Judging from this recreation, it sounds like Melee was supposed to sound more like the N64 game at first, but they decided to go with a more realistic orchestral sound in the final game. Really nice work!
Could be. But imo it did still sound pretty melee-ish, but these were the only samples I had access to. Like how in the original version the leading horn sounded more authentic. Here I used one from the Roland SC 88 soundfont because I couldn't really find one that sounded close enough. I know melee used different soundfonts but I haven't been able to dig them up. It surprised me to learn that melee even USED midi for some of their songs because it had always sounded so real to me.
@@Madskillz434 Your remix sounds much better than the original version, I seem to have a better time listening to the beta then the original for some reason lol
Thanks for creating this, I hope that the real version eventually leaks one day theres probably way more unused tracks given the Temple leftovers in one demo.
I can’t thank you enough for this. It sounds really great, and even better than the previous version. I’m still wishing that someday, the beta version of Melee that includes it gets leaked!
Amazing revision of this song! Glad you kept the old version of this song for comparison because I definitely noticed the small additional details and changes to the notes in this new one and how both versions managed to stay faithful to the beta version. Maybe one day we'll get to listen to the original beta song that once was in all it's motherly glory.
When you are happy, with laughter to spare Fun is twice as fun with someone to share When you are lonely and full of despair Things aren't half as bad when somebody cares Maybe now you have figured it out That's what bein' a friend is about When you're lookin' for a shoulder you can cry on Won't you think about me When you're lookin' for someone you can rely on Don't you ever doubt me I'll be there someway, somehow That's what bein' friends is about When you are restless and want room to breathe I will give you all the space that you need And when you're ready for my company I will come around; just call on me Maybe now you have figured it out That's what bein' a friend is about When you need someone who feels the way you do Won't you think about me Someone who can pick you up when you are blue Don't you ever doubt me I'll be there someway, somehow That's what bein' friends is about I'm your friend 'till the end Count on me In the sunshine and the rain Paradise and back again Count on me Let me be a friend in need Let me be a friend indeed Count on me And if you ask me, you know that it's true There is not a thing that I wouldn't do I'd follow you to the ends of the earth That's how much I think our friendship is worth Maybe now you have figured it out That's what bein' a friend is about When there's something that you just don't understand Won't you think about me I'll be more than glad to lend a helping hand Don't you ever doubt me I'll be there someway, somehow That's what bein' friends is about I'll be there someway, somehow That's what bein' friends is abou
i suspect this song's use in beta Melee is no indication that it was made for the game. Seems like it could just as easily be an early version of the song from the album, when they were first composing the song
Know something??? I remember that I saw the original one (the E3 2001 version on YT) ... when I finished watching the video, you uploaded this and was kinda awesome finding it. Congrats for making good music.
@@Madskillz434 Of course, it was a fun one to use, without the echos of SpaceWorld 2001, it really gives this track a brand new experience when used in-game! ^^

I dont think it was an artistic choice, I think this was always supposed to be a placeholder.

I would love to hear this in the style of the Bein' Friends that actually got released.
When you are happy, with laughter to spare
Fun is twice as fun with someone to share
When you are lonely and full of despair
Things aren't half as bad when somebody cares
Maybe now you have figured it out
That's what bein' a friend is about
When you're lookin' for a shoulder you can cry on
Won't you think about me
When you're lookin' for someone you can rely on
Don't you ever doubt me
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what bein' friends is about
When you are restless and want room to breathe
I will give you all the space that you need
And when you're ready for my company
I will come around; just call on me
Maybe now you have figured it out
That's what bein' a friend is about
When you need someone who feels the way you do
Won't you think about me
Someone who can pick you up when you are blue
Don't you ever doubt me
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what bein' friends is about
I'm your friend 'till the end
Count on me
In the sunshine and the rain
Paradise and back again
Count on me
Let me be a friend in need
Let me be a friend indeed
Count on me
And if you ask me, you know that it's true
There is not a thing that I wouldn't do
I'd follow you to the ends of the earth
That's how much I think our friendship is worth
Maybe now you have figured it out
That's what bein' a friend is about
When there's something that you just don't understand
Won't you think about me
I'll be more than glad to lend a helping hand
Don't you ever doubt me
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what bein' friends is about
I'll be there someway, somehow
That's what bein' friends is abou

Yay, now I can sing along to the song~! It's interesting how they kept the strange verse where everything gets deeper and some male voices join in.
This is really accurate
This is BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOODNESS❤
