that's because he has nothing good to say about it. he got taken for a ride and dumped and they didn't apologize or anything he was used as fresh meat and discarded when slightly out of date. they need to keep touring and making the $ off of randy's material he got used for that and they paid him squat. take a look at how he acts about it hes not happy at all and really never discusses it like it was some great memory more like its just a pain in the ass to have to keep talking about it like it interests him hes probably bored as fuck about the whole affair I would be. sharon and ozzy still aren't square with him i wouldn't be happy either.

Jake E Lee is my second favorite guitar player of all time, behind Jimmy Page. His band, Badlands is my second favorite behind Led Zeppelin. And that, with only 3 albums! His riffs, chops and phrasing are so unique. It's difficult to figure out his solos because he breaks rules of theory that if anyone else did it, it wouldn't work. But Jake can build psychedelic phrases that sound insane, intense, emotive, passionate and inspired concurrently. His contribution to his generation is invaluable 🤘

Nobody could replace Randy Rhoads. Ozzy had a different sound after Randy died. Do you have kids or even pets. You don’t replace a pet that dies. You may choose to get a new one, but you don’t replace the pet. Ozzy’s band had an opening that needed to be filled due to death. No one quit or died. Replacing means getting the same or better because you no longer want the original. Replacing is a choice. You replace a refrigerator you no longer like. Lynch said he believes Ozzy fired him because he showed up with very short hair. Which I absolutely believe. He said Ozzy asked him in disgust, "What happened to all your hair?! Also rem that Jake had been blown away by Greg Chaisson's playing so he tried to talk Ozzy into hiring him but Ozzy wouldn't because he didn't like his look. Ozzy and Sharron were very big on image(as were most acts & labels in the 80's). Notice all the guitarist auditioning had to submit photos. I'm sure Jake prefers the story that his playing won out over Lynch's but in truth, Lynch's new wave hairdo lost him the gig. Of course Ozzy wouldn't have admitted that he fired Lynch over a haircut. That wouldv'e made him look shallow & petty. Bottom line, we all know Lynch kicks ass and can out shred Jake. Plus, following Randy wouldv'e brought out the best in him. But sadly, people call it "Hair Metal" for a reason. Rock On!

    • @kevgamble

Both Lee and Lynch seem to agree that Lee didn't play well at the audition but got the gig anyway because of image. Lee played extremely well with Ozzy and Lynch played extremely well with Dokken, so for the fans, all the hardships these guys were put through resulted in some great music.

@@kevgamble Agreed. However, I wish someone on TH-cam would at least put an Ozzy vocal track over a Lynch Mob or Dokken backing track in the same key to hear the two together. I just know Lynch's exotic minor stuff would've worked great with Ozzy's style back then.
Imagine music like Mr. Scary, Kiss of Death, Tooth & Nail or even Heaven Sent with Oz singing dark lyrics over it. That stuff wouldv'e sounded way more menacing with Ozzy's vocals. And again, I know having to follow Randy would've lit a fire under him.
Not to mention, Lynch has a much more original style & tone than Jake. After 3 or 4 notes... you KNOW it's Lynch! And it's a badass and very seductive style & tone. No offense to Jake. He did a fine job but his main strengths were songwriting and rhythm playing. His soloing was not hugely original(or challenging) and neither was his tone. He def knew how to write good songs though

dumbass signed the contract, he screwed himself if ya ask me, but he didnt because he took that ride only to try springing up his own band as he clearly continued ranting about while he was still in ozzys band . he got more from ozzy than ozzy got from him...

I think that if George went with Ozzy and not Randy we'd of still have heard Randy Rhoads shoot to fame no matter what he did....if he was with quiet riot in 83 they blew up like hell. that year....

I recall an interview -- not too long ago -- where George explained that he didn't get the gig with Ozzy because of his hair, that is, he didn't have the right look. At least that's what I remember.

OOPS!!! Didn't see your comment till now.... I just posted this above... I'll repost here, if you don't mind:
And, as for Lynch's 2nd time he was up for Ozzy... and essentially had the gig... I interviewed George a few times for Guitar One magazine (between 1998-2005), and in one of them he mentioned something about needing to get a side job as a truck driver, because after he (apparently) got the Ozzy gig, there was no $$ coming in yet... He had to CUT HIS HAIR to get the trick driver job... Ozzy saw George and asked "Why'd you cut your hair?!" and was pissed... This coincides with when Jake showed up at SIR, or wherever the rehearsal "audition" was Jake refers to in this interview. An extra detail to toss int the pot! (Maybe someone already wrote this in earlier comments though.)

What a story!...never heard that about Lynch's role with Ozzy & firing. Love that Jake has shared some of his past so openly. Jake is a pretty chill guy & awesome guitarist. Really enjoy these behind the scenes history to some great music. Jake has some really good music out now with Red Dragon Cartel. Thanks! 🎸👍

The only difference between Randy and Jake's playing is in body style. Jake did alot of actual physical interpretation of the music while Randy just basically stood there focusing alot more than Jake, who moved his entire body to the sound alot. That distracted from his concentration somewhat. Randy had him on that. Randy was classically trained from age 7. Who can compete with someone who lived guitar their entire life? Jake was the only player I know of though who could step in and keep Ozzy and Sharon's machine alive. Jake is a great guitarist in his own right and even more thrilling that Randy to watch, and that's saying alot.

Jake E Lee is an awesome guitar player. Zakk Wylde is too but he looks like a dirty wizard. Bark at The Moon was one of my favorite Ozzy albums and I still love Now You See it Now You Don't. I love the main guitar riff and the solo in that song. And I really love Rock N Roll Rebel and the solo on that is killer!!!

Just to clarify, according to George, Randy beat him out for the gig, he did not turn it down. I think Darth Hideous more made the decision to more on from Lynch, I am sure ozzy signed off on it, but Darth Hideous was about look more, and Jake had a look she thought would connect better. But of course, Jake is also a great player.

I think it's odd you don't consider Ozzy's extreme influence, success and popularity in your assessment. His career hasn't exactly been dysfunctional and it's only your opinion that he's average.
