I’m going to use this as a control system for my diy draw bot I built, it doesn’t know if it has a spindle or a pen so as long as the z axis picks up and lowers with the gcode then it should work out just fine. This will make things much more convenient, thanks for the video 🍻
Wow…..about to order parts for dyi CNC router build. This gives me something to work towards. Love the idea of using old (not to old) phone for sending gcode to machine. Might look into a Bluetooth module for arduino CNC shield. Thanks
I’m curious, I have seen several videos where there is a conglomeration of dongles and cables to connect these devices. You can buy specialty cables on line for very cheap. For example a cable that has usb “type c” on one end and a “micro” usb on the other. What it the reason for the adapters?
You are right, you can buy a single OTG cable from USB C to USB mini. It has to be an OTG cable though not a standard USB. The reason is that an OTG cable or adaptor tells the phone it is the host and allows for a 5v output from the phone / tablet. On standard usb cables the phone will not output 5v and will be in slave mode. I use an adaptor for 2 reasons, it allows me to plug in a usb memory stick so that i can import the gcode files to the phone and it allows the phone to be powered / charged at the same time. A straight OTG cable won't allow either of these.
Hello, can you suggest a specific OTG hub for this kind of application? I am very interested in the possibility of charging the phone while using the data, but I never purchased a OTG hub before, so I'm not sure for what kind of model, brand or specifications should I look for. Thank you for this video
Really liked your video. I need some assistance though if you could. I previously have used ugs to send progs and run. However I have the grbl plus android app and would like to use it. I can setup and programs but the machine is hitting soft limits but shouldn't be. How do I adjust the $20 settings etc assigned to the software. Or even better how do I reset my soft limits. I never had the issue with ugs
hi, I would ask you a question. I have an old CNC Fanuc Sigma VC1000 with the same serial port 25 pin DB25 and I would monitoring this machine using an ESP32. Not only monitoring but also send it the gcode. In your opinion how can I do that? For monitoring I mean sending the machine some code for example D600 and the machine could answer me about the status: stop, word, allarm, type allarm. Sending gcode I don't know yet.
Been using the free version while setting up my CNC and I really like it, it's a nice interface. More than likley I'll upgrade if it continues to go well over the next few projects. I've been running it from my phone, should I put it into airplane mode while running jobs? Thanks
I have just bought one of the Longer Ray5 engraver. I have loads of designs saved as SVG asI have a Cricut die cutter. Is there a way of using SVG designs with the engraver? If so please is there a video to show me HOW?
thanks the video helped me set up my homemade cnc. i do have one issue thou. the direction of movements are reversed. i want it to go x- and it moves x+ this is on all axis. did you have any issue with this.
This is a setting in the actual control board. If you type $$ into the gcode box on the 4th screen you can see all the settings on the screen. The setting $3={number}. The number can be seen in the table and that sets directions www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.diymachining.com/downloads/GRBL_Settings_Pocket_Guide_Rev_B.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwie0s-I9K78AhVWg1wKHdsEB90QFnoECCgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2_vixn-I1ENnWUVo0ayhkl
matt me again. i had to stop a program cause my dimensions were off in easel. how to i remove the gcode so i can run another program. my text i made in easel was alot bigger then i dimensioned in easel
Sorry, only USB C can handle charging and OTG functions at the same time through the port. Phones with wireless charging can still charge via wireless whilst using OTG
It looks neat. But play store says not available for this device as was written for an earlier version of Android. Someone posted a link below to get around that, but it doesn't work for me. Tablet is a Lenovo M10 plus gen 3 running Android 13. Suspect may be related to the huge restrictions Google have added in recent versions which seriously limit what a app can access outside it's own local file space. Android used to be a nice little OS once .... UPDATE: Says same on Google Pixel 2 running Android 11. Developer says cause is the changes Google have made to file system access. He may update it. I can sympathise, have pulled my apps off Google Play Store for similar reasons. Doubtless Google have their reasons but I feel they've broken Android - it was a nice open OS, now it isn't, it's now following the iPhone model.
Hi, I'm still using this on latest version of Android and can still find it on the play store here play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.gorest.grblcontroller
@@Wallworkshop Oh it turns out I can't find it because my phone isn't compatible with this app! I'll try it on a different device. Many thanks for posting tho 👍
Thanks much for this. Hoping someone can help here - what are the commands for sending the spindle to the previously defined XYZ position? Nevermind - found it . G90 X0 Y0 Z0 . If that helps anyone.
I seem to be having the same problem... It is in USB mode, and the cable is an Arduino one, so definitely not charging only. Yet, the buttons still don't work. I'm afraid my phone simply reads the CNC as an input, and so isn't able to send info. Tried to change the USB settings on the phone, but it doesn't allow it...
im having the same issue its not allowing me to download on my galaxy s23 i tried that url and when i hit install it shows a list of devices to choose but cant choose my phone tried a moto g as well and didnt work help

Finally something interesting for cnc lovers using grbl. Thanks Matt
Home CNC machining is so much easier now than 15 years ago.
Great video and brilliant to know it can be done so simply with an android phone or tablet!😁
Good explanation of the application
You can click and hold the quick step buttons, that will save current slider value to settings
Thank you very much for this excellent tutorial. This is exactly what I was looking for my DIY CNC.

Great video!! Love the detail, keep up the good work
Very useful tutorial, many thanks for it. I try it soon, I am going to make my own CNC milling machine. I am looking foward to it.

Not really, it runs in the back groundbreally well and doesn't use much resource

You can download Carbide Create V6 and convert your .svg files into tool paths

what type of micro controler is the machine using? Is it arduino or a breakout board?
It has a Cronos Tools board but this should work with any GRBL control board

Hello
Would the OTG hub be able to charge a tablet with USB type C while using OTG communication with the CNC 3018 router board?

Yes, both functions, charging and OTG can be done at the same time with a USB C connection.

What about wireless, my controller (makerbase) seems to have an aerial?
It can do if it's bluetooth

Yes, very stable

Funciona para las impresoras 3d
I will see later 😀
Bravo 👏
What is the name and model of this offline controller
Added hc05 bluetooth module is more convenient
How stable is the connection. My board can't take the module or I would have given it a try
hello, which software do you use to make the g-code?
I mainly use Fusion360 but also occasionally use Vcarve and Easel
This method works in iOS?
Sadly, there isn't an ios version
This arduino app is not available in India.
Great 👍
Hi sir, do you have any idea why the button is still not working after i connected to otg?
Did you set the usb connection type in the settings menu? Also try different usb leads if you can as some leads are charge only.

How to activate the homing function with limit switches?
$21=1?
$22=1 for homing on, $21 sets the hards limits, $20 sets the soft limits. You may also need to set $23 to set the homing mask direction
Aha ok, tnx👍😊
wow
