A big part of the problem for the 23 class is they came into a situation where rosters had guys playing ahead of them who were granted COVID years and coaches that were not willing to give them opportunities when 23 year olds with tons of experience were available. It also hurt them because other than the Purdue game, there weren't any blowout wins where some of these DBs could see the field. Close games against Western Michigan and South Dakota hurt the development of young players. There also seems to be a communication issue with the DB coach that none of those guys could see a path to the field
it simply shows "no one is in a protected role". it is "earn your role every day". that should be very encouraging and send a clear signal to the guys that did not come from Cincy.
@@CraigFissel...I think when DL Thompson n WR Trech departed, it is a clear signal to me neither player had enough faith in Fickell, his coaches nor the program to stick around! Why else leave? I think the culture at UW is in the toilet n things are much worse than any of us realize! UW is a disaster otherwise these guys would be sticking around because Fickell, his coaches n the direction is so wonderful n promising! That is certainly not the case! We're a lot closer to Purdue than many realize! Lots of guys feel no allegiance...ugh!

The teams that have a strong foundation of system, process, and identity it is much easier to target the right players and succeed with in the portal and recruiting. It becomes more of a plug and play whereas without a strong foundation, Fickell is simply playing fantasy football. Fickell needs to fix this fast or he will be gone once the buyout figure is palatable.

Fickell addressed how he speaks to the Reporters in the face of adversity in the last minute and a half of the signing day press conference. bottom line "Families respect each other and do not air their dirty laundry in public". especially if you are a Fickell Detractor - take a listen to how a professional communicates...

Kekahuna had 25 catches. Kekahuna was on the field a lot, especially at the end. Ya got to get open to get the ball. Heard plenty of analysts comment on his ability and quickness after catching the ball. Not so much about crisp route running or ability to get open.
If Fickell would of pitched to the fans, "We're going to SUCK for 3 to 4 years, BUT..... we might be good in year 5 and 6" who the hell would of wanted to hire that ?
Most of the 2023 guys weren't really LF guys so I don't think it's a huge deal. Bringing AAC guys to B1G isn't ideal and most of the recruits from that class were PC guys. Yeah LF wanted them to stick when he came in, but that was more that he needed bodies in there. It wasn't like most of those guys were LF plan A or B type guys.
This season was just shit. I'm sorry, but that's the only way to describe it. I gave up after USC. Didn't even listen to this show, which I was an everyday listener before the season. Still watched the games in the background, but I had no feeling behind it for the first time in years.
Wisconsin may be doing that in the portal, but other teams are hitting big in the portal, that's a Wisconsin thing not a portal thing. Look at ALA, MIZ, COL, ORE, etc. Quit bringing in 15 bad portal players, bring in 8 good ones.

I wouldn't consider a kid entering the portal as a recruiting miss. Snowden, Moore and Trech were definitely hits. It's just the timetable for football players to profit off their skills is limited and they need to do what's best for themselves. There will be several 24 and 25 recruits that transfer in the future. Wisconsin needs to step up our portal game.
He had a really long offer list, so for Wisconsin to get him was a success. I wouldn't consider it a miss that he didn't contribute his freshman year and chose to transfer. Still a recruiting win in my opinion.

Transition classes are tough. A lot of recruits from the previous regime and really a rush to fill other spots very quickly.
I'm not surprised by the amount of Chryst recruits entering the portal, I am surprised by the players Fickell brought from Cincy

Face it. Chryst left the program in shambles. Recruiting was awful, except for a few good players in each class. Not enough to compete.
