Something I like about Oryx is how he cares even for his sons even after they failed him. Nokris still had a statue alongside his brother Crota. But even Crota, who failed Oryx, begged for too much and was assaulted by the Vex. When he died Oryx stopped his conquest, turned to our system and invaded because he still cared. The love hive have for each other is different from ours, sure. But there is still something respectable about a father bringing everything to the table to avenge his family.
I love how the Twins are 1) an unusual phenomenon even amongst the Hive and 2) they look like the Hive Wizard versions of Pyramid Head (which is, in itself, an iconic look).
unraveling the universe and then weaving it back again behind them also seems to be how Hive FTL travel works. That seems to be the reason the twins were supposed to be on the prow and stern of the ship.
They were my personal favorite new entries when the original King's Fall first dropped, love them both. Also the way Oryx doted on them when they were little is strangely adorable, in a brutal Hive kind of way.
Considering Crota and Nokris are both Strike Bosses, they needed to ramp the complexity for the raid. It made sense for both of them to be together in the encounter.
One thought just had right now - for an ascended Hive to truly die, they have to die in their throne world. Or can it be any throne world? Because we killed Oryx's daughters in his throne world, not their own. Or are they bound to his world as well?
I love the sword logic. Why ? Cause it sounds like this awe inspiring and terrifying concept which should make one feel helpless. That is of course until the hive ends up getting vibe checked by 5 very confused newlights with blue rocket launchers and one veteran running G-horn.
the central tenant of "I claim my right to exist through sheer will, determination, and by murdering someone else to prove I deserve it more" is so unbelievably metal.
Comprehensive coverage of KF sounds great! The Books of Sorrow are my favorite part of the entire Destiny canon; even just listening to you (and your mellifluous voice) read your way through them would be the perfect way to drift off to sleep...
Kinda wish we could see characters in game be able to use all their power. Ir Halak and Ir Anuk in the raid pale in comparison compared to what they could do in the lore.
the way I see it, you as the player have cut the support network out from under them, so they didn't really have time or resources to do anything beyond charge a spell to kill you. and I mean hell, if I were able to generate an aura of actual immortality around myself, and cast a spell that insta-killed literally anything it's targeted at, I wouldn't really care that it had a 2 minute cast time either.
I really like the metaphor of the hammer and spindle and how it expands on the idea of strength. In Hive culture, strength and survival is dictated by constamt death which intuitively, most of said death is achieved through raw might, bu constantly succeeding in combat and superceding your adversary. The hammer. Having the strongest strike to deal the death you require to sustain yourself. The Sisters however choose the spindle. A weapon of much less ferocity on face value, but it is cyclical, eternal in its spin, binding and weaving you into sorrow and woe. It is not the strength of ferocity, but the strength of patience and atrition. The strength of intellect in tandem with physicality. (A wit that only one other such as Savathun could understand.) Their competence comes from the consistency in their strength. However like Crota, to us, the guardian they are equal fools. For we understand it is neither the hammer nor spindle that is the greater weapon, but the ability to wield both and none. Our malleability gives us the resilience to survive Crota's heavy slaughter, to be the spindle that still spins no matter how he cuts our thread nor how many times he try. It gives us the raw power to overload that of the Sisters. The power to overload their spindle as they must spin faster to match out ferocity.
Finally getting to these months late, I really appreciate this look back at older raids. Can't help but wonder if after a few years of exotic quests we see encounters on the First Disciple raids differently.
Hearing about how they created an annihilator totem gave me the idea of a what if they had created one in that final boss arena in the raid and during the last two encounters it would periodically activate and somebody on the fire team would then have to go and run underneath it for 10 seconds to deactivate it or the whole squad wipes. That would have added a whole new level of hectic to that raid especially on master
Hey Byf, i was thinking about strand lately and how it's depicted as the fabric that binds everything together. Seeing as Ir Anuk and Ir Halak are called weavers and unravelers, do you think their powers are based on a very basic form of Strand unknown to the hive? This also applies to the power to Take. Taking something and "reweaving" something into a desired version sounds very in line with Strand.
I think some raid weapon lore would be nice to hear. I don’t know if they can all be put in one video I think that those were the first times we had some type of confirmation that oryx attack the other destiny races. I always thought that that was pretty cool
Wait Mr Byfe. Did eris learn weaving in some sensefrom Alak? Think of the intro to duality. She "wove us into calluses mind. She basically made his conscious a physical realm. Maybe hot to the same powe but does eris morn, our favorite goth space wizard know a form of weaving?
What makes you think they died, Byf? In the BoS they invent oversouls and are come upon by their father as they die over and over again in the Ascendant Place, all while not dying a true death. ie they're probably still alive if we didn't even see their oversouls and take them out.
Biggest point that everyone missed from the lore. EVERY last one of us has been wrong about the orientation of the arena. "She who stands ahead at the prow of the ship of Oryx," confirms that the left side (from our perspective)of the arena is actually the FRONT of the ship, because Ir Halak stands at its prow! How counterintuitive is that?!
A friend of mine said that new dialogue was dropped this week in Expeditions. Something about Eido speaking to Spider about Rasputin. Wondering if anything that's said is new info.
our enemies: literal interdimensional deities that can bend reality and existence to their will us guardians: hippity hoppity your essence which we will make into a gun is now my property
so uh, is it just me or do the abilities described by the Sisters' lore cards sound a whole hell of a lot like the Strand abilities described by the trailers and marketing material for Lightfall?
here's a question for anyone willing to answer; Why do the sisters (and subsequently the Warpriest and maybe even Golgoroth) die their final deaths onboard the dreadnaught, their father's throne world? Is it mentioned somewhere that they linked their throneworld(s) together, theirs to his or maybe they share one and linked it together. Because if not, they're very much still alive and I think Savathun would be most pleased to help them mess with hive magics at our expense.
i believe it has something to do with the sword logic, in oryx's throne world that is the law of nature - us guardians become more powerful than our enemies, which means our enemies no not deserve to exist anymore. our counter to the sword logic is the bomb logic, using our light in a way that can conquer literally any other known law of nature
Oryx family was literally stacked we only beat him bc we killed his son he was really nerfed just showing how big he is shows his power bruh is like 30 feet tall
Easy. Hive logic! They wouldn’t just want to kill us, they would want us to fight back, and if we won, we deserved to win because we were stronger. The Vex collective would absolutely pull something like trying to wipe us from reality.

@@xvx_k1r1t0_xvxkillme7 so wait, you want to not have Byf continue with giving you lore?

It may be a long while, but I’m looking forward to Byf’s next project focusing on Fellwinter and his connection to Rasputin.
Completely agree!
