Great video with insightful commentary. Other than attending classes - both at a community course and at University - my comprehensible input is based on reading and listening to podcasts/audio books. In terms of the listening, I do something a little different to what you are demonstrating in your video. I typically listen to the podcast multiple times. Most of the post casts are difficult for me to understand - I usually only get the gist of what the conversation is about.....but I also will read along to the podcasts when I get the chance. For example, I might listen to the podcast in the car a couple of times - to and from work. Then I will at home follow along with the transcript of the physical book. I might then listen to again in the car. I'm always amazed at how the last two steps improve my understanding of what's going on. The other part of my routine is my ANKI deck - which is the 5000 most common words and one exercise in Duo - although the Duo is out of habit and only really do it as a warm up and to keep track of how long I've learning - (did I say habit). Sort of similar. Listen and follow or highlight all the verbs with maybe the next word then listen and follow. To pick up the gist.
I enjoy listening to audio books even though they are usually too advanced for me. I quite like going to sleep listening to a short (maybe 20 minute) short story in the language, but of course it has to be something in a mellow voice so it doesn't interfere with sleep. I've no idea how effective or not this is (I find myself listening to the voice rather than understanding the words), but its quite a pleasant way to get another few minutes into daily input.

Duude when you entered the shop I asked out loud "is that Lidl?", and it was Lidl!! I spend too much time in Lidl if I recognize it just by the shelf arrangement....

Glad to see you living your advice! Since your last video, I stopped getting input only when I had a few hours to dedicate. My hours have skyrocketed just from getting podcasts crammed in whenever I can. Definitely not as much acquisition as when I get to watch but it’s still been extremely helpful.
Been whining to see this one for a while so thanks for putting it together and giving us some great examples of how we can get more input without carving out more time! Looking forward to the next one.
All for you Jeff! I definitely find my level of engagement better if the content isn’t too far above my level as I’m deliberately listening to it rather than trying to follow along. Every day is different but this gives you a general idea 👍

Another good video. Great to see how someone else fits immersion into their day. I do a variety of activities - podcasts, Anki ESK1 deck, some grammar (to assist recognizing patterns/syntax), reading, Dreaming Spanish, and Spanish Playground to name a few. I have taken some of your recommendations as well - listening while walking the dog or doing yard work. I also purchased the same headphones - I really like them when outside.
As for tracking - I am bit more in-depth. I chose to use some of Refold's layout - intensive, Free Flow, passive for listening/reading/watching. I also record grammar and ESK1 time. I use Toggl as my time tracker. Really helps to see how much exposure I am getting with the Spanish Language.

You've done a video on TH-cam channels that you recommend, but it would be cool to see a follow up video with any new channels you've found, *and* podcasts that you like, both for learners and for natives! :)

I get most of my listen on the way to work. I walk and take the train which allows for 90mins or so of listening. Mostly Italian podcasts and some Lingq stories. However, I have a trip coming soon to Portugal, so I am trying to crash course so Portuguese Benny Lewis style (fluent in 3 months).

1 - when you are listening to your language, do you pay attention to the big picture or every word you hear?
2- do you translate in your head when reading or listening ?
3- can you understand most of the content that you hear? if not , how long do you suppose it will take you to get to this level ?
Hey Endou, thanks for checking out the video. To be honest, if you understand this video then watch material for native speakers that you enjoy and can mostly understand. That will motivate you more to keep going rather than feeling you have to watch or listen to something in particular.
1. When I listen I usually am just listening because it is an interesting podcast on something and I don't worry about the words, though over time I find I do notice new things that before I wouldn't have noticed. I'm not deliberately trying to notice them though.
2. I don't translate. Or at least try not to. I generally try to just enjoy the content and if it's too hard I find something easier. Sometimes I hear something time and time again and still can't quite get the meaning so in those times I look it up. When I rely on translations I find my understanding is slower as in my head there is an extra step to get to the meaning
3. I almost always use stuff I can mostly understand. Sometimes if I am interested I can tolerate more ambiguity but if I don't understand enough I wont learn much. I also find grammar takes longer to acquire and so I need to listen or read easier things so that I don't worry about the meaning and the grammar is therefore more obvious to me.

Both. Watch stuff you enjoy when you can and listen to stuff all day every day when you can’t watch it. Obviously we all have lives so don’t beat yourself up when you have to be an adult with responsibilities. Personally I find that if I use content I mostly understand I don’t rely on translations as much and focus on acquisition rather than memorisation. It might not be as speedy but I don’t care if I am enjoying the content I am using. You do you so do what you enjoy
