    Well Mick is the only guy I know of who lost pretty much every big match he had and was still one of the most over guys in the business... This is why he's awesome

    i was one of the 25% who knew who he was... Even in WCW when he was a mid-card guy.... his matches were always "must watch" I remember being 13-14 years old and looking forward to his matches no matter who he was facing.. the vader powerbomb on the concrete stands out..
    Love Foley.. wish him nothing but the best

      Didnt Cactus feud wit Vader and Sting? Mid card? Cactus was no mid carder..if you feud wit STing in WCW..it makes you above mid card..you are a main event enemy...

    Mick is correct when he says there wasn't a lot of overlap between WWF and WCW. I never watched WCW, yet I'd watched WWF since the early 80s and I had no idea who Mick was until he got popular as Mankind. Actually after I'd seen him awhile and they said he was formerly Cactus Jack, I thought back to a Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine I had from the late 80s that had an article on him. It was titled "Wrestling's Newest Madman" or something like that.

    Bret wanted falls but Pat Patterson insisted 1-0. Bret felt it would be difficult to hold people's attention to not have a single fall. Bret said his Ironman matches with Flair and Owen tore the house down.

    I think what made Mick beat the win/loss record was that despite always being portrayed as an unhinged individual (or trio), he was always empathetic and relatable. Plus it helps that he did occasionally win the big match or two. There was always a feeling of, "yeah this guy can still win" no matter what. I mean, nobody expected him to beat HHH and Stone Cold at Summerslam and win a third championship. So his feud with HHH at the time felt like he was ultimately going to win the war and get the last laugh. Oh I lost at Royal Rumble. Why don't I put my career on the line next? I lost my career, but I'm fingerbanging my way into the main event of Wrestlemania 2000! I lost all my matches, but now I'm the commissioner and call all the shots! There was just this never ending onslaught of never say die for Foley and people relate to that.

    Shawn said in his book about the WM12 Iron Man match that it was his idea to win 1-0 reasoning that if he and Bret are the best two wrestlers in WWF, then they shouldn't be pinned a bunch of times

    • @ajk
      @ajk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can see the logic...also Bret's biggest thing was the Sharpshooter. For him to get falls by pin with that wouldn't be so believable.

    I did not discover other promotions until a little after the fact. I discovered WCW and a little later ECW in which the first couple wrestlers I recognised from WCW was like Johny B Bad who became Marc Mero which I thought was weird yet Brian Pillman got to keep his name. It felt like more the other way around oddly where WWF guys would go to WCW. I remember thinking I discovered the future stars of WWF by finding those shows haha. Funny to think back to when I thought it was real and had no internet

      PWI Wrestling-global mags on wrestling made it clear..but WWF closed minded people were not aware of it ..or just brainwashed until later..

    • @elizabeth3280
      @elizabeth3280 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EXPLISITemcee I would not call it brainwashed. I had my guys and started out only being able to watch it on Saturdays in which WWF was a far superior product than that WCW Show but after seeing WCW guys get to the WWF it felt like I already knew who they were. ECW was a woah what is this as it was wild. I remember angling the antenna to watch the PPVs in which brute force methods mixed with trial and errorr resulted in making it to where. to make to where at one point it came in perfect but the wrong colors. I was 12 before I ever got to see any kind of live event and discovered what the Indies were on accident thinking it was a WWE event because they had ex WWF stars named and/or pronounced wrong on the radio haha. I am not sure it is possible to get as invested in wrestlers past a certain point. At least for me. I stopped watching for the most part except around WrestleMania Season Ill sometimes order the Network and see what is up. I still follow my favotires and look for nastalgic matches I loved as a kid so the algorithm shows me healdines on what is going on these days. Sometimes I bite and see whats up

    Tommy Dreamer is the perfect example of reverse Dusty-itus. He likes to lose all of the time for his ego. He wants people to talk all about how he "would rather put guys over" even to the company's detriment. Foley can be the same way.

  • @chibipoe
    @chibipoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    HHH vs the Rock's Iron Man in 2000 was leagues better, even if the two of them weren't as talented in-ring wise, for storytelling(minus that shitty ending) did so much a better job of keeping you interested.

    • @EXPLISITemcee
      @EXPLISITemcee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You said shitty ending....and you assume Bret vs hbk was not a crap ending? Bad ending like not a 1 on 1 battle? cheating? then it cant compare to a true 1 on 1..nobody getting involved ending...and it was at MAnia..

      @@EXPLISITemcee I've seen both too, yeah. And due to being at Mania, it will, but as structured for storytelling, HHH vs Rock is better on that front. Bret vs HBK with them trading falls to a tie until a last minute SCM to clinch for Shawn should have been the finish instead of official restarting the match nonsense. Just like Rock should have gone clean at Judgement Day, but if wishes were fishes. :/

    • @chibipoe

      But, since this is Foley, there's plenty of decisions that were just weird. Like, Shawn going over UT at Hell in a Cell due to Kane interference. (I still think a UT-Bret rematch leading to Shawn getting the title over UT at the Rumble would have saved us all the Montreal Screwjob, but w/e).

    Yikes terrible take in my opinion. Having constant near falls with no one able to get the better of the other should show that these two are the best wrestlers in the company and it should be tough to get a pinfall or sub on either of them. Followed up with one score takes all. And you cant compare it to another sport like they tried to do because those sports dont have the storyline that wrestling does.
