    This is honestly such a necessary video to make as people these days (especially on the internet) call travel so often not understanding that great players simply know how to push the rules to their limits.

    • @club6525
      @club6525 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The simplest way to explain it for the NBA is it’s 3 steps are allowed. Too often tho, I just see people on TH-cam doing a pocket dribble and their hand just going on the underside of the ball. It’s so annoying because they say it’s not a carry when their hand is on the side but on the bottom half of the ball.

    • @jeepcuz420
      @jeepcuz420 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that a lot of these 3 step moves used to be travel prior to 2017 when the nba started allowing the 0 step. Prior to that all these moves were travel. It takes away from the purity of the game and it give offensive players the advantage.

    • @danielpaz671

      @@jeepcuz420 The zero step was always allowed, now it is just defined. Before adding it to to the rulebook the rule was ambiguous and not called consistently. A zero step is simply the step that was last completed before gathering the ball. Since it was already completed it does not count.

    safest way not to be call for a travel on first step using triple threat, whether nba rules or fiba is to practice the "split catch" MJ is a master of this techqnique. it will also make you a lot quicker if you're a begginer, and will teach you a fundamental of not establishing a pivot foot.

    would love your opinion of my devin williams travel or not video. the move you do at ~3:16--would you call that a travel? we all do it and it's ridiculously effective, but i'm pretty sure it's a travel b/c pivot foot lifts before the ball leaves our hand. I know you address this at 4:09--but from the rules I've seen, even NBA rules it still seems like a travel. Do you have a reference for the lead-foot comment of yours? And ya ur right. . .the quickness + confidence is what makes refs (imho) NOT call this move. I did a vid on this specific move--the lead foot drive--and EVERYONE does it and it never gets called. See it at the college/nba level all the time--wasn't even hard to find clips of it used--but a lot of people think it's a travel but my hunch is that's b/c there's a decent amount of european players watching USA bball vids.

    One thing I've always wondered: when doing a pushoff from the triple threat, does the ball have to literally be out of your hand in the dribble motion before you can pickup the back foot, or does it just have to be in the motion of dribbling? Like, can it still be in contact with your dribbling hand but the hand is above and starting the dribble?

    • @champoulie

    Wait so... is there also a "gather" step/point when catching a pass!? (that you're employing at 3:25) I only know it off the dribble. Because it looks like you're catching with a left foot pivot, then taking 2 steps and starting a dribble.

    • @tomb6617
      @tomb6617 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, traditionally we call this a travel. When you catch a pass you immediately establish a pivot, or else it’s a travel.
      The NBA is a business. They instruct officials not to call traveling because offense sells, and commentators don’t mention it because as the league succeeds they also profit. This trickles down to all levels of basketball to the point that a guy on youtube is teaching how not to be called for traveling while routinely traveling in the video.
      These are the emperor’s new clothes.

    Actually according to NBA official rules when starting to dribble from triple threat position you can NOT raise your pivot foot before the ball leaves your hands. There is no difference to FIBA rules here. Not that it ever gets called by the refs, so players do it all the time.
    But according to the rules you can only lift your pivot foot if you‘re gonna shoot or pass, but not when starting to dribble.
