  • Part 1 of this series of videos, where to diagnose the problems of this old Cat 330L excavator. Visit our website for more information: mobiledieselmedic.com/
The left forward track is not responding. The unit was made in Japan, has zero CAT E.T. compatibility, and the customer has gone through multiple mechanics attempting to pinpoint the problem
After a few days of diagnostics with the dash control, and finally busting out a whole lot of hydraulic gauges and whip lines, I was able to isolate the gremlin to what is referred to as a Negative Flow Control Relief Valve. The part works as a spring loaded shock absorber and pressure relief circuit. It's berried deep in the Main Control Valve Block. Essentially a 300ish pound, aluminum manifold with around 2 million hydraulic lines coming out of it. I am going to sleep well tonight because this job has been haunting my sleep. It was a real Eureka moment today. Thank you Nick and all the other tech guys at Gregory Poole Caterpillar in Raleigh North Carolina. They were real rock starts helping me with 5 different PDF's.
The video is about Diagnosing Cat 330L: Tackling the Left Forward Track Power Issue - Part 1 but also tries to cover the following subject:
    Excavator hydraulic mysteries
    Unresponsive track diagnostics
    Relief valve discovery

Hi Lewy, I made a few video's and my phone hasn't stopped ringing. I've been filming all the repairs, but just haven't had a minute to post. I think I will look for someone to help me post the video's. Good to hear from you. Honestly the only reason I posted this video was to turn the video in to tech support at Caterpillar. The parts guy over there can't find the part. I was hoping the video will help him.

@@mobilediesel All right, pal, I'll let you off. I hadn't heard of yall starving to death or anything so it was one of those no news is good news deals. Shame that the parts guy can't read a schematic. Got to be one hid over there somewhere. Maybe it's like a lot of the new stuff is that's hid behind special company passwords to keep the real mechanics from fixing it but having to haul it back to the dealers all the time. I've got two REALLY good mechanic pals that quit the outfit here and went to work for Cat and NOW are quit Cat and one is working for the county and the other is back here again. That is a CRAZY deal because Cat used to be a coveted place to be. Glad I'm just fixing my mowers and not having to mess with those guys. My last one was the drive disc coming out of a D5K LGP. Looked like a timing gear on an overhead cam car motor. Went back up with a lot beefier part. So Yall remain calm and God Bless!
