    You, my friend, are a genius! I nearly stripped the stud of the clamp. Glad I found your video! After boiling for 5 minutes, it was still a little snug to get off, but eventually it loosened up. Phew...

      Great! You can keep boiling it if the stud doesn't come off. And use a pair of vise-grips to lend a hand on really stubborn stud screws. You'll only be damaging the end of the screw, the 1/4" part. Glad it worked for you!

    haha brilliant ..how many people have trashed their clamps and rounded the allen heads watching the how to change your clamp videos .. THANKS FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO BUDDY, as in other videos they dont just undo at the first sight of an allen wrench ..

      Hey, you are most welcome!
      The glue works better than allen heads, since it won't wear out or get stuck. And it provides a better contact area for smoother overall function.

    Splendid! Exactly what I was looking for. After watching this clip, I was able to replace the FLM QRB 70 clamp on the FLM CB 50 FTR ballhead with Andoer brand arca compatible lever clamp.Thank you!

    I have a Really Right Stuff (RRS) ballhead and just used a heat gun for less than a minute to heat the screw on top of the clamp. It's much easier to use a heat gun that can direct the heat towards the screw than to have to deal with boiling water.

    • @FLMUSACanada
      @FLMUSACanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, but our ball heads have a rubber band at the “neck” of the ball. Using a direct heat source like a heat gun or torch usually destroys the rubber band.

    I am shocked seeing this. I would have guessed this would be very bad for the clamp threads etc., happy to learn otherwise. You might have backed up and explained the idea of using locktite to begin with, I never have. And don't a number of the FLM devices have cork/rubber pads on top?

    • @FLMUSACanada
      @FLMUSACanada  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, we have another video which shows how to attach the clamp, and it shows thread glue being used. This has been our preferred way of attaching clamps since the beginning. Doing so with screws wears out the connection over time, causing wobble and other misalignments. The glue never comes loose unless you want it to. The cork pads don't suffer from the hot water because the material also contains rubber. This prevents the cork from drying out or becoming slippery, and it gives the rubber some extra strength and helps it last longer. Thanks for asking!

    Any idea if this applies to Arca Swiss heads as well? As I understand they ship them with non-removable clamps and people send them to some dealer in California to have the clamps swapped out.

    • @FLMUSACanada
      @FLMUSACanada  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Aaron, Arca-Swiss uses a stronger glue and then bakes it for maximum adhesion. That would be my guess as to why their clamps can't be removed. The guy in California likely has a way to apply heat to the joint, enough to melt the glue, but in a way so as not to damage the gear. It would be a tricky thing to do, but it's definitely possible.
      To attach our clamps, we use a mild thread glue, Loctite 242, which gives all the holding power needed, but can also be removed easily enough, if needed.
      Thanks for your question!

    Would it after this also be easy enough to unscrew the stud screw from the quick release if it was the same glue or would you boil it even more?

    • @FLMUSACanada
      @FLMUSACanada  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Örjan Magnusson If the stud screw is still attached then boil for 5 minutes more. Keep the ball locked and use pliers if necessary. Clean glue residue with cotton ball and alcohol. Thank you

      Thank you for quick answer but you say: -“Keep the ball locked....”
      The ballhead was already detached in the video so I would just put it aside. What I meant now was the quick release that the stud screw was still attached to. But from what you say maybe...boil quick release and stud screw 5 min more and use a gentle specialty soft-grip plier (pluming plier?) to the stud screw if you cant turn it with your fingers?

    • @FLMUSACanada
      @FLMUSACanada  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Örjan Magnusson Yes, exactly. Keep boiling in 5 min intervals and don’t be afraid to use a tool. The bottom of the stud screw is 1/4” which is usually not needed. Thank you

      Hmm, you’re right. Thank you very much.
      (I now know exactly how to proceed and have no worries about ordering a CB-38 FTR, it looks to be popular.)

    Tried this after 2 mins boiling water to no avail. Do you think I should try again maybe leaving it in the water for 4-5 minutes? My ballhead is a Markins M20 and I've read somewhere that the lactate 242 is used. Any suggestions?

    • @FLMUSACanada
      @FLMUSACanada  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guido, contact Markins and ask which glue is used on your ball head. My guess is it’s stronger than 242 and will need higher heat to get it apart. Good luck!
