I can't do AHAs. At all. Not even the baby ones like mandelic. Even PHAs wear down my skin eventually. These more gentle ingredients, like sugar cane, apple, and even protease (in the Round Lab Dokdo toner), are much better, consistent, gentle exfoliators for my skin.

    • @RandyandCyndi

This toner with PHA and Heartleaf is very gentle. I too have trouble with those you mentioned. It's cheap and works like a reg toner bonus your makeup has longer wear time. I use it in the morning and then I use the mild soothing toner maybe A Propolis. I never feel any bad dryness or tightness.

The Abib heartleaf toner is also fantastic. I initially used it just for calming my skin when it was irritated or if it had any scratches or marks to heal. But I've recently started using it for diy masking, and it's even better than I expected. The hydration really comes out when using it for masking, and it makes my skill feel so soft and hydrated, and smooths out the texture on my dry skin.

Hi Kelly I might give heartleaf a look, as redness is my primary concern (rosacea and eczema). I LOVE centella (it just works really well for me) and I like propolis, but I found mugwort did nothing for my skin. The anti inflammatory benefits of heartleaf sound like they may be worth a try. Despite having super dry/mature skin I don't mind a watery toner as a first step toner and tend to layer them a couple of times, prior to moving onto more hydrating toners and essences. That super gentle exfoliation you talked about is something I love about K beauty toners - just enough to keep the pores a bit clearer without aggravating my highly reactive skin. I've tried a few of them and have had good success using them as I described above. I can use PHAs, a lower percentage BHA or Mandelic acid once or twice a week without my skin hating me, but this type of super gentle exfoliating product I can use daily and with consistent use get good results with. I also like a lotion or emulsion step in the warmer months, when I can't use the really rich/buttery creams my skin normally loves. The extra step can boost a less rich moisturiser (more suited to warmer weather) and really help with hydration even on my super dry skin. I'll keep these suggestions in mind for my next K beauty order. Best wishes.
ps I tried the skin1004 enriched probio moisturiser (in the same range as the serum you showed in a short video recently). It has a texture very reminiscent of a snail moisturiser, but it has been good for my skin in these warmer months - it's very hydrating. It won't be rich enough for my severely dry skin in the colder months, but I think combo dry to somewhat dry would enjoy it. x

I'm so happy to hear the Probio Cica cream is working for you in Summer, I know you have very picky dry skin!

  • @luskaneseprince

In Korea to this day, when you purchase skincare items in stores, you might be offered a whole set of products from the same skincare "line", where they have like, let's say a centella asiatica as their key ingredient, and the set contains a toner, essence, serum, lotion and moisturizer (or a similar combo, sometimes as a travel size set). Now of course it's mainly a marketing strategy that only has one product that they actually want you to purchase and use (let's say a really highly rated serum), and the rest are just "filler products", to tempt you to buy more and feel like you have been given a really good deal.
Now I used to think it was redundant and kind of related to that 10-step skincare routine nonsense, but over the years I have noticed two things: my skin seems to really enjoy when I apply different consistencies and thicknesses of what is essentially the same product, because they are formulated to fit together really well. And so, now matter how I try to fight it (because I want the benefits of several "key" ingredients at once), it's just a fact that my face looks and feels way better after just using products from the same skincare line. Second, I also realized that for my sensitized combination skin, using both a lotion and a moisturizer at the same routine was a genius move. If I only apply the lighter lotion, some parts of my face start feeling tight in a matter of an hour, but if I apply a moisturizer all over my face, my chin and nose start drowning and pushing oil out. The solution has been to put lotion on my oilier areas and moisturizer on my drier areas, and boom, that really solved the problem.
So as much as I would like to criticize the marketing behind such "skincare line releases", I honestly can't help but admit that there IS something to it that just. Works. I'm now really intrigued of trying that Anua toner and lotion combo... maybe their sunscreen would really complement the set?
