I don't fully agree on the openness of Nostr vs API limitations, as Nostr relays also can limit their access, and a service such as Imgur can also decide to be fully free/open or not. so that is not in the protocol, but up to the provider. Anyhow, I hope we can see more abundance and sharing thanks to decentralization.

That's true but I think nostr's openness comes from a combination of three factors:
(1) nostr relays are very easy to spin up
(2) thus there are hundreds of them and more people spin up relays all the time
(3) the default settings of most relay software doesn't filter out very many things
Those factors make nostr very open by comparison with its competitors.
