Yes, but in today's "reality" some people are too brainwashed and ignorant to understand the meaning. Because in American each side sees the other exactly the same, unless the person speaking makes it clear which side he is on, it is impossible to know. I cannot assume to know your political leaning based on your comment. I agree with the comment, but without any clarification, I don't know if I agree with YOU.

Losing freedom of speech, just look at the way the police are dressed like storm troopers, police brutality causing people deaths. I was watching the other day in America a man was handcuffed they said he was intoxicated, the police ended up breaking his neck and back then they were mocking the poor man I think while he was dead the family are suing the police force.

For heaven's sake I will never comprehend why are people simpatising with fascism, nazism or communism in 21 century after all the tragedy that happened....you will expect people to learn the history's greatest lesson... They stopped teaching history. What is taught is politically filtered and revised. In my long life, I have observed that human nature is the same the world over and throughout all time. The odious characters in the Nazi regime and others are still here with us today in our communities. While they might lack the opportunities, they find their ways into authority roles which empower them to torture our citizens as much as they can. Certainly some police and officials relish the taking of our freedoms and our dignity - our rights.
      Sad, but true and realistic.

I am always stunned at how the younger generation has no respect for their elders. Those in their senior years (like me) were young, had young ideas, and were very idyllic in our thinking. Then we grew and matured and learned life lessons so valuable to those who will listen. I love to listen to those older and wiser than me. With that hairdo, Joan Bennett looks almost identical to Hedy Lamarr. Hedy was personally involved in WW II , even invented a way for our ships to avoid attacks from enemy ships. Her invention is now considered the background for the cell phones today. In fact, they say that without her invention, we may not have cell phones today. Her ex- husband was a German Munitions magnate from whom she tried unsuccessfully several times to leave, then escaped dressed as her maid. When I first started watching this film, I thought she had snagged a part related to her own life. But I forgot that she spoke very little English, so made very few movies. Sorry to go off on a tangent about Hedy.

Isn't it amazing how so many people can be swayed into following, saying and doing things that they know in their hearts is so very wrong - of course many out of fear and that's a fact. Others who have no remorse, conscience, and want power and money will follow like dogs with their masters any master. This was written and acted very well. Instead of celebrating both cultures they denigrated one to use as blackmail - it did the job but at what cost to this German man who was able to be used and influenced so easily. Who said life was a bowl of cherries... Always enjoyed Joan's presence on screen. Thanks.

This movie was a geat find for me on TH-cam. A good movie and history lesson at the same time. I like how it takes place in Germany and you see the buy-in of the German people. I read in the comments the movie was made in 1940 so a lot was already going on in Europe prior to U.S. involvement. The scariest thing is this could all easily happen again anytime anywhere. I visited Munich and saw its Nazi sites and the Dachau concentration camp in 2016.

@@michekids because of my faith i believe in Jesus and Gods Word, which clearly states that His Judgment on each of us is set to happen, even Christians like me will be judged as well, not because of the root of sin that is born in all of us,that separates us from God, but because of the Blood of Jesus by faith through believing in Him accepting Him and what He did for me and that He was raised from the dead for me, ive been forgiven forgiven that root of sin that separated me from God. I will be judged for what i did for Love with the right heart or wrong heart. Im confident that people who acted good but had evil in their heart Christian or not will get what they deserve even though Jesus did die for all to save all from that eternal place of punishment you hear referred to as hell, it is a real place and was only meant for satan and his crew of evildoers, but the unsaved will live out eternity there too as they have rejected The Son of God and His suffering for them. God doesn't "send" people to hell. God so Loved the world He sent His only Son that WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WOULD BE SAVED ETERNALLY.
