Yeah I get what you mean I started playing the first week and I admit there were ups and downs but this game just always finds away to pull you back in, I still remember every iteration of my pirate all the way to now, I can’t wait to see what happens next, here’s to another six years on the Sea of thieves
Beautiful video, your story (after the beginning) is almost identical to my own. Started late June 2018, I had just got an Xbox One for my birthday. it came with a digital copy of Sea of Thieves. my first session wasn't at all what was intended. i spent at least 10 minutes alone in the tavern, looting barrels, reading the pirate code, and talking to the NPCs. then I walked out to the beautiful sight of Golden Sands Outpost (Rip to people who started in the wilds.) I ran around a bit completely terrified of the water (big shark on the box scared me) so i kept running around the island. I found the clothing shop and initially thought I was stealing from the clothing chest, as a true pirate would! I then customized my pirate with the very limited "stolen" cosmetics. after finally looking in every barrel and talking to every NPC, i braved the ocean and swam around in the shallows, still terrified of sharks. then i noticed a strange blue flare just off the coast, i thought "what could i lose?" then swam over to it. next thing I knew I was inside a large damp ship (Galleon.) Turns out, all the time i spent in the tavern, was enough for my crew to leave me behind and for me to NEVER encounter them until i had taken the mermaid. in hindsight i do remember getting pop ups like "%##%#% Has Dug up a Marauders Chest!" but i had just assumed it was a global thing. When i got teleported to the galleon, they had just stopped at Sanctuary outpost to sell their chests to the gold hoarders. i didnt understand, but i helped sell thinking i was being given a share of the loot. After my first voyage i got off because it was bedtime. I Didn't play again for a month. but when I watched some Zylbrad and Captain Falcore Videos, i was hooked. I was playing for at least an hour nearly every night. thankfully i got back in time to do all of the time-limited stuff during cursed sails, and even managed to snag the barnacle ship hull.
Just checked my achievements, and apparently I got the "I Don't See Your Ship" (take part in sinking an enemy ship) achievement, before i got the "Now Bring Me that Horizon" (setting sail for the first time) achievement. those pirates 3 manned a galleon and sank some poor soul!
Love this game I haven't played in some years but I cant hold back any longer with the new weapons and lore to discover. I've played this game the day the beta came out and counted the days it would release and watch the first ever guy stream getting pirate legend and remember in lunch when he was running al around the outpost looking for how to open up the secret door that was so amazing to watch. Thank you for bringing back those memories for me. :,)
I really hope that devs won't ruin flame heart ship as they did with skull of siren song. Price for it should be high. Also stealth(in season 14) sounds most exciting for me
Sot changed my fear of video game water i used to freak out internally going underwater in sot especially during kraken but i kept facing that fear now i swim across the map to keg someone
I started right before the seasones launched, but it was still so magical. When i booted up the game i knew nothing and that was the fun to me. I spent hours figuring out how the gold hoarder wault voyage worked fighting of foes and skeletons. And when i finally got the Key it said «krakens fall wault key» so i thought it was a way of spawning the kraken or so ans that was the fun to my. Not knowing anything in a world full of pirates and riches finding my own path and destiny in the strange and wonderfull home of ours.
This was a beautiful video essay. This absolutely brought me back to the original feelings of sailing. I loved loved LOVED this. Great video buddy. This is my favourite game ever other than the Monkey island trilogy back in the 90's. I can't remember when i started. A year or so after lauch i think. What a game! I love it also. See you on the sea's.
I started playing the midway between the end of The Hungering Deep and Cursed Sails. I spawned at Golden Sands and sailed over to Mermaids Hideaway. Just having fun with my dad. Edit: I took a break aftet heart of fire's release because of Reaper's Bones and well i was not a PvP guy. I returned Season 8 and have been playing since.

As a long term pirate and as of recently content maker i love this game it has such a magical feel to it that fills a really neat spot in my heart.
