    In this video I'm going to show you how to draw a landscape in pen and ink. I'm going to talk about how to choose a good subject, give you a few simple compositional rules to consider, and then demonstrate the drawing process.
    I'm using three TWSBI Eco's to do this drawing, an extra fine, a medium and broad. In the video I mistakenly say that they're filled with Platinum Carbon ink. They're actually filled with Noodler's Black.
    I'm working in a Talens Art Creations Sketchbook

    I can't describe how useful this video is to me. I've been drawing for a while now, and I found that pen and ink is the most suitable medium for my style, but I was struggling a lot. After watching this video, I find things more clear and can say that I've learnt a lot about the technique. Thank you so much for this great effort.

    Great tips and explanation about the shapes and compositions. Drawing with a fountain pen or ink in general is difficult because you need to achieve the depth and contrast in order to discern what you are trying to explain to the viewer. Placing yourself in the right position to create the right cross hatching is very important.

    • @mkompan
      @mkompan  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great point, that I should have emphasized. With difficult mediums such as watercolor and pen and ink, finding the correct subject matter is half the battle.

  • @ichirofakename
    @ichirofakename ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fascinating and informative to hear the aesthetic judgments and guidelines underlying your approach to landscape drawing. I also have given these matters some thought, though I have ended up going down a different path. The hatching demos and instructions are gold for me anyways, as there are only so many ways to make a mark on paper.
    I'm impressed at how you keep your work so clean, even though it appears you place your bare hand directly on the paper. I've taken to wearing cotton gloves, or using a hand bridge, in an effort to minimize smears and blotches, with very limited success.

    • @mkompan
      @mkompan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video even though from what I gather, your work is abstract. There’s zero consensus on these things, even among artists that deal with similar subject matter, and I always enjoy hearing how other artists approach composition and subject choice.
      As for cleanliness, the camera’s inability to pick up subtle light values might make the drawing look cleaner than it is. For studio work I’ll put down a sheet of paper under my hand, but the contact with the drawing surface is a actually fairly minimal, with my hand mostly hovering.

      Thanks Nikita. I’m glad this video came at the right time for you. It’s funny, it actually helps to think like a watercolorist with this technique, with layers of hatching functioning very much like transparent washes of watercolor.
