One of my big early mistakes was financial. Bought a Speedmaster 1861 on finance as my first watch, after binging many youtube videos for a few months... realised that watches and debt should never mix.... now I have a 1990 G10 CWC and its perfect, for 5% of the price... this hobby doesn't have to be about hype , brand names etc etc... you don't need to spend thousands to enjoy great watches. My other favourite is my 5600 G shock... and W59 Casio... yes I've had a few omega and iwc etc, but in the end settled for watches I can wear without feeling guilty and worrying about them

Water resistance ratings are not about capability, they are about liability. For example, Longines doesn't use super duper gaskets in their 100m rated watches, and then use lousy ones in their 30m chronographs - they are exactly the same gaskets. The difference is that Longines doesn't want overbuild their chronographs, so they put the "30m" rating and then scare you, so they don't need to deal with warranty issues. In reality a 30m rated chronograph can actually survive greater than 60m depths. How do I know this? Because I have a water resistance tester and proved my theory for myself.

Regarding water resistance, and the Speedmaster. The Speedmaster is "supposed" to be useable in space, so having it be completely water/air-tight is a disadvantage because exposing a completely/high-rating water resistant watch to a vaccum can crack it. It's the space-equivalent of needing a Helium Escape Valve :p

Guy thank you for the shout out. Appreciate it.. yes I do have regrets about that Speedy but at the same time if truth be told, I bought and sold and bought 3 of them.... I love the watch but every time I feel it's a little too chunky for me... and maybe the price is hard to accept...I don't know... maybe I'll have one some day but for now I'm loving my CWC G10... what is it with us men and watches... sometimes it feels like a desperate desire to heal our minds, but materialism rarely helps in the long term... so I'm trying to just enjoy what I have, and more importantly to enjoy things that we can't buy - family, friendships, nature etc etc

Excellent points on fake/counterfeit watches, Guy. Some ppl wear fakes to prevent theft. Well, if it's a great looking fake, you're only going to piss off the bad guy trying to tell him it's fake. A couple of years ago, a guy in LA/Beverly Hills lost his life because he tried to hang on to his fake while the bad guy was taking it. All kinds of stupid. That was really sad.

Doesn't matter if you make videos every now and then. Good things are rare right! 😉 I hear you about the entire Rolex brand experience . Its all part of the prestige and acclaim. Its what makes them timeless. We all have watch mistakes. I wanted a certain field watch for years and when I finally bought it I gave it away after three months. It just didn't work for me. No bro 50m is good. Heck Casio's water resist is worth at least 50m of actual dive depth. Check out the video they did on the F91w. I love Perfect Circle! You are definitely right about music. The last link before the clasp on the Datejust was 15.32mm to the Explores 14.03. To the eye and on the wrist they are so close it’s hard to tell. For diving applications, you want equipment that's rated to at least twice the depth (or working pressure) of your deepest dives. Also, when diving into water, if the stem is facing forward, that increased velocity of water as it hits the watch could be problematic if you don't have a solid depth rating. Over time, seals deteriorate. I used to dive, but not anymore. So, a watch with a modest depth rating is more than enough for my pool-based adventures. My ego will survive my wearing a 50 M rated watch. Thanks, Guy. Stop by any time!
