I'm 57 and a former pro extreme sports athlete. YES I went through the same process...comfy boots with no protection in a fall. I ended up with the Gaerne Enduro boots. Love them...yes there was a learning process to the feeling, or lack of, to shift and brake etc...I also had to adjust both the levers a bit in the gear and brake. Once I rode the brake on the interstate and didnt' feel my boot riding the brake and ruinded the rotor and brake calipers and pads..so yeah I def learned to have a process in learning how to ride in boots..now it's like I can do it my sleep no worries. YOu have to protect your feet, ankles and lower legs.. #1 injury in ADV and moto riding. Ive spent last 25 yrs in healthcare and diagnostic imaging and the foot bones and knees are worth protecting. I had to to have comofortable boots for my moto camping in Baja also. I love my Gaerne Enduro Fastbacks

@@kee7678 do you think the Tech 7 is adequate or not enough?

I'm 57 and ride mostly enduro. I use a full MX boots, currently in a Sidi Crossfire TA with Forma Predator 2.0 on deck for spring, but I have favorite "ADV boot" it is the Falco Adventour II, I posted a look at them on my other channel "PaiN's Rides". I wore Tech7's for a while, I never got seriously injured, but I'd had some very painful incidents in them and was never impressed with the protection or quality. The other thing with all "Tech" boots is they are sponges... the slightest spray of water and you'll feel it inside the boot.
