Two things: The recovery mode is standard business with OCLP. This is where you can clear the internal/destination drive or maybe create a second volume for the new OS while keeping your first OS untouched. Use Disk Utility for all that. Then at the end, once you build OC to the internal drive and reboot you don’t need to hold option for that restart; the OC is running the show by default since you just blessed it. Once that desktop comes up you can get the USB out. Assuming you got all that right then you won’t see a notice about booting from USB. You would need to apply the patches tho and the app will notify you of that.
Good tips thanks, I guess when you rebuild opencore to move it to the system drive it knows to bless the efi? Did not know that will try on my next install.
Just about to upgrade an old 6,1 with a Ivy-Bridge E5-2697 V2 2.7GHz 12 core and 64GB of RAM. Thanks for the details on the OpenCore installation. I find their written directions and suggestions a little confusing sometimes so watching it step by step is very helpful. I think I'll wait for the non-beta versions of both the OS and OCLP though.
@@d_lydian Thank you very much for taking the time to advise me. I've already purchased the 12-core but I'll check the price of the E5-2667 and see if selling the 12-core is worth it. I'm recently retired so big performance gains are not the ultimate target.
Oh yeah! Upgraded my 2010 5,1 to macOS Sequioa 15.0 Beta last night and it's working beautifully! Thanks, Lance! One thing you may want to address is that your process in the video is for a clean install where OpenCore Legacy Patcher has never been installed previously. Obviously, once it's installed, it's a simple normal upgrade via Settings > General > Software Update. OCLP will then auto detect the upgrade, install the KDKs while Sequoia (or whatever OS) is downloading and then after install, you just root patch and reboot twice afterwards. I do have to admit, it's both frustrating and funny that the 2024 version of the most updated macOS is working perfectly on an "unsupported" Mac Pro from 2010.

macOS 15 Sequoia Oficial is already available. Just create a bootable pen drive with Beta version, then you just update the system from beta version to Oficial.
I updated t the real version of OCLP 2.0.0 and Beta is installed, not sure how you are updating from the beta OS to the new non beta though? I think for the five, one Martin Lo is the best with Monterey. Just a question question of can you still run the software that you need to run and then of course, some abs that are new won’t run with the old processors

@@senormachado2035 yes you can stay with Monterey and install 2.0.0 OCLP should tell you there is a update when you launch it, then just follow instructions. Monterey is dropped by Apple but you can keep using it but no more security updates.

It works in Sonoma so Inwoikd guess it would also be ok in Sequoia, best to install on a separate SSD and test it out, not all of the new functions will work, however, because some of them are AI based and Apple Silicon based

You should consider a Xeon E5-2667 instead of it. The 12 core does not have a good single core performance.
