I love this film. It's one of DC's oddest but greatest concepts. Batman just works so well as a ninja, and I love the anime designs of the other characters, especially the Joker.
@@xl081 The second half of the movie is the actual Killing Joke story. The first half is terrible and has Bruce and Barbara get together on a roof which was disgusting. Everyone agrees the first half is horrible especially in the context of Bruce getting with his friend’s daughter. All they had to do was a truncated Batgirl: Year One in the first half before the transition into The Killing Joke. The Joaquin Phoenix movie is better start to finish.

Yes!!! Been asking for this one, this is about to be a bizarre epic ride 🙌🏾 Anime fan here! This film was directed by Junpei Mizusaki and animated by Kamikaze Douga and YamatoWorks. Takashi Okazaki, the creator of Afro Samurai did the character designs. What’s really cool is this film was released in Japan theatrically and the the original Japanese script was rewritten. So there’s an American version and a Japanese version of the same film.
No wonder. Directors got no idea how to handle and make a proper ninja movie with Batman and his lore and opted for a cheap ass power ranger mech battle knock off.
Love that Megazord that the villains combined into. Also how they're all designed is based on Samurai during I want to say (if I remember correctly) Edo period in Japan. Joker was named Demon King after Nobunaga Oda (sorry to any if the name is misspelled)

BUT, In its American release, writers Leo Chu and Eric Garcia have admitted to rewriting the film from the original Japanese script written by Kazuki Nakashima, ultimately making two very different versions of the same film. meaning the USA dubbed version is actually different than the japanese subbed version. even though its the same film.

I like Roger Craig Smith’s Batman. He was Batman in the Batman Unlimited series and movies, Superman: Red Son, and Arkham Origins. Plus he was Captain America in MANY things, Sonic the Hedgehog, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil, Ezio from Assassin’s Creed, and more.

I do think the movie played out as intended, and this definitely isn't some half-baked video game that decided to be a movie at the last minute. The random humor and leaps of logic are VERY on brand for anime tropes. It's like DC saw how popular anime with the kids is, then say, "Okay, let give them the greenlight and tell them to go ham." And they did go ham.
I think you'd like JL vs the fatal five, cause Jessica Cruz and star boy are the focal points of the movie, Mr Terrific plays a role in the movie, and it's about mental health. Jessica Cruz famously suffers from crippling anxiety and Star Boy famously suffers from major mental health disease, and dealing with mental health plays a leading role. Having spent my career in pharmaceuticals focused more often than not with mental health specialists, maybe that's why i liked this one... Plus they go back in time and end up using the animation and voice actors from the old animated series. There's a real understandable and totally makes sense reason to include the legion of superheroes and they're time traveling technology too, which imo would be worth catching up on before watching the next movie in the tomorrow verse you haven't seen, legion of superheroes.

So good and wacky that when the live action stage shows of Batman Ninja was playing in Japan, I went twice to see it despite the ridiculously far too expensive ticket price they charged per sitting. Worth it.
As a longtime fan of Samurai Warriors, I really appreciate how each of the villains assumed the role of a real-life Japanese warlord so well: Joker as Oda Nobunaga, the Demon King/The Fool of Owari, the mighty warlord known for his absolute ruthlessness and his eccentricity. Harley Quinn as Ranmaru Mori, Nobunaga's fanatically loyal bodyguard, who was often mistaken for a girl due to his pretty looks. You can see the Mori Clan symbol on Harley's hammer. Gorilla Grodd as Toyotomi Hideoshi, "the Monkey", one of Nobunaga's smartest generals and his successor. Two-Face as Mitsuhide Akechi, the man who betrayed Nobunaga at Honnonji Temple. Penguin as Shingen Takeda, the Tiger of Kai. Shingen often read books on strategy by foreign officers (Penguin reads books like The Prince), and is often depicted wielding a fan as a weapon (Penguin uses umbrellas). Poison Ivy as Kenshin Uesugi, the Dragon of Echigo, who was such a pretty boy that he was also mistaken for a woman. Shingen's fierce rival, Kenshin was delusional enough to believe he was an avatar of the war god Bishamonten, the way Ivy believes she is an avatar of Mother Earth. Deathstroke as Date Masamune, the One-Eyed Deagon, who was often depicted wielding both swords and firearms in battle.
Man I love SpongeBob, I mean Tom Kenny as Penguin. Definitely Burgess Meredith vibes. You guys need to watch The Batman (2004-2008) series, also with its movie, The Batman vs. Dracula.

This movie feels like a silver age batman story, but Japanese and I love it. It ticks various boxes: bad guys have convoluted machine, hero gets sent to another realm, everything is colorful, and the heroes get strange silly new costumes and gadgets that will never be used or referenced again in future stories.
i LOVED this movie. a couple buddies and I were watching it together for the first time and one of them and I were CHEERING and CLAPPING at ever Bat-detail and how rediculous thing got in the best Saturday morning cartoon way! while my other friend was like turn this shit off blecchh...lol

I was at the premiere for this at WonderCon 2018 and this movie was just "Don't Ask Questions: The Movie" and i still don't know quite how to feel about it. It was rushed yet overstuffed and man i wanted to love it, but love the balls it had haha!
I watched this drunken, methed-out fever dream when it was released. I was so mad at myself for doing it. It is interesting to see others experience it though.
This movie is a wild fever dream, but yes it was dubbed, the voice for the Joker in the Japanese was pretty awesome. This movie probably would've worked better as a game mind you, and without the time travel, and without the whole monkey Bat-kaiju thing and mecha stuff, also the shaved bald patch is not a good look for Bruce, neither is using the bat symbol when you're meant to be undercover. Like, absolute fever dream
