Hard to believe that 18 years have passed since the release of Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2. The game stands tall among the Star Wars game franchises as being one of the best there is. Even today the game has yet to be surpassed by another Star Wars flight sim. Factor 5 were technical wizards of their day and what they crafted with Rogue Squadron 2 is nothing short of phenomenal. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that the game was limited to 480P and a 4:3 aspect ratio it could still be mistaken for a game released today. I have a deep love for Rogue Squadron 2 and it is the key reason I am here today making YT videos in the first place. If you have yet to play this amazing title, find yourself a GameCube and go do so! If you don't own Rogue Squadron 2 here are some affiliate links to it on Amazon. On launch day all the stores were sold out of Rogue Squadron 2 and Super Smash Bros Melee, so I played Luigi's Mansion until Christmas when my parents got me both the games I really wanted. Spent 10 hours in my room that day alternating between them. It was at that time my longest single play session.
I played this game at the moment it came out and i couldnt help to think , these had to be the best controls i have ever played in a video game. I still think its top tier even in 2021.
I have some seriously fond memories playing this game in summer 2002 or 03 when I'd get tired of playing Sonic Adventure 2. God, I miss this genre of game. I know its doubtful but if there could be a Switch port or even more unlikely a RS4. There was supposed to be a Rouge Squadron on Wii but it hurts knowing I'll never play it.
Sonic Adventure 2 was such a blast! Put a ton of hours into building up my Chao. Arcade flight sims are so fun but they are rarely done right. Another reason I am so glad that Ace Combat 7 turned out so well! And the Wii version was completely finished which makes its non release even more sad...
The actual reason I bought my GameCube, the N64 prequel hooked me! I totally agree with you here, for me it's simply the best Star Wars game in existence. Even SW games of a different genre haven't delivered that EPIC feeling that this game did. And the controls were just sublime. Never bettered, will it ever be? Excellent review Ice! Ancient⭐

Why do they hate us so much? All I've ever asked for was a decent bare-bones port of this game. Let alone the trilogy version with online multiplayer that actually exists
@@ArchadesGames the Switch has been proven to be able to play N64, Gamecube, and wii games thanks to Mario, and surprisingly Turok. it can play those titles, and since this is modern Nintendo, it would make them a buttton of money which they would like, so why are they being stupid and not doing it? is it a software thing, cause i doubt it since... well, see above. it would also help with the expenses, cause have you seen how expensive Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, and Chibi-Robo are? What supercomputer are you running this on? I just bought a new PC with a 3060 and Ryzen 5 and the game crashes as soon as the opening cutscene ends. Was really hoping to be able to play this one!
I have to admit... huge fan of X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, other space sims... but I never got a GameCube, and I missed out on this one.

I didn't find it that enjoyable

oh heck yeah! I have been playing it again a lot since the release of the Retro-Bit Prism HDMI adapter and it looks so clean!
Fellow launch day owner here. My kids are now playing that same copy on the same system. One of the best games ever.
It's a great feeling to have the kids play it!
Rogue Squadron II was possibly the biggest reason I got a Gamecube when it came out. That and Resident Evil
Great reasons!
So much nostalgia.... which is why I tracked a GameCube down and went online and bought this game last year.... ah the memories.
Love it!

Both rougue squadron games run using a lot of GC features to maximize performance that a lot of other games just ignore...
I loved Rogue Squadron 1 like there's no tomorrow but I didn't want anything to do with consoles, and still don't to this day.

I like the rouge squadron series and all the Factor 5 star wars (rouge squadron 1,2,3, battle for naboo) more then the battlefront series.
Agreed 100%
Does anyone know how to change language on this game?
I've never had a console so I envied those who could play the exclusives. But now thanks to emulators, I can play a lot of those older games and some even have HD texture packs.
I got all gold in rouge squadron 1. Never did it for the 2nd game cause of the reason you described..
Hang on. You said the port for Wii was cancelled or whatever but the original Wii's can play GameCube games can't they? So surely this would work
You can play the GC version on Wii yes, but the compilation version got canned.
