though I haven't seen him play any of his really advanced bass lines yet.
I suspect that Creme and Godley took the respectful path while Eric Stewart took the path of honesty. I wouldn't have been too impressed if it was me, but it's not so.... It was Graham Gouldman's Choice to make and I just happen to think he made the wrong choice in trying to wring the crap out of such a legendary band.

Yu have to first explicitly define that before you can decide that these were are were not 10cc. Personally, I'd say by any sensible metric - sound, band members, creative team, etc, these are NOT 10cc, but I can forgive Gouldman if he liked the sound and didn't want to give it up as member s drifted away.
I understand what you’re driving at but but you have to be tolerant of the work people put in. Music is a difficult element, songs live up, groups die people try to,produce something neither you nor me can give to the public.

The amount of times when the live version is better is very few. If you loved a famous painting, say "Melting clocks" then you go to a gallery and it's totally different, you don't expect to hear "Painting is difficult and you couldn't do it so try to be understanding." No, this is a totally different, butchered version of a beloved song. I hate it, and that is my right. But thanks for your point of view.

That was excruciating. Sad to see that stage when fantastic acts become parodies of themselves and turn into luvvies.
