I’ve recently driven it from Brussels to the Rome area and I would’ve preferred to have done that in the EV version. Not in a single day mind, the EV version is definitely not the right EV to try that in. But having a toddler in the back, we split the journey over three days. 5-7hs of driving each day. I could’ve done that in the EV version. Sure, I would’ve had to stop a bit more often than I’d preferred BUT: I would’ve had a nice and smooth driving experience throughout the trip. At that point you’re just driving a normal hybrid and that annoys me at this stage. I wish the EV version had more range and faster charging, but I’d still take it over the PHEV version. I wouldn’t necessarily take the 308 over the Astra though. I had the Astra PHEV hatchback before the 308SW and the Astra certainly beats the 308 on some points. I think it’s a handsome car too so don’t be fooled into thinking the Peugeot is necessarily better. It’s a pretty car but its design is also more pretentious and well… it doesn’t always deliver. In some points, the no nonsense Opel approach is just better. Those I-toggles are an example. Could’ve been better than the Astra way…. but just aren’t. They’re worse.

Fun review, thank you. I was given a Peugeot as a courtesy car when I took mine in for a service. I found I like the small steering wheel for precisely the reason Nicola gave which is that you can throw the car around. The other thing which I admire increasingly is that Stellantis has produced platforms with really good underpinnings but which are able to take on the characteristics of the brand you happen to be in. So this thing feels Peugeot. Another thing I like about the Stellantis platforms is that you get a sensible sized battery (54kwh) rather than some behemoth designed for a moonshot. Very few of us do more than 200 miles in a normal day and quite a lot of us outside of cities can charge at home, so who needs 400 miles? Really? So if you like a Peugeot look and feel this works. I agree it seems a bit underpowered BTW.
Hmmm, Nicola... As always, a fun, engaging review - so, thank you for that. 👍 But, efficiency...? "I'm getting, roughly, 3.8 miles/kWh..." 3.8 x 51kWh usable battery capacity is only 193 miles - so not exactly the "around 210 miles" you suggested in the video...!

The rust on the rear brakes is normal. New brakes go rusty almost immediately once they get wet once. It’s cast iron and that’s what’s happens with that.
@@Nickbaldeagle02 the MG5 might be very cheap used, but otherwise for decent range you can only really go to the expensive BMW, VW or Audi. Maybe Nio ET5 if they are available where you live. Especially on cheaper end and used market, anything slightly bigger will be a crossover/SUV unfortunately.
This is the EV so many people say they want, just like their ICE car but electric, so it should sell in high numbers. Sadly it won't. I've no idea why it should have a transmission tunnel in the rear as the ICE version is front wheel drive.
The transmission tunnel is no a transmission tunnel but an exhaust tunnel for the ICE or hybrid version of the car. A compromise you have to make when building one platform for bothe ICE and pure EV.
Stellantis really acts like they totally want you to avoid their EV range. No one pedal driving, 0-60 in two business days, 136 or 156HP - which year it is? MG 4 has better 0-60, more powerful motor and one pedal driving. And costs less than 308 or Astra. Personally I chose Kona EV, it's a way better package than the Stellantis' offerings.

OK Peugeot design department, design a longboy (estate) with plenty of capacity for a family and associated stuff. Great the 308SW. Huge boot, lovely space in the front seats but hold on, only suitable for small people in the back seats? What's going on, anyone above 11 years of age cant come as they might be too big?? Not sue that makes much sense? I do like an estate, touring, avant or longboy but isn't the whole idea of an estates to carry the passengers and associated 'stuff' in comfort. Maybe Nickys experience with her young family is very relevant?
Doesn't look too bad, but why pick this over something like the ID.4 that costs the same? The ID.4 has more power, and most importantly a much bigger battery and faster charging. It's just too expensive.
The cheapest ID.4 is 3.000 pounds more expensive and has a smaller battery, less range, cheap interior, annoying swipe buttons, ugly styling, and slower average charging (which is more important than max charging).
@@drfisheye Here in Finland the E-308 SW 50.8kWh is 47 418€, while the 77kWh ID.4 is 47 990€. For comparison, the base spec Model Y is 45 990€. The E-308 could be a great buy if it was maybe 41 990€. You wouldn't pay the asking price. Peugeot make a substantial contribution to the deposit of you go for finance and there would be a big discount if you were paying cash.
3.8 miles/kWh feels pretty poor for a car that should be more aerodynamic than an SUV, particularly if that was over the summer. Our ID4, which has a similar size battery, does much better than that. And personally the transmission tunnel in an EV would drive me mad!
Well I checked this and it turns out that both cars are 1852mm wide, but being an SUV, the ID4 is actually taller (1631mm vs 1442mm for the 308SW) which is what will increase the drag relative to the 308 because of the larger frontal area. Yet the 308 is still less efficient. Id4 is also slightly shorter (4584mm vs 4636mm) but obviously that doesn't affect the efficiency in the same way!
With a 70 kwh or so battery I could have forgiven them the bad efficiency and transmission tunnel. But like this it’s simply useless as a family car for a lot of people. It’s the perfect car to prove EV haters right with this terrible range. Our 2019 Kona has significantly longer range, so whenever we feel like our family needs a bigger car, I really hope enough manufacturers have gotten it together that there are decent range wagon style EVs on the used market. I don’t need a fancy new ID.7 or BMW Tourer, but this here is simply too terrible to even consider.
Yeah Big Motorola mobile phones like bricks was for somebody useful too - time is needed for competition and engineering.Another analogy i like is electric battery powered drills- you don't want to carry too heavy battery with the drill too if you could swap it for charged another battery
No car needs a panoramic roof. That's a BS feature that's overheating cars anytime the sun is shining. Stop complaining about EVs costing too much, and then reinforcing dumb Tesla ideas. Thanks for listening to my very short podcast
A pano roof gives a wonderful feeling of space and air in the car. I would never ever consider paying for it, but it came standard on my Model 3. Now I love it. No BS at all. Overheating? No problem. I always switch the climate control on 5 to 10 minutes before driving. As well in winter as summer.
They glass roofs do.no5 cost that much considering how much stronger they are, how much more structure you would need if you did not have the glass. Plus you gain about three inches of height to the interior...
You need a pan roof to compensate for the dire “coal bunker” dark interiors and the blind is there to shade the interior if you so desire or maybe try the scenic roof
Hmnmmm, I dislike these quasimodo cars, the humpback thing. But i like the person presenting this program.😁 Nice interior and styling. I like these French EV's Thanks for the fun Nicola.
It's the fake chrome trim around where the pollution pipes should be that makes it a no no for me, come on it only needed to have the lower rear trim changed plus as a estate car it should have far better economy so it's a 2 out of 10 from me.

On paper.... Those numbers are pretty average. But as a simple 308, it is adequate. I have a similar spec on my Citroen E-C4 and it does everything our family needs. The only issue with Stellantis cars, is their RRP is way too high and need negotiating downwards.

just far far too expensive no matter how good it is, but certainly one for the second hand market over the next few years
You wouldn't pay the asking price. Peugeot make a substantial contribution to the deposit of you go for finance and there would be a big discount if you were paying cash.
There have been some good lease offers too

MORE DOGS!!! Listen to your fans, please 😇😇
3.8 miles/kWh feels pretty poor for a car that should be more aerodynamic than an SUV, particularly if that was over the summer. Our ID4, which has a similar size battery, does much better than that. And personally the transmission tunnel in an EV would drive me mad!
ID.4 is much smaller car. Look how much space there is behind the rear seats. Needs to be compared to a giant SUV like the EV9...
Like pano roof. George Jetson has a pano roof.
I love a pano roof. I would (and did) pay extra for it.

Too much
Hmnmmm, I dislike these quasimodo cars, the humpback thing.
But i like the person presenting this program.😁
Nice interior and styling. I like these French EV's
Thanks for the fun Nicola.
It's the fake chrome trim around where the pollution pipes should be that makes it a no no for me, come on it only needed to have the lower rear trim changed plus as a estate car it should have far better economy so it's a 2 out of 10 from me.
I wouldn’t rate anything Nicki Shields says. If it’s not a Range Rover, she won’t go for it
What the bobbins are you talking about? This isn’t even a Nicki Shields video!
You threw Nicki under the bus :-)

Car radios use dab which comes over the airwaves so it takes a little longer to tune in between your favourites ,at home etc a lot of radios nowadays use the internet full fibre via wi-fi so it’s a lot quicker to tune , but you may lose sound quality 👍👍😊👍👍
That isn't why it's slow, it's entirely down to the interface design and software.

Peugeot way overpriced though.

Show some "Electrifying" truths about these battery cars with too much technology.. - e.g. repair costs, insurance costs.
Who can repair these tech wonders, when things dont work ?
150hp and 100kw charging? Kind of lame.
On paper.... Those numbers are pretty average. But as a simple 308, it is adequate. I have a similar spec on my Citroen E-C4 and it does everything our family needs. The only issue with Stellantis cars, is their RRP is way too high and need negotiating downwards.
Nowadays everybody wants 500hp. 150 is totally sufficient for 95% of all people. Charging is not fast though.
You mean it will be affordable to insure?
@@Nickbaldeagle02 No idea on Peugeot. But my Citroen electric is far cheaper to insure than Polestar, BMW or Tesla.... So my guess is it will be. 150bhp is not sports car insurance.
That's just the Stellantis Standard and way of working.
The dash layout is just a shit show…
My Volvo jdm 2015 v40 has all that stuff and keyless it’s old tec
Yeah, why point out on 'keyless entry'? At this pricepoint? It's the bare minimum. Same for the pano roof. Where is it?
I can be your long boi, Nicola!
You make me laugh with your "long boy" label, Nicola: it will appeal to machos who think that "size matters." You probably titillated them talking about "whipping"! Wish I could see that 3D screen. Must be a combination of binnacle and heads-up display…? I'd like it much more if it had one-pedal driving (a must for me). I sure we had these -and so many other EVs- on the left side of the Atlantic. Lucky Europeans!
You can say whatever you want ,but this car is a joke of an EV. 100kW charging speed? In 2024? Please… build quality is really lame, as well.
Peugeot have just ranked 5th (Citroen 4th) in the Driver Power Survey for reliability. I've have 2 2008 ICE and the power and performance are great - great mpg and they are nippy. No build issues and, as the survey says, most owners agree.
