Never stop doing these, It's great to see new content for the classic consoles but it's quite daunting to sort through all the type of patches and several versions out there. And the fact that you always take the difficulty into account is also very appreciated.
LOVE this damn series!!! This is like more or less literally you telling people like me who love NES/SNES, but ain't super into gaming as much anymore, about a whole new world of games that we can relive our childhood again
I haven't looked at the romhack scene in near 20 years but these videos always make me want to revisit it. So many cool ideas from tons of amazingly talented fans.
I’ve been getting into Romhacks (mainly enhancement patches) lately and have been loving them. I started out with Pokémon enhancement patches and I’ve been craving more, thank you posting more (:
Oh my God, I think Beattles Adventures in Pepperland just made my day. Thanks for sharing these awesome hacks. Also, Deadpool cutscenes in a rom hack, holy cow man talk about fan service to the 11s
This is a great list of hacks. Some really impressive effort shown here. Especially the Beatles and Deadpool hacks. Basically new games from the ground up. This is really cool thanks for sharing. I always look forward to your videos. I hope you have a great rest of your day
Castlevania: Holy Relics from the last video is a gem, one of the best full romhacks I have played. (By full hack I mean all new levels and in this case new items and new mechanics, new level select rather than progressive). Great game, highly recommend to anyone who loves the Castlevania NES games.
Add the improved controls hack to it and you have the equivalent of CV4 on the NES. A fantastic experience to expand on the goodness that was the first vania game.
Always like seeing these. You take difficulty into account and you often pull up hacks from games that aren't the usual Mario/Zelda/etc. games. I was glad to see the hack for The Guardian Legend show here too!
I know it's not a romhack, but the NES/Famicom "demake" of Pac-Man Championship Edition that came out in 2020 as part of Namco Museum is the best version of Pac-Man CE and an impressive technical feat. It actually runs on NES hardware and the music is phenomenal. I think everyone that enjoys arcade/retro/score attack games should try it at least once.
I love these labor of loves. Thank goodness for the rom hacking community....that SM Ultimate looks great. I visit 3mix every so often. Might add ultimate to my list
I found a Streets of Rage 2 hack yesterday called SoR2 Double X I think it was called. My goodness, it changed the base game completely. It was quite a thing. I know some rom hacks really do make an old game in a completely new one, but I just didn't expect to see it in this particular one.
Heavily recommend Zelda 2: Amida's Curse of you haven't looked into it. I couldn't believe how authentic and great it felt playing that. It's so good that I no longer hunger for another Zelda 2 style game. Nintendo couldn't've topped it themselves. Random battles eliminated in favor of using that memory for new dungeon layouts.
Seconding this. They really explored the limits of the Zelda 2 engine to make something with more of a focus on exploration and puzzles over boosted combat difficulty. It's totally unique among Z2 hacks.
@@OzymandiasWasRight you will not regret it. One of the most enjoyable experiences I had with a ROM hacking years. I think there's a case to be made that if we're evaluating ROM hacks for feeling like enhanced original games (without going overboard), this one is one of the best.
You should do a video on the plethora of “DX” style hacks for Gameboy games. All they do is add color, but boy do they make a world of difference. Three to check out in particular are Kirby Dream Land DX, Metroid II Colorization, Pokemon Red Full Color and Mario Land 2 DX. Keep up the quality content!
Rockman No Constancy is a masterpiece. So good I’m convinced it was the catalyst responsible for Rockman 9’s development. Quick Man stage is an experience with the best 8bit chiptune remix I’ve heard. Need to replay. Also thanks for the scoop. I wasn’t even aware of a newer patch and revamped hard mode (the initial release is brutal) 👍
Hey Drunk, if you are into NES RPGs I heartily recommend Radia Senki: Reimeihen, it's a nice little game no one seems to talk about and it's not grind-heavy at all. It has an English translation so you can play it anyway you can.
@@OmniMirror you're welcome! I hope you like it, it's an action RPG in which you can give commands to your party members during battle, I love that game.
@@geraq0 Just finished it over the weekend! It's short if you don't want to commit weeks to a single RPG, and like you said, it isn't grind heavy at all. One downside is that I recommend an item or spell guide for information on what they do. I was a bit too afraid to pull the trigger on spells other than the obviously named ones and played through the whole thing without using any attack magic.
@@OmniMirror awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it's too bad magic spells are nondescript and that there isn't any in-game help about them, also I'd recommend a guide for a confusing maze-like dungeon near the end of the game. Despite that I'd say the game is really good, there is a surprising amount of plot and dialogue and the gameplay is just plain old fun, I hope it gets enough attention one day in order to get an unofficial sequel or something.
I played Mother 25th Anniversary all the way through despite never playing a prior Earthbound game. I can easily call it the best NES RPG of all time. The game was balanced properly, never felt too easy or too hard, and most importantly, it was fun to play all the way through. Highly recommended and easily worth your time.
I'd recommend *MOTHER Restored* instead, tho, since it actually looks like a Mother game still. It keeps things authentic. Lots of work was put into changing "Earth Bound" back into "Mother", but in English obviously. And it uses the same good retranslation that the 25th Anniversary Edition made use of. And if you want it to be easier, there are additional patches for things lile double experience points. Game Genie codes too. And there are two options with the patch: one for the original names used in the Japanese version, and one that changes them to make it consist with the official translation of Mother 2 / EarthBound.
I got a bit of a surprise when you've shown Rockman no Constancy. "Refined over the years to include a hard mode" is an understatement, because when I played it a few years back, it didn't have the redrawn Rockman sprite! And interestingly, at that point it already had the hard mode in! Should probably give it another go, as it seems that more things have been added since then.
Deadpool is such a cool idea. The Mega Man one looks great, visually. A more balanced Earthbound 1 sounds fantastic. And I loved the Adventure Island games!
Probably one of the best rom hacks I have ever seen was for Legend of Zelda, called Legend of Link. They took the original Zelda game and mashed in stuff from Link to the Past and Link's Awakening. They use sprites from LA, and even added items from LttP and LA such as the Hookshot, Pegasus Boots, Roc's Feather, and others. The overworld is a recreation of the LA overworld, but mirrored. It also has some decent remixes of the original music with some 8bit versions of later music. The only downsides to the romhack is the dungeons are the original layouts and the second quest was removed to make room for all the new content, and the filesize makes it unusable on the Powerpak (not sure about Everdrive), so playing on original hardware isn't really feasible due to it being 2MB (again haven't tried Everdrive so not sure if it can handle 2MB or not). It has a bit of a story to it, so I won't spoil that. But there is a new boss fight at the end of the game that is pretty epic.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the best Kirby game I played so far and it has some quite interesting sections in a spooky abandoned theme park. Check that out!
"The Beatles in Pepperland." There's a Yellow Submarine hack?! That's amazing! I'm surprised to hear anyone even knows that movie, especially from my generation! And making the bulldog Triclyde is perfect, lol
I really appreciate how you give credit to the rom hacks respective authors by stating their name. Most TH-camrs omit that info and I always found it to be kinda disrespectful. Maybe that's just me though...
Oh man I absolutely forgot about Guardian Legend, that game rocked! I'm pretty sure because my mom worked the video rental counter at the local grocery store, no one in my town got to rent that game for like a year. I'm gonna have to find a way to play it again, and this hack!
You don't need Kirby in a scary Halloween type setting. He's terrifying all by himself. He basically eats souls. Also, have you ever seen There Will Be Brawl? They turned Kirby into Hannibal Lecter.
For me, Zelda 2 Redux is like the definitive way to play that game. It adds quality of life features like having you respawn at the beginning of a dungeon upon getting a game over, along with rebalancing the difficulty, though honestly I couldn't tell much of a difference, the game seemed to be about as hard as I remembered it being the last time I played the vanilla game, except how bubbles have way less health in Redux The game putting you at the very beginning and forcing you to take a walk of shame after every single game over is probably the biggest drag in the entire game and having it patched (even if only in dungeons) makes such a huge difference with how enjoyable the game is.
Guardian Legend!......I loved that game Most of my friends didn't even know about it back in the day but it was such a great game I definitely gotta play that rom hack
5:54-6:01 Yep. It also doesn't have the "Automatic Win," so players waste a lot of time fighting weak enemies just to earn very litte EXP. The unpredictability of the enemy encounter rate drives me nuts. They either take forever to appear, or they show up every 3 to 5 seconds. I also noticed that the game softlocks players if they miss one of the "Eight Melodies." I recentky had to restart Earthbound Beginnings because I didn't realize I had to keep the Canary Chick from the Podunk Pet Store and go to the wildlife refuge to return the bird to its mom to unlock the second melody. The game never explains any of that.
Don’t keep up with modern Kirby? You’re missing out on some of the best level design in a Nintendo franchise in years if you skip Forgotten Land. The stages are so immaculately crafted in so many ways. It’s like exploring a really big diorama. Mouthful mode also opens up a lot of cool and surprising mechanics. Highly recommend
A pair I find interesting are "Dragoon X Omega" and "Dragoon X Omega II." Those in particular interest me cause, despite being hacks of Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy respectively, they're turned into their own games entirely, which is really cool to me. :) (I have yet to really play through either beyond the first hour tho (If that))

Thanks! I must have missed this one.
When the world needed him most…. Snes drunk returned, great work !
I love your sports references
I hope you do a Sega Mini 2 review, and games you think should have been added
Could you do a review of:
Desert Strike
Urban Strike
Jungle Strike
I think people would love a review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
"No, not that Wade Wilson." These are the kind of deep cuts we've come to respect and appreciate from SNESDrunk.
Yes I couldn't agree more with you!
Extremely deep cut lol Cowboys coaching legend Wade Wilson
He just makes up people

I love that you cover these and that it's an ongoing series! A winner is you 💚
Yes I was hoping that he would keep going on with this segment.
Ahh, _The Guardian Legend_ music just sets the mood right out of the gate.
Just finished the game after years of only making it so far. Wanted to play it again immediately after
F'n incredible game! Haven't played it in 20 years or more. Guess I'll be doing that this weekend.
Probably one of my most replayed games. I recommend it to any gamer, if for no other reason than the stellar soundtrack, every song is amazing.
Came here to say this. One of my favorite games ever.
LOVE this damn series!!! This is like more or less literally you telling people like me who love NES/SNES, but ain't super into gaming as much anymore, about a whole new world of games that we can relive our childhood again
My father adores the Beatles and has been a secret fan of the NES for a long time. I now have a hack to introduce him to. Thank you!
It's hard for people to get recognition for the work that goes into romhacks. Really appreciate the channel spotlighting what's available to fans.
So happy to see guardian legend get some love! An amazing game from my childhood
I haven't looked at the romhack scene in near 20 years but these videos always make me want to revisit it. So many cool ideas from tons of amazingly talented fans.
It's come a long way in 20 years. Check out Holy Relics if you haven't already.
I’ve been getting into Romhacks (mainly enhancement patches) lately and have been loving them. I started out with Pokémon enhancement patches and I’ve been craving more, thank you posting more (:
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna pop some of these suckers in on real hardware and see how it goes...
That Beatles SMB2 hack is insane. I need to play it through sometime.
Man I wish I had these romhacjs when I was younger and I could of given them the time and attention they deserve.
Glad to see another romhack video, I love all the other ones you've done so far
Oh my God, I think Beattles Adventures in Pepperland just made my day. Thanks for sharing these awesome hacks. Also, Deadpool cutscenes in a rom hack, holy cow man talk about fan service to the 11s
That Beatles hack is awesome. I want to put it in a yellow shell and give it a label with “Yellow Submarine” artwork.
Total conversions always blow my mind.
Kudos to all rom hackers.
SNES drunk always slaps in the morning with some coffee. I will enjoy the rest my day good sir, thank you
Thank you for including Perils of Darkness on your list. ^_^

TGL is my favorite NES game of all time. I was not aware of this rom hack til today. Thank you for this great video!
I love your calm demeanor with light humor. It's refreshing! Have a great day.
Something about turning Mario 2 into an adaptation of Yellow Submarine seems so mighty appropriate.
You‘re the man. Sometimes i just have you in the background, not Even actively listening. Your Videos are like comfortfood to me
Always like seeing these. You take difficulty into account and you often pull up hacks from games that aren't the usual Mario/Zelda/etc. games. I was glad to see the hack for The Guardian Legend show here too!
hell yeah, i love these videos
Excited to give these a try!
So great to see you give a spotlight to all these amazing creations! Looking forward to your next video on Rom hacks!
Love seeing some more hacks to try for all the classic consoles. Thanks for sharing 🙂
love hearing about romhacks! i've made repro's of several over the years, so it's always cool to hear about news ones

Me and my friend just watched a playthrough of the Deadpool game and that was sick as hell.
Really love these ROMhack videos
The Beatles' Adventures in Pepperland looks amazing. It shoulda been playing Hey, Bulldog during the boss fight with the blue Cerberus though.
It does play "Hey Bulldog" during boss fights. 🐕
these are great. I love these lists and videos. Keep making more.
The term "Comically difficult" oddly makes enough sense to work.
I found a Streets of Rage 2 hack yesterday called SoR2 Double X I think it was called. My goodness, it changed the base game completely. It was quite a thing. I know some rom hacks really do make an old game in a completely new one, but I just didn't expect to see it in this particular one.

Great video.
I've been curious to see a video like this for a while.
Hope you do more and more of these!
I’ve started using “have a great rest of your day,” as my ending line with customers at work. It’s perfect. Thank you for that!
Now you just need to use "Trrrrrraaaaaavis Hansen" as your opening line with customers at work, and your transformation will be complete!
The Deadpool hack is referred to as a total ROM conversion. It is basically a whole new game using the Ninja Gaiden game engine. And it is very good.
Making Tuesdays and Thursdays great again!

I mean Kirby doesn't need a Halloween theme because it becomes horror once you get to the final boss. lol
Total length of video: 520 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3.5 secs.
.67% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk."
