There are so many tips & tricks to see! Learn how to make miniature cement tiles, a tiny egg, a faux wrought iron finish, and more while I make accessories, food, and furniture for the Goose Egg Dollhouse.
I'm working on transforming a REAL goose egg into a 1:48 scale dollhouse. The creator of the kit, Jill Castoral, made a flower shop inside a her egg. I took a class at the the Guild Show in September 2022 and began the process of completing the kit. The International Guild of Miniature Artisans has a show every year.
I'm making a charming home ooccupied by a beekeeper. The egg sits in a cast resin tree with a wooden base. I'll be adding more detail to the base in a future videl. I'm so excited about this fun project and happy to share it with all of you.
    Enjoy!

Here's the kit for the frames I assembled from Robin Betterley. It's $10! The sizes lend themselves well to 1:48, 1:24, & 1:12 scale.
    Some of my favorite things:
    Double-sided flooring tape

Miter Shears- these are the clippers I use to cut pieces of wood and toothpicks etc
    amzn.to/3sQJnhe
    Dirty Down Rust Effect paint
    amzn.to/3xjxOBu
    Oyu Pla/Oyumaru reusable mold putty
    amzn.to/44KaaJz
Cheaper clear mold putty I haven't tried
    amzn.to/45JiAlB
2 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze
    amzn.to/3zmMLR1
8 oz bottle of Diamond Glaze
    amzn.to/3zpiMbm
Heat gun- I use mine to quickly dry paint, soften the glue to dismantle furniture and quickly cure polymer clay without an oven. Gets a lot hotter than a hair dryer.
    amzn.to/3YBAIcH
Craft heat gun that doesn't get as hot as mine
    amzn.to/3ZZ5wWe
Paper fasteners & 1/8" hole punch

Your sense of humor is killing me. "My heat gun has since died so this is hard for me to watch." I know the feeling. Every time I eat Smart Food White Cheddar Popcorn or cook frozen shrimp for shrimp cocktail I think about my cat who passed in July 2021. She had thyroid disease and was almost 20 so it wasn't unexpected - she lived a long life. She loved those two foods. I can't eat them without still wishing I could share them with her. So missing something you once had is understandable.

I have literally no explanation for it, but something about miniatures makes me feel so joyous. I'd describe it as "celebratory". Seeing that teeny tiny little egg makes me want to run around giving out free high fives. Like how some people feel after watching their football team make a particularly impressive goal. But with impossibly small kitchen items.

Here’s a good tip I discovered when making tiny round wooden legs. Get a drill, Dremel or flex shaft and open the chuck and insert the toothpick. Close down the chuck tightly and then sand or file while you are running the tool. It helps to have one that has a variable speed so you aren’t running it at a really high speed. I especially like my flex shaft for this because it has a foot pedal which allows me to run it at whatever speed I want and I have two hands free. If you’re using a Dremel or a drill then just clamp it to a table top and now you have a mini lathe to use.

Such a great tip! I own a Dremel but I never use it. I need to get into the habit because it's such a useful tool. It's currently packed because I'm moving, but once I set up a new studio I'll make sure I use it.

Making the cement tiles from the pot holder was Brilliant! I actually have that exact pot holder, it's fun to play with, lol. Wood Glue has become my favorite glue. I had made a chair and wanted to sit a teddy bear in it. Used some clay from DT and Hoped it would air harden. No such luck, it wound up being plasticine. 😐 Didn't want to wait until I bought more clay, so I painted the bear with a few coats of wood glue. When dry, painted him with acrylic and then some Mod Podge. That was over a month ago and the bear still looks perfect! As long as it's an item that isn't handled much or squished, regular clay coated in wood glue works! And he doesn't stick to his chair, that glue sealed the clay just right. 👍

    • @queencityminis

I have subscribed, although I don't make any of these things I love seeing the minis. My aunt made a victorian doll house years ago from scratch (mainly). It was amazing to watch it grow. She was always adding things and changing things as she got new ideas. I still have my dolls house that my grandad made for me when I was five. He made all the furniture and carved bricks in wood for the front facade, it has glass windows! It's about 3ft square and has a fitted kitchen. Unfortunately he was taken ill before he could put in electrics like he did with my cousins one. I'm 54 this year. My aunt helped me renovate it for my daughters 4th birthday. I then did a few more bits to it for my granddaughter as part of her Christmas present in 2014 when she was five. Who knows maybe one day I'll have a great granddaughter to pass it on to. the bit of veneer possibly could be from a basket repair kit. my mom was a longaberger lady in the 80s and we had several handfuls of wooden basket strips and leather strips for repair work. fantastic for mini work. Thanks for reminding me that those ball stylus' can be found at Dollar Tree. I find many crafting item there. I recently ordered a pasta machine to make 18" doll food from polymer clay. This is the reason I watch miniature crafting. I pick up techniques and ideas but make items much larger (a lot easier to work with, too). I checked my local Hobby Lobby because I decided to buy a separate oven just for baking polymer clay. I remembered seeing one at Hobby Lobby when I was buying the clay. It was $50 so I promptly went to the nearby Walmart and checked the prices of the smaller toaster ovens. They had some for $19.98 and one was $13. I bought the $20 one. Why spend $50 for one that is just as good for $20 ? Hobby Lobby had clay sculpting tools but none included the ball stylus' so I didn't think they were worth the money to get a lot of tools when toothpicks or safety pins would work. Not sure where you get those small bells but I look for them after Christmas when they go on sale in the earring and jewelry section. I use them to decorate doll clothes (elf costumes) or to make doll necklaces. Always searching for "stuff" for miniature projects. Love your videos, techniques, and ideas. Thanks for posting.

Literally 🤯🤯🤯🤯 my mouth hit the floor and I ate a fly! 😂 This is crazy amazing and you don't have to ever 'stop there'...ever 🤷‍♀️😂! The details really are so important, and in my humble opinion they're what makes the difference between a ho-hum piece and an amazing piece. The vintage piece of wood you used for the cutting board is a piece of flooring strips that were included in house kits! I have a bunch and I'll send you some. I'll look for your address in the channel info. I really am amazed at how effortlessly you work in 1/44 scale. You do fantastic work in every mini scale, but it seems the smaller the scale the more incredible the pieces become. Have you been infected by the Rub n Buff virus too? It's inevitable, so just embrace it and let it become part of who you are 😂.

    • @queencityminis
      @queencityminis  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That's awesome! That makes sense bc I got the flooring strips with a vintage kit. It was open, so I assumed the flooring was purchased separately. I plan to get a PO Box once I move.

Completely useless info here, but end papers are used when giving/getting a perm. You wrap the end of the hair in the paper, then wrap it on the curler. It helps prevent the chemicals from destroying the thin tips of the hair (according to my mother, who is a cosmetologist.. heh) I've watched her use those things for years. I'll bet she has a lot of supplies I could use for miniature.. hrm. Thanks for the tip!!!

That is so funny that you caught that! I almost replaced that line since it doesn't make a ton of sense but my point was the owner of the egg house is a beekeeper, so the stuff inside probably doesn't look brand new. This still isn't making sense LOL. The beekeeper prefers a more rustic aesthetic!
