    I’ve found this video to be the most helpful and informative out of the many Bambino Plus review videos on youtube, Kudos to you!
    When dialing in your espresso, do you aim for 18g in and 36g out in 30 seconds? And when specifically do you start the timer (when you press the double shot button, or when espresso first comes out?)
    Greatly appreciated!

    • @hotfroth
      @hotfroth  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! We’re stoked you enjoyed the video! 🙏
      Yes, that’s the classic 1:2 ratio 18g of coffee in (dry weight) to 36g of coffee out (wet weight). The time will be dictated by your grind and the exact point you stop the shot when programming your machine. And yes, hit the timer at the same time you press the double-shot button. 👍🏽
      Happy Brewing!

      No problem… Here is the link to the portafilter amzn.to/4bwqMI5 It’s an affiliate link and we get a small cut of any purchases that you make when you use it. We reinvest all of this back into the channel and really appreciate your support! 🙏

    Good video man ! What beans did you use and how fresh were they ? Looking for a good recc9mendation of beans for pure espresso. Cheers (from cane toad land)

      We were using ONA coffee from Canberra. They have a great range of single origin coffee that’s perfect for espresso. Little Italy Coffee Roasters here in Sydney also have delicious coffees for espresso - the Que Linda blend and Columbian single origin are awesome!
      They’ll even ship it up to the Land of the Banana for you 🤙🏽

    Hi, great video! I just got mine and it's being a little of a learning curve for me coming from my old Krups. So glad you mention the machine error with the automatic shot dosing I thought mine was defective 😂 I will try to program it. Two questions: are u using whole or low fat milk? I'm guessing whole. And second, I'd like to learn using the bottomless porta filter but I don't have a grinder, which one do you recommend on the less that $200 US dlr range? Thanks ! I love the Aussie accent 😊!

      Hi, thank you! 🙏… you’re right, we are using whole milk in the video. I just checked out Whole Latte Love and online coffee machine store in the US and the Breville Smart Grinder Pro is $199 !!!
      It’s a really great beginner grinder and has a wide range of settings.

    I just got a Bambino Plus and I'm relatively new to making espresso.
    You're setting the double cup to a 60g output with 18g dose, is that not really diluting the espresso?
    I read a lot about aiming for a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio, which you were close to for the single but not the double.

    • @hotfroth

      Thanks for your comment, and welcome to the awesome world of espresso!
      So, in our video, we wanted to follow the Breville recipe, from the Bambino Plus handbook and see how they came out.
      You’re right, their 60g extraction is too long in my opinion and can produce bitter, more caffeine derived flavours (depending on the roast) and yes it becomes diluted.
      Personally, I find running 18g espresso as double ristrettos (not splitting into two cups but letting both streams run into one cup) and extracting 30mls wet weight is delicious!

    • @MapleGoodness
      @MapleGoodness 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      thanks for the info! So if you actually wanted a higher volume "proper" espresso, how would you do that with the Bambino? Pull two individual shots?

    • @hotfroth
      @hotfroth  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MapleGoodness That’s correct, 18g of espresso in and aim for around 36g of espresso out (wet weight) that would give you a full espresso. You can experiment with different extraction times to suit your coffee beans and if you happen to be splitting your shot for two people, you may want to increase the extraction volume slightly more 👍🏽

    Hi I have one and love it - esp for the cost. Ditto the Smart Grinder Pro
    Just to be clear, when you're using the steamer in manual mode the temperature and froth settings are not in operation. The machine outputs maximum steam and you control the degree of aeration (frothiness) of the milk.
    The auto-purge is really clever and obviously it's worth pre-heating the portafilter with a dummy shot but both produce quite an amount of waste water which, if you don't collect it in a spare cup/jug/pot will soon fill the ridiculously small drip tray.
    Still this is a lovely machine which is worth persevering with and you'll soon be taking home-made coffee with you to work!

    Is there any reason to use the lower pressure settings for the steam wand? Especially considering how much lower the pressure output on a Breville is compared to a commercial machine. I feel like you wouldn’t want to steam with anything but the cappuccino function to ensure a proper whirlpool..

    • @hotfroth
      @hotfroth  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! We tried the medium milk texture setting for a latte/flat white and it worked pretty well at texturing that kind of milk and is probably an easier setting to use when first learning how to steam milk. You’re quite right though, the highest/cappuccino setting is definitely the more efficient and fastest option! 👍🏽

      @@hotfroth I have the Breville Bambino Plus in black truffle and I quite love it. I figured it would be a good idea to at least change the title so it would come up in the proper searches. I'm introducing my friend to Espresso and he's looking for readily accessible information cuz he's got little to no understanding of coffee at this point. Thank you haha

      Also, Breville is sold under the Sage brand in the UK and, I believe, elsewhere Europe (as a pre-existing Breville brand already had the rights to that name). So here in the UK this is a Sage Bambino Plus.

    I have the bambino plus (purchased 6 months from amazon) with a Baratza Encore Grinder, scale and all the bells and whistles, equipment. I also have a crema 54 mm bottomless porta filter/basket. My issue is I keep getting coffee spitting out of the bottom of porta filter all over the back of the machine and countertop when brewing single and/or double shot expresso. I tried the original porta filter that came with the machine as well, different grind size, same results. Any recommendations?

    • @hotfroth
      @hotfroth  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like a good setup!
      It could be the grind size is too fine, have you tried a coarser grind? The group head and shower-screen might also need a good clean, especially around the rubber seal that the portafilter sits against during brewing 👍🏽

    @Thesneakygrind Great review video mate! How would you compare the coffee that comes out of it compared to cafe quality i.e. its 95-99% of what you can get from any high street cafe like Starbucks or much better?

    • @hotfroth
      @hotfroth  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Good question. It depends a lot on the beans you’re using and probably more on the quality of grinder you choose. But if you nail those choices, dial your espresso in and practice making coffee heaps then you should get something that’s as good if not better than a cafe made coffee 💪🏽
