It is interesting how this rule suddenly makes the Pawn the most important piece in the game. Queen is just a mere servant also in the attacks, and defending is bipolar, because not only King safety matters, but also VIP must covered from all threats. If the opponent would know, which one of the Pawns is VIP, he would concentrate all his forces to demolish it.
Ye but he only play with bots which target king. Not the pawn
this rule turns chess into an imperfect information game, unless the opponent knows about the rule and which pawn is Very Important.
@@Skyler827 Exactly. The best strategy could be threatening different pawns and conlude by defender's reactions, which he covers like the King. But as you in a great way brought up, it would be imperfect information game, like poker, and the defender could bluff by covering very unimportant pawn as decoy.
Hum or just one and take it for win
All pawns are important, but some are more important than others.

AMERICA HECK YEAH
A pawn and H pawn are half as good as the B, C, D, E, F and G pawns.

The V.I.P. wins against the poor family man... this says a lot about society...
Lol
Really like the new editing! Great stuff!
You should play this against a humans where you both have one VIP.
Would be fun seeing you trying to figure out which of his pawns is the VIP, and see i you can get him to sacrefice the queen for the wrong pawn
The marked pawn (pion coiffe) aka the very important pawn, must not be queened, nor must it be taken by your opponent or checkmate delivered by any other pawn or piece, or you lose. (Howard Staunton, 1847) This was primarily for use when the Elo difference is huge, in other words, where there is a vast difference between the skills of the players.
Awesome, I've never heard about this handicap, but I figured someone already had a similar idea since it is not that hard to come up with. Thanks for the info.
Suggestion: Cannonball chess
Every two moves, Martin fires a cannon at a random square and if your piece is on that square it dies. But Martin's pieces have put on cannonball-proof armor so the cannonballs don't do anything to them.
Good luck!
THIS IS AN AMZING IDEA
What if it lands on your king?
@@Kingteleporter I made the kings also wear the armor in my more recent suggestion

I really appreciate these calm and chill challenge videos! They are very nice to watch during quiet time with my daughter!

"You don't want to see this part."
Me: *slows video to half/quarter speed* Yes I do XD
Next Challenge: You must alternate between paired pieces, i.e if you move the light squared bishop, you can't move it again until you move the dark squared bishop first. bishops pair, knights pair, rooks pair, king and queen pair
There’s no king and queen pair
@@user-nb1sz1nd3u can't move queen until you move king
What if the king moves then get’s checked? Then he can’t move the queen, so he fails?
@@Idefinetlywontjumponyourhead5X well if u can block with queen u have to and otherwise blunder your queen i guess
You should play against Martin with checkers pieces (can only move diagonally one square at a time, and must jump to take other pieces) while Martin has chess pieces.
Great stuff, as always, Nelson! Thanks!
VIP actually means very important person😂
Chess but your opponent 's pieces are fire!
everytime you capture your opponent's pieces, that piece will be on fire. The pieces which on fire will be destroyed in the next turn and if your others pieces are nearby the fired pieces(1 square away from it), those pieces will also be on fire!
Wow, VIP has three meanings now
Very Important Person
Very Important Pawn
Very Important Piece
Highlander chess: Only one of each piece type can be allowed to move. Examples: If you start play e4, you may not move the other pawns unless it gets taken first. If you play knight c6, the other knight can't be moved until that knight is taken.
Edit: This challenge seems to get difficult when the bot has a higher rating.
"Pawns are the heart and soul of chess"-Philodor
These Martin challenges are fun. You should do more of these :D
Nah they are quite cringey. But i won't blame Nelson to capitalize on the chess boom
@@shreyaskumar9175 To each their own then
chess vs Martin but you are only allowed 4 active pieces at a time.
A piece becomes active when it is moved for the first time and remains active until the end of the game or until it is captured. If an active piece is captured you can choose to activate another piece. If you already have 4 active pieces and are forced to move a fifth piece then you lose.
Hard mode: 3 or 2 active pieces
This is known as pion coiffé (capped pawn), a form of handicap where the stronger player has to checkmate with a specific pawn.
Challenge: Chess but you can only move a piece if EVERY piece with less point value than that piece has been moved (pawns don’t count). Eg. If you want to move a rook you will have had to already moved at least 1 pawn, both your bishops and both your knights. You can move either a knight or bishop when you have moved at least 1 pawn. I will say that the king is worth 10 points (so more than everything else). Sorry if this is confusing
You took your own knight with bishop.... hahaha
Watched it several times and it’s an edit. White Queen took his knight then he took the Queen.
@@ilkslaya7333 he repeated it in next the game too
At 12:06. When the rook takes the G file, putting the bishop on the h8-a1 diagonal, then under promoting to a knight for mate would of been a lil nice.
1:25 you could have won the queen
Nevermind, I keep forgetting that it's Martin. He probably wouldn't block with f3.
He could block on f3, and i tested the game against martin he did block with f3
Chess but your ranged pieces have a limited range of 2 and your knights cannot move. You give your opponent 2 more knights for compensation
2:25 did anyone notice his castle?
this should become a chess variant but the opponent doesn't know the VIP pawn. If the VIP pawn gets captured then you lose
Would be cool, and similar to poker cuz you could bluff and defend another pawn to trick your opponent... might be hard do defend your king and a vip pawn in chess
Challange idea:
You play against stockfish level 8 from regular chess starting position. You play as white. Your goal is survive for 60 moves.
g pawns are usually among those that survive long enough to become passed
tbh it is interesting how adding this rule makes the f pawn, usually known as the worst pawn, will become the most important piece

MARTIN DOES THE CHAD BONGCLOUD

@@zerotwo4271 I do but this isn’t crusher 21 lol, it’s just his profile pic
@@LetsTaIk oh you also play clash royale do you play fatherless cycle 2.6
I think this would actually be a hard challenge, every time you capture a non queen piece it's removed but then upgraded and placed somewhere on board. To decide where it's placed (if you're playing white) start at a8 and try to place it, if the square is occupied go to b8, then c8 ect. If all of the 8 file is taken then go to a7 and continue until you get an open square. How the upgrading works, captured pawns promote to bishops or knights (whichever he has less of, if it's a tie do bishop) captured knights and bishops promote to rooks, captured rooks promote to queens, captured queens are permanently removed from the board
How about restriction chess? Like a king can't move to a place where it can be checked, pieces(except for knights) can't move towards or pass enemy pieces line of attack. However you can go through diagonals and still have the option to capture a protected piece. If a piece blocks a piece's line of sight you can cross through there. You can play against Martin and he doesn't have to abide by this rules, cause he is that special. Ik this is confusing but it's been stuck in my head for a while and I would like to see this in a game.
Imagine a similar challenge, but the opponent must have a certain minimum amount of material on the board as they get checkmated. That would make it far more challenging.
You missed a queen and king fork at 1:40 in the video
Chess, but every time one of Martin’s pawns is facing one of your non-pawns, that piece dies (except for the king)
Day 14: As a challenge, could you beat Martin with not taking any pieces?
No
@@yo5233 im putting this as a challenge
Nope its almost impossible since you cant take martin piece he will just devour all your pieces till the game ends or even force you to eat a piece by checking
Day 7034 of poking my piggy bank: can i be rich?

Challenge:
Power Pyramid chess against Martin
Every time Martin captures a piece, the piece (or pawn) that was used to capture gets upgraded into a better piece (pawn=>knight, knight=>bishop, bishop=>rook, rook=> queen) if a queen of Martin captures a piece, a pawn is placed wherever you want.If it is too easy, then apply the same thing to you but in reverse, if a pawn captures, it's gone from the board(also I love your video ideas😍)
That pawn paid extra
"aha! Choose which one you want alive, the pawn or your king!"
"Pawn."
"wh-wha?"
You could have skewered the queen knowing it’s Martin and he wouldn’t block with pawn
Next is the MVP - Most Valuable Pawn
Challenge: try the same thing but with center pawns as the vip. Either one will be fine and if that’s too easy make both of them the vip and one of them had to deliver checkmate but both of them must be alive.
Give Martin 2 kings and you have to mate both his kings on the same move
idea: chess but you have to move the same type of piece moved by Martin (for example if he makes a pawn move you have to make a pawn move as well
Would be difficult because if you capture all pieces the best you could do is a draw because a king can’t checkmate alone
Thanks for the video on the boiling frog opening, i had an irl tournament today and got 3 in my age group and i got 5/7 points and i played the opening 4 times and won every game
That is awesome!
good cop bad cop ches. You are playing against martin and stockfish but they are alternating moves( I hope this will be interesting
)
"Here we go the V.I... (awkward silence for half a sec) OHHHH MY" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Here's a challenge I've came up with: Try to beat Martin but you can't let him take any of your pieces. If he ever does, you lose.
chess against martin but you can only use pieces on the king's side of the board, and those pieces cannot move to the queen's side of the board. If you are forced to do otherwise, you lose.
'Hitmen Chess' : Each friendly piece can only take enemy pieces once those pieces takes one of your pieces.
you need to eliminate the pieces in order of which attacked first to last.
Goal: Try to checkmate him without 'freely' being able to take any pieces, only if an enemy piece becomes a hitman piece. (This happens when the enemy piece has taken any of your pieces)
You could (if needed) exclude this rule for pawns
Chess but if you lose a bishop, you can’t checkmate.
Not martin playing the bongcloud 💀
Classic Capped Pawn odds required mate to be delivered by a move of the chosen Pawn other than a promotion, though the check could be by discovery. Read that in an old chess book decades ago.
Challenge idea:
You play against a bot, but every time you make a good, excellent, best, great, or brilliant move, the bot temporarily turns into stockfish for the next two moves.
all pawns are equal, but this one's a bit more equal
Chess against Martin but, you have to checkmate him with underpromotion.
You take your own knight with queen in 2nd game...hahaha
Challenge idea:
You ply Martin but it’s hyper-bullet chess. You only have 30 seconds to play and win against Martin. If it is to easy make it 15 seconds.
Yeah I see you reversing moves
by the way - if there's a pawn that martin can take but it's defended, no matter what martin will not take it.
Challenge: chess but your king is a foolhardy micromanager, which means you play Bongcloud, every third move must be a forward king move if possible, if a piece is captured the king will want to go to the site and investigate, he does not trust his wife so the queen is not allowed to move where he can't see her, and he must be defending the piece that delivers checkmate.
Optional rules: every time a piece captures an enemy piece, your piece must write an incident report and deliver it to the king as soon as possible. If a piece questions or disobeys the king's excessive rules, he will write them up for insubordination and deliver it to them as soon as possible. The pawns go on strike due to poor working conditions and being undervalued so they will refuse to move or capture after the sixth move. The pieces also hate the king for his micromanaging and excessive rules so they will not move more than two squares at a time unless capturing. If the game does not end after 40 moves, the opportunistic enemy king will make a really good offer and your pieces and pawns will defect to the other side and you may only play on with the queen and king.
Maybe use this challenge again but against a real player but you both have a randomised VIP pawn and the first one to lose the VIP loses and you also don't know which VIP pawn is from the enemy
all pawns are equal but some pawns are more equal than others
The Curse Staff:Chess but you cannot move the same unit twice in a row but every 3 turns get a extra move example you move the king 3 times then you can move it for the 4th time for free
Chess but you play 20 moves against Martin and then, swap colors, that is try to win the lost position against Martin.
Ok, you start the game normally, but can only checkmate if it's your only move
nice new sfx for the intro
Hi Nelson. Nice video. I was curious about what strategy you would follow.
woah the g pawn is the VIP he’s the top g
the pawn is a G
Nelson really did a disrespect speedrun against nelson at 10:25
the timestamp makes it look like he made an illegal move
Very Important Pawn. ha nice pawn there
Aint no way Martin got beaten by a pawn checkmating him-
Challenge: every 10 moves, you are forced to make the worst legal move possible
you could checkmate nelson with the pawn if you defended queening square with your king instead of your bishop, and you defended the square nelson's king escaped with your bishop
now imagine he rolls e or d pawn
Now do the reverse V.I.P where u have to win without taking 3 pieces is martin vip's
It's similar to pion coiffé handicap
do this but with another person
you both have a vip and you dont know his or hers vip but you know urs
Try to checkmate Martin with a discovered attack after moving the King!
Day 1:when u move a piece u have to move it again on the next turn, castling is kings move. If you are forced to move another piece u lose
I liked the glasses you put on the VIP queen!
Props to my editor!

Damm this is a really interesting concept
CHALENGE IDEA (Horse House) play a game where you have to checkmate only with horses and with more than 5 horses
12:16 to do the pawn checkmate play bc8 ka7 kd7 ka8 ra6+ kb8 f7# :)
Challenge:Martin but you can’t move your queen or premote a pawn to a queen
Chess Challenge: You become what you take example: Queen takes Rook the Queen becomes a rook (This doesn't effect the colors)
Suggestion: You must move the same type of piece that Martin just moved. (If you play as white, your first move doesn't count)
and the king is the MVP
Beat Martin but every move he gains another rook (his or yours).
Also, Nelson and Nelson 😁
Could have done discovery checkmate with pawn and rook
2:54 if martin had played Rook g4 you would have had to sac your queen I think
Challenge Idea: When you kill a piece more of your piece will appear when you killed.
I think u should make a video of u playing with Martin but your pieces must all land on light squares
The V.I.P is rich and can afford a membership.
