Thanks to you, I created my own local Nextcloud installation. I was never motivated enough to move away from samba, but now my iPhone integrates well in my workflow!
I *love* Nextcloud videos and seeing how people use different plugins and integrate this into their daily workflow. Look forward to seeing more. Great video and thanks 😊
This is super cool! I might use that Forms thingy for my thesis survey! Overall nice to see some decent open source competition to Microsoft and Google :)
Great video! I think that what one should ask himself is - WHY? I mean that, managing your on instances of email program, google drive and other stuff like managing tasks or notes ( maybe we can replace JIRA ? ) requires a lot of effort. If one of those servers/services/php code go down, having issues or lacking a feature that you need - well, its up to you to handle this. So, you will have to intest most of time on supporting this massive framework and probably, and probably being few features behind from the software everyone else use. Why? I guess that it can be : 1. you really care about your data and privacy, 2. you want total control and will be happy to extend the tools you have and that's cool 3. you don't have a better use for your time.
The pricing scheme on Linode is incomprehensible and the prices seem absurdly steep. What am I missing? Id love to ditch Dropbox, Google Drive, and iClod for NextCloud, Collabora, and Linode, but why is it so hard to find a simple and clear step-by-step on how you actually do that and what exactly you need from Linode? I work in professional graphics, including comics, and I need around 2 TB cloud storage with my instance of NextCloud. I have one partner who will need access to those graphics. Would be need his own subscription with Linode?
Hi, first of all thanks for sharing your expertise. Especially with nextcloud I'm considering using FILES to manage my local archive when installing TRUENAS, because I want to manage my Doc's repository using tags, in a similar way as programs like Darktable our Davinci resolve do with their related files and I think it can be done in NEXTCLOUD. The problem I have is that I am a kind of (advanced) low profile user, who can follow instructions but can't solve problems by myself and if I understood well, NEXTCLOUD will include the files inside it's database, so I wonder how could I retrieve them in a eventually database corruption. Has sense this concern? Is there any Linux software I could use for this? I found Tagspaces, is it worth it, any other suggestions? I hope you can help me? Anyway thanks a lot
Hi nice presentation. However when you are using it as a cloud based platform there is apparently some drawbacks no collabora and no PDF with only office. So could it be compared with google drive ? In addition to this there is some comestic bugs. Never been able to install OCR apps on NC25 and there is bugs in the photo editor. Of course you can use the community to try to solve but it is time consuming. Anyway soma apps are OK. Regards. Guy

Great video. I have a question. I'd love to install a server with Nextcloud in my house and another server in the house of my parents. There is any way to sync both servers? How to do that? My grandfather live in another country. I'd love to put another server in that other country too. (I don't have that much money to buy right now 3 computers but I'd love to know anyway). It's possible to have 3 different servers, in different places and to sync between them? the app of the smartphone could auto detect the nearest to upload or download files? Thank you.
Not that I would know of. You could try doing this yourself using 1. a software to replicate your storage volume where everything Nextcloud needs is stored and 2. a database replication solution. I really don't know if Nextcloud's internal architecture would handle data changing in the background very well, but this is the only solution I can think of. However, it might be quite hard to find solutions for replicating storage and DB, since most solutions I know assume you want to replicate entire clusters. GlusterFS for example has a geo-replication feature, but this replicates a cluster consisting of multiple nodes, and you only want a single node in each location. Similarly, MySQL-Cluster-Replication replicates a MySQL-Cluster between locations, but each location would again have it's own Cluster consisting of multiple nodes.
@@InterFelix Thank you for your answer ... and no, I couldn't find anything "Open" / "free" to solve this in nextcloud. I just like to have in only 2 computers ...
I had nextcloud on my shared hosting with cpanel and after installing this my nextcloud completely stopped working so not not loading and I do not have ssh access :(
How do you backup that data? is it in raid? i'd like to make remote automatic backups, so i could have to servers in parallel at different locations and if one is not available it would not be a problem, idk where to start though...
please tell me about spam mgmt for email? out of box & what u recommend changing? can u get notifications on your phone if u login to your nextcloud mail from brave in your phone or is there a nextcloud mobile app or ?
I'm wondering that too. I just moved the apps from my rpi3 to my rpi4 , and I want to give the rpi3 a new job, like Nextcloud or maybe Discourse server.
is it possible, through the mail client, to display mails in text mode only without making use of html or any other? This is not possible in OWA (for any reason idk).
Dear TechHut, nice video thank you ! I have one issue with this nextcloud, I'm an Administrator and I share some files with User1, User2, User3 etc. When some of the Users made any changes on one xlsx or doc file with OnlyOffice in the cloud, I saw wrong information in the Activity section there wrote Administrator has edited this file not User 1 for example. Do you have any ideas how can I fix the problem ? This is fresh Installation on NC 20 with UCS VMware image. Thank you in advance. Greetings from Bulgaria!
Would love to use this as an alternative to OneDrive, however it doesn't seem to support playback of MOV files from browser, has anyone been able to make this work?
$1 million usd ! Just kidding. It depends on size of the Linode instance. I think the smallest is around $7-10 usd, but as you add CPU cores, memory, and storage the price goes up.
Is not very wise to run nextcloud on a cloud provider, the cost of storage alone will drain your wallet. You’d be better just paying a OneDrive or Google Drive suscriptiom at this point lol
they're using linode to host it, same thing as making your own local server, and nextcloud is basically a way to make it easier to do all of this stuff it's the same thing as making a server and hosting it yourself
Nextcloud News app doesnot look good.. technically it works as it shoud be, but from rss reader today its very nice not to only shows what RSS provides (title plus couple of first lines of the article) but to parse article itself, and i dont find any options to do that. tt-rss. in contrary, are very good in that.. and many closed-sources web rss-readers - services of course, like inoreader for example.

Great review! Is automatic backup still in beta? How are you handing backups now? Manually? Thanks again!
We run on cloud and on premise servers with apps on devices 😊
I've never got the Collabora online app to work :'(
The next level is to ditch that and only access terminal apps via ssh
Working on the command line has only made me more appreciative towards a well crafted GUI. Drag and click is nice, admit it.

This is confusing. You are running a cloud, Nextcloud in another cloud, Linode?

it's the same thing as making a server and hosting it yourself
is this apps available only on linode server? I am using Qloud server and none of these apps are showing in it.
you have to install them
you can install Nextcloud on your local hardware (PC/rpi) or host it in the cloud. Just download and install it..
Superb way to be able to ditch Microsoft and google services even more
👀 I might ditch google soon ✨
