Great way to ballast and mixing the two ballast together fine and medium together. Track look awesome painted with the ties done gives it that boomer look to your layout Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great rest of your day and evening 😎TSM
Watching myself do this while filming, looking through the camera display, was incredibly difficult and distracting. The camera was in the way of what I was doing so I had to look through the display to see and well...my hat's off to all you guys out there who specialize in doing these how-to videos.
@@aleccooley4357 I don't really have that capability. It's fine though, I made it work once I got used to it. After watching the whole video, it didn't turn out that bad.
Wow! You did a great job, Allen. It looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing your method. One of the best sprayers I’ve found for misting is a Dawn power spray for greasy pots and pans but that one worked great. You never stop, do you? I’m chatting with you on the last video and this one comes out, lol.
@@derekalexander4030 Well, when people start throwing around Boomer references, I feel like I need to up my game! LOL... That's silly though...I don't have the patience or attention to detail that Boomer has...I mean he's a professional after all! Anyway, after the first "How I do stuff" video, I realized that it wasn't that difficult to do and since I was going to work on ballast today anyway, I figured, why not video it? I'll probably do another couple on how I weather my track and paint the rock faces. Thanks for the comments and for watching!
Nice How To! I haven't tested this out yet but going to - for years was told Elmers white glue/water. Ok fine. I haven't noticed a sheen or glaze but apparently video/photography equipment can pick it up so some now only use modge podge/water. Supposed to dry absolutely flat. Like I said, haven't done a side by side comparison myself but may be something I tinker time allowing. Of course I don't have high end video nor photography equipment so moot point.
I've heard that too about the sheen. I think I will switch to Mod Podge for my next batch and see if I can tell a difference. Maybe I'll do a comparison video and everyone can judge for themselves.
I have considered that. Honestly just wasn't sure if it was worth it, but given how much I've spent on the rest of the layout, the cost of a ballast spreader is pretty insignificant. I suppose it's worth a try. I'll add it to my wishlist.
The scoop came with the laundry soap container that I use to keep ballast in and I guess I thought it would work well enough, but it is too large. I just need to spend one minute, run up to the kitchen, and swipe one of my wife's teaspoons...LOL.

That is great info using the fine ballast! I did not realize that. I like the color of your ballast also. Thanks for the tutorial! 👍
You're welcome!
Cool.
Glad you like it.

great job, but you may get a ballast spreader

Maybe use the scoop as the handle and use the handle to apply ballast?
