Wow. . . . hes gone. He was exactly a week older than me too. That was my guy. I think Batum is a big part of what made the Blazers good for really 5 playoffs in the last 7 years in the West (BATUMS WHOLE CAREER). He is such a unique player and truely great, just inconsistent, maybe leading to his trade. I liked Batums game a lot. His 5x5 game (10pt11ast5rb5stl5blk) was something only done a few times since the new millenium. He was great in Rip City and was pivitol in 2014's WCRD1 vs Houston....whom is the team THAT on DRAFT DAY 2008 the Blazers traded for the 25th pick of HOU - Nicolas Batum was that player. CHARLOTTE WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS IN 2015 FOR SURE :)
God Portland under-utilized the shit outa him! He had a ridiculously well-rounded skill set, deadly outside shot, truly amazing passing, one of the greatest and most underrated on-ball defenders in Blazer history, great in the post against other SM's, (hell even most PF's back then - despite being so skinny), while also being every bit as good at driving to the hoop and finishing with either hand. He had the skill-set and athletic ability to be a Keven Durrant who could actually play defense and pass the ball! I get LA was there and was even most elite so he def shoulda been the first option every time down without question, but Batum should have been the second option0 not Lillard or Matthews. Lillard was great, but back then that team was so deep with guys who may not be household names, but could still score double figures every game if needed, we really needed him to be more of a passer/distributor rather than looking to score so much. I know most fellow Blazers fans would consider this blasphemy, but it's the truth. We need a guy like Terry Porter, Rod Strickland, or even Stoudamire 0 guys who easily coulda put up well over 20 a game, but were asked to be a floor-general instead because of all the other scorers on the teams that those three played on. Though part of why he didn't produce ridiculously good numbers was due to him being FAR too unselfish offensively, (extremely similar to Sheed while at Portland), however it's up to the coach to recognize the talent he has and how to best utilize said talent, and whether it was Nate or Stott 0 they simply didn't come close to doing that for both Nic as well as number of other guys on those teams back in the late 2000's to early/mid 2010's.

Thanks for all those amazing years nick! One of the best Blazers ever and he put in 110 percent effort in all games. Respect man, gonna miss you!
