I love it. I loved how 1665 became The Girl with the Pearl Earring too. I hope they do more of these. Portraits, famous paintings, they can even do famous photographs from more modern eras. It’s so cool to get the breakdown and then the lightning bolt realisation of how it applies to an image you’ve seen all your life.

Sometimes I narrate in my head when I get dressed. Like "tinted lip balm was a popular choice for everyday wear, and could be found in a variety of colors" or "in colder seasons, pantyhose were worn. They could be made from nylon or from thick wool, depending on the weather"

I did comment this on a couple of posts ago. They currently don't have the budjet and means to get outside experts to help with non-european fashions. They do want to get people of different cultures to help with the videos to make sure it's correct, and right now it's not possible.

As an Asian of Southeast Asia person, I enjoy very much watching a channel that caters to Western clothing culture of all periods and I take no offense if they choose not to dive into clothing cultures outside Europe.
Instead of asking Westerners to represent/showcase clothing style of non-European, how about someone from that culture itself have the decency to tell their story of their clothing culture to the world with its own TH-cam platform?

I'm impressed how 'modern' those white indoor shoes are. I think you could find rather similar examples in the centuries ever since, a truly timeless design!
Leonardo getting 'distracted by other commissions' is something of an understatement from what I know of him, guy was all _over_ the place.

I was lucky to have seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre while I was in Paris over 12 years ago. It's actually not a very big portrait at all and you have to get in line to see it. Even then, they won't let you get really close to it because it's been stolen from the Louvre before which is why the portrait is famous to begin with.
I would love to see a dramatization inspired by Degas's ballet dancers and maybe even feature the sculpture he made of one of them.

A curiosity: judging from the Gioconda copy in Madrid (a painting that was discovered, it was made at the same time as the original Gioconda by one of Leonardo's disciples, perhaps as a way of improving their technique while painting at the same time as the master), the original sleeves were probably red. Now we see them as a burnt gold because of the yellowish varnish.

    Wonderfully done!
It reminds me of something weird I've seen in a city park. There was a woman in a red dress, I'd consider Italian renaissance, and it looked like real embroidered silk. She had something in her hair akin to a double row pearl chain and she had a golden necklace with jewels, which would no one wear today anymore (at least not in my place and not without bodyguards). She looked stunning, but completely out of place. I would have loved to take a photo, but when I tried to ask, she replied in a French dialect I couldn't understand. It was like Yiddish would be to German. Plus, a very unfriendly-looking guy turned up. He was BTW dressed in 19th-century fashion with a top hat, but his coat was removed. The weirdest thing about him was that his costume looked great too, but it was a bit too worn out and he looked rather unclean too, which is nothing I'd expect from some cosplayer. I don't think that either of them was Italian. They looked more like Gypsies to me (dunno how I should call them in this day and age). I have no idea what I have walked into. I didn't see anyone else that appeared to be involved and even less someone with a camera, in case it was a photo shoot.

This was so beautiful I cried a little! It's amazing to reach out and touch history in such a way!!
I was wondering if you would ever make a pattern book for some of these things? For the more avid fan :)

I feel like the wide and slightly off the shoulder neckline are just what I need for my day to day wear. I've got broad shoulders and honestly I feel a style that embraces them would be much better than hiding them under tshirts and such

Good one. Got me. And I also enjoy women getting around the system - "Respectable women cover their hair and head for modesty!" Women: "OK." Then women seek out see--through fine fabrics that still show their clothes and hair.

Saw the Mona Lisa in the Louvre in 2017, and just last week saw a copy of it in the Salar Jung Museum. Most famous painting in the world, indeed!

"Are you warm, are you lonely Mona Lisa? Or just a cold and lonely lovely work of art?" Mona Lisa written by Ray Evans & Jay Livingston. Thank you for another lovely interesting video. Tremendously well done. Bravo! 💜

The moment you said Gianconda, I was like, "Wait a minute..." Good one. Good video. Always makes me wonder if the husband of the woman asked for his deposit back since he never got the finished portrait. Or maybe the poor woman died in childbirth and Da Vinci thought it in poor taste to finish it and ask for his money.

Da Vinci was never paid for the portrait, since he never delivered it to the family. There are still modern descendants of the family today that have said this.
