I have 18 Delaware chicks. I can’t wait till they start laying eggs. The nicest birds that I have.

I have six Delaware chicken hens.I really love their dispositions and their nice big brown eggs. I can let them forage in the yard without worrying they will migrate to a neighbors yard. They don't fly and are happy where they are at!

I got 4 D chicks April 2021. They started laying in August & kept going through winter and onward. Stopped to molt in October, started up again Dec 21 2022. Shortest day of the year, laying 1-3 eggs a day. My neighbors love it. No lights or heat, but they are fine without. Loves to forage means loves to escape & explore. One clucks alot super Mama's girl, the rest more reserved. We're on a town lot 100x100 ft., with 20x20 ft fenced yard. Covered run (rains 80 in a yr here). Mud is always a farm problem here, but they do great. Love 'em.

I have 3 roosters and 1 hen of the Delawares. We started with a total of 5, but one roo was hyperaggressive, so he was culled. I am still letting the other 3 grow out to decide who will be my keeper, my backup, and the other either rehomed or dinner. Overall, they have excellent temperaments (except the one), getting along with my other roosters and not being overly nasty with the hens. One of mine is a little more aggressive, but he is an excellent flock protector and comes running if any hen sounds agitated. They buddy up well with my 2 black jersey giant roosters.
The meat is exceptional, but was a smidge stringy (though that may be due to not enough dry aging time). Leg meat was wonderfully flavorful and pleasant to eat.
The hen lays enormous jumbo size eggs weighing between 75 and 80 grams.

Like to hatch or to eat? If you want them for eating then you'd have to find a Delaware keeper in your area. For hatching, you can actually buy Delaware chicks from places like Murray McMurray or Cackle
      hatchery.

I inherited 2 hens when my son moved into city limits. They are mature about 2 YO now and have been very easy to maintain. Now planning on getting more hens, so likely will be getting more of this breed.

We don’t have any Delaware’s for sale in central Indiana. The closest would be the white leghorns. I will be picking up 2-3 Leghorns this week hopefully. I have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Easter Eggers and 1 Olive Egger. So I’m looking for diversity in egg color while trying to keep harmony with my little group.
Thanks for all the videos. I’m new to chickens so I’m still learning a lot. Thanks for the info.

1 of my 4 girls is a Delaware. I named her Marcy because early on she was aggressive in taking food from her sisters, just like my brother Mark used to take my allowance without any feelings of guilt. LoL

So can they be bred? We are wanting a breed we can reproduce on our own and be self sustainable. Ty.

4 delaware hens. 2 delaware roosters in our flock. The roosters will tolerate being held. They are not aggressive

I have a Rhode Island rooster that came in a set of 4 supposedly female easter eggers little chicks I purchased. He is gorgeous, however, he is the most aggressive rooster I've ever seen, he torn one of my older laying chickens' comb apart and he would attack us all the time. My chickens were very stressed and terrified of him. He had to be put in a separate area. We are making him big and meaty so we can eat him. I don't want any roostes!!!

I bought a Delaware it was supposed to be a pullet but at 9 weeks it's very aggressive and pushy with a good sized comb and waddles
Looks like a hen but I'm beginning to wonder.

How is the breast meat on Delaware? Is 3-4 lbs an expect-able dressed weight? Really good video BTW.

First year hens always lay small eggs but it can also depend on the bloodline. They should get larger over time.

Who cares for the history of a chicken really? Just go to the point, temperament and eggs color, size and production.
The breeders can read encyclopedias about chicken history as much as they want, but I couldn't care less.
