Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 5 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming background I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15 We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to were we are now. We took on a 500 acre hill farm in 2019 currently 5 years into the tenancy.

Never a dull moment for you and the brothers. I don’t think the population in general realise how much hard work goes into the food they take for granted. Another great video.

@garymadden2656 I did to ! I remember dipping amd my grandad amd uncle made a metal floor with hydronic lift ....and they all slid in together. I thought that was amazing back then 🤣 still would still be useful now!🤣🤣

Spaining means taking the lambs off there mothers. And these sheep had two lambs each (twins) they stay closer to home rather than go to a fell. Hope this helps

I'm like you I'd work sheep all day everyday. Geat drone work gathering in. Lovely shot of sheep coming under the bridge. Does the pen the diptup is in run back into the tup when the sheep are dripping dry?
@shanecroke7682 Yes when we put the dipping tub in last year we put little Grove so the dip runs back into the tub 👌

Those field entrances are tight for your machinery. Do you ever rebuild them to be a bit wider for the bigger kit that you run nowadays compared when they were built to horse and cart sizes ?

Where is the guards for your PTO I had a cousin killed with a PTO with no guards take care you have to be careful xx
Why do you bother having sheep?No sooner than you’ve taken them back to the Fells than you have to bring them home again. Never a moment when you can relax.
Guards there chain has either come off or not been put on

These are twins that are only on pasture land close to farm. When you have sheep, you need to shepherd them and tend to their needs 😉😁 I could work with sheep every day if I could. 😄🥰 Sheep are a good chunk of our income
