  • Here's my one year review on one of my all time favorite saddles, the Selle SMP TRK. In this video I will go into some detail about how this saddle can prevent Perineal nerve damage.

    I've watched over 15 videos on these saddles, many on the TRK model, including many pro bike fitters videos.
    Yours is the only one that gave info on (demonstrated) the hip rotation; the forward dip reason, and the width history.
    I'm buying a TRK ! Thanks

    Very informative video. I bought a near new smp trk medium and found it to be well comfy. So I bought the narrower Hybrid for my fixie assuming it would be faster. Bad mistake - it's like sitting on the sharp end of a plank just like all my other saddles. So I measured my sit bones by sitting on a sheet of kitchen foil. 140mm so yes the trk medium is the correct size for me. Now I've ordered a second trk for the fixie. I clocked up 60 miles today (with breaks) on the good bike with no discomfort. So try an SMP but make sure you try one that's wide enough. The TRK is a very good starting point.

    I have now ordered my second Selle for my winter bike. 100 mile rides and no discomfort whatsoever! No pressure on the prostate area and really comfortable. Recommended highly.....and only £36

    Having owned / ridden about 30 different saddles throughout My cycling life, I've learned to divide saddles into the following spectra:
    Saddles that are:
    - Downright torture devices for the rider's entire bottom.
    - Okay: not perfect, but cause no pain in any given area on most rides. Examples: Fizik Nisene Sport, ToPeak Allay, Selle Italia Pro Link Trans Am, ISM PR3.0 (the latter feels rather awkward in use, particularly if you're nor used to it).
    - Are horrible for the seat bones, but okay for the soft tissue between the thighs (example: SDG i-Beam, Charge Spoon. The latter appears very comfy at first, but becomes unbearable on seat bones 30-40km. into the ride).
    - Are remarkably comfy on the seat bones, but perfectly insufferable on the soft tissue between the thighs. Examples: Ergon SMC-4 Comp Gel.
    - Are way too wide, way too soft, way too ugly and awkward. Examples: most Dutch bike / classic urban saddles.
    - Are way to narrow, way too hard and uncomfortable.
    - Are fairly comfy when wearing chamois thighs, but not so much without.
    All of the categories above are a compromise in feel. Also, remarkably, almost all of that saddles (ca. 98% of saddles made today) are designed to have the rider sit ON there saddle.
    ... then, there's Selle SMP - more specifically, some models, which put the rider IN, rather than on, them. An entirely different, vastly superior feel, especially if the width and padding also fit the rider's geometry.
    There's only two issues with Selle SMP saddles:
    1. They are expensive, particularly higher-tier ones.
    2. Black versions of many saddles are NOT animal-friendly. The colour versions (microfibre colour) are significantly more expensive and very rare. Not only that - the new stock (2018 version) of the microfibre-cover SMPs are impossible to find both in physical shops and online ones, even in 2020! And neither Selle SMP, nor retailers, are interested in renewing stock with the current generation non-leather saddles. The burgeoning vegan cyclist community is thus forced to steer clear of the most comfortable bicycle saddles in present existence by far. Too bad, Selle SMP!

    Thank you for this video! I ordered one earlier today and was just trying to confirm I made the right choice. You're video has me hopeful. I'm 6'3" 225lbs and ride about 3x a week. I get numb and sore right around mile 13 each time. By 20 or 30 miles I'm suffering big time. It's limited me to pushing past my two longest rides of 50 miles. With fall coming soon I have a goal of doing my first century. It won't be possible with any of the saddles I've bought so far so I'm hoping this saddle is my savior. I average low 19 to 20mph so I'm a pretty aggressive rider so I hope this saddle isn't too wide but I know a saddle is very personal to each persons physique. Anyway, thanks again for the review. I'm excited to try it when it arrives in a few days!

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jose Aguilar it didn't work for me. At first I thought it would but despite the nice cushioning it's just too wide so it was causing major chafing. I ended up upping my budget and getting a Selle Italia Max Flight Gel Flow with Vanox Rails. It's amazing! Pricy but exactly what my body needed.

    Hi, thanks for the informative video. There is something I would have hoped, though: is it possible that you would go around the saddle in close view, so that we could see the saddle from all different angles? A video shows all the contours so much better than a couple of photos ever can.

  • @cliffcox7643
    @cliffcox7643 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Besides the reasons you gave for the front slant, that is sliding forward more easily, I feel the slanted nose give you more to push against in the seated sprint position. Mine's the full carbon version though.

  • @mrbungle8493

    This saddle is wider just because is for trekking bikes, where you are sitted at 60 degrees. SMP makes also saddles for your kind of bike, where your angle is 45 and these are smaller.

    • @BicycleAdventurers
      @BicycleAdventurers  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MexiTaxi66 Sorry for the late reply. This model is the trekking model, designed for hybrid bikes and mountain bikes. However, I use it on two of my road bikes as none of the road bike saddles made today seem to work for me. I rode a 50 mile ride on this saddle recently and so far so good. I hope this answers your question.

    I would like to ask You , what is Your weight , height , and of possible what is the width of Your sitting bones????? I was considering buying saddle like SMP , SQ Labs or even Brooks . Currently I have Charge Spoon saddle , it is ok , but it has over 10.000 km over , and I assume that it is giving away , and it is not comfortable as It was ,when I boot it. So any comment would be very helpfull.Thanks .....

      midwestoutdoorsman I don't have any experience with the SMP Extra, however I would suspect they both perform about the same with the Extra being a little narrower. The Extra probably has a longer break in period as most narrower saddles do.

    • @k1dicarus
      @k1dicarus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most saddles should always be angled flat. You can try and angle it slightly nose down, for some combinations of rider and saddle this helps. Nose up is never good.

    Perineal, not perennial. SMPs come in different widths -- there's a chart on their web page that matches body size to saddle width. And, PLEASE learn not to rock when you're holding the camera!
