Don't worry, do the stuff that you find fun. You can take your time and focus on doing what you enjoy without feeling pressured to follow trends or upload the most popular or challenging content. We don't mind. TH-cam is kinda known for bringing people down with stress, so don't think you're alone in this, and as for the editing, most creators tend to hyper-edit everything when in reality, people don't even pay attention to that stuff, it just makes it harder to watch. If you keep it more simplistic, it will be better for both you, since you don't have to put 4x the effort, and your audience. (Get well soon!)
"I'm lost, my thoughts are drier than the desert. Sitting here for hours and my head is starting to hurt. Stuttering, can't pump out shit on any basis. Creatively I'm dying and my mind's in stasis" - stasis by shwanck Anyways no pressure! Having fun is the goal of a game after all. Also I think even the content will come out better if you've had fun making it. Also as for playing stuff other than ranked, after quitting for a year and coming back I played much less ranked and just played random stuff, and actually your youtube shorts help find a lot of cool random tech maps when I was becoming more of a tech player during that time. So it's definitely possible to just play random maps, and from time to time that's exactly what I do.
Please don't feel bad about losing interest in grinding ranked. You're right that playing random maps and doing silly stuff is way more fun, and you'll be in a much better place if you focus on having fun! It's okay to take a breather once in a while :)
I'm really happy to see that I'm not the only one to be experiencing this, after 5 years of playing I realized the most fun I've ever had playing beat saber was the beginning, now that I got sucked into ranked everything is different. I hope everything goes well for you, and for anyone else going through the same, this game WILL be fun again :3
yeah exactly sins 1 year i played and started to be in the top 1000 global (i know thats not incredyble at all but that was great for me) i was not playing for the fun any more. i just continued to play cause i was scared to get worst and progressively lose my level cause i love the competition and the "grind''. in addition to that i get used to got wrists pain due of beat saber and the others sports that i do on the side like rock climbing slalom and freestyle kayaking. so i had to do a choice betwin them. now its been one year and a half that i didnt touched my quest 2 this make me sad a bit and im honestly scared to play again and noticed that i have maybe the half of my level. maybe i will play again. but i love this game and its community I hope beat saber lives a loooong time!!! big up to scarabyte the guy ho did the most crazy maps that no one passed and cerret for his incredibly clean gameplays and his amazing accuracy. and for finnish i thanks so much this game for making me discover the most insain and beautiful compositor of all times C A M E L L I A!!!!!!!! Yes, this happened to me as well. The most fun I had was in multiplayer with my friend, but then I switched to 1.37 and he couldn’t which meant we weren’t able to ply together anymore. Now I downgraded again, and am waiting for the BeatTogether servers to come back online
Take your time Tibytes, take a break if you need it! We (Or hopefully most) would understand if you didnt play beat saber anymore, we'll be here either way. Have a good time Tibytes!
As someone who's done TH-cam for a bit and someone who's currently in a bit of a demotivation phase in their career, I feel this. Doing the same content for so long, especially when it's something your viewers expect and especially with smaller channels, that fear of working on a video, stream, etc, and it not getting to the reach you want to because it's not what the viewers want can be kind of rough. This video def helped open my eyes on some things for what I look for in TH-cam and how I want to proceed with things, so I want to thank you. As far as you go, just do what you want. It might be rough at first but you'll get around and eventually get an audience that enjoys you for you and not for what you want. As long as you keep your head up, I believe your content journey can go really really far! Never back down never what?!
I love your content regardless of it being competitive Beat Saber or just random stuff, i also really like the idea of stream highlights since you are going to do them more often.
Hi Tibytes I have seen you cook so hard and I have seen you use your sabers to slices those blocks in rapidly times and your one of my favourite beat saber players of all time. It’s ok just take your time and have some breaks if you need to! So if you see this I love you❤❤❤ From BumshinVR❤️
I feel the exact same way on main channel. It’s very hard to, but you need to know when your mental health is at risk. I haven’t learned this myself either, I’m still doing something even though I don’t really enjoy it. Trust me, you know what’s best for you, and it’s important to do that.
I had the set goal to play this game PURELY because I wanted to pass every 14 star. Took me years and not up until recently I finally manged to pass and no pause eveything, but hell I completed my goal and that was it, I felt sort of empty, as well as the fact that the video I made got no attention, so I sort of stopped playing as much. I feel the same way about uploading, sometimes I wonder if people will even like the content or if theyll watch it. I liked uploading content for fun, but now I feel obliged too for some reason forcing myself to upload even with a smaller audience (and lack of effort really since I just like showcasing my scores on maps and uploading replays, my pc cant handle recording and playing). Now I dont upload much and I havent been playing ranked songs much anymore. I still play beat saber a lot, but now ive come to just play curated beatsaver maps/random maps I find or am told to play, and not worry about my rank as much, and ive been enjoying the game a lot more. You shouldnt feel forced to upload, you've got pretty much a whole beat saber community supporting you some way. Just do what you think will make you happiest. I personally think that cooler maps (noodle maps, tech maps, lighshows, etch..) instead of "holy moleh this is hard guys" are much more entertaining to watch.
You're one of the most dedicated beat saber TH-camrs out there. If you need a break that's okay! Your audience isn't going anywhere. Love your content!
I aint gonna sugar coat the situation with "take ur time" and affirmation... but im always here if u need an opinion or advice and im sure many others close to u are aswell
Take ur time dude you never have to be perfect and just take ur time, take a break if you need no pressure at all dude your my biggest insparation in bsr dude
Slowing down and uploading more enjoyable mods or ideas sounds like a great plan, you could even start uploading stream highlights if you end up streaming enough. I'm pretty sure most of the TH-cam audience doesn't even play intense ranked maps on their own time so I doubt they would even notice the difference that much. Ultimately whatever you decide to do is fine by TH-cam so no need to pressure yourself, just don't pull a bandoot, not yet.. Anyways GL
Doing Streams or YT Live streams would seem Fun, just make sure You’re Also Giving yourself Physical and Mental Self care and set Up Your limits, Your content Has been very nice to watch and still is, hope you’re alr dude
Time to ramble for far too long, here's my two cents on a few things you mentioned as someone who has ridden the TH-cam rollercoaster for quite a while. Editing: Your editing is fantastic, that is probably the top reason I continue to watch your videos. It can definitely be hard, especially in a community where content can often go viral with almost no editing whatsoever, but flashes in the pan are a nightmare to rely on, so I would just stick with what you are doing. Also, it can be tempting to always one up yourself when it comes to editing, but you have to understand if you are already a stand out creator in terms of video quality within your niche, you really have no need to step on the gas, especially when editing too much can permanently harm your relationship with your channel and making video. You just need to trust that you are already making great videos, and continue to do what you have been doing. Take it from me, you are making great videos, so just don't doubt yourself (easier said than done). It is like with any test in school, once you've thought about it and marked your answer, just move on, you'll probably end up with pretty much the same score and much less stress. Beat Saber: I have some extremely strong opinions when it comes to Beat Saber and games in general, so take this with a grain of salt, but I despise the trend in every game having to be hyper competitive. If someone wants to play a game competitively, they can go right ahead. No problem here. However, I have found that constantly trying to improve at games is something that seems fun at first but slowly looses its luster. All of my friends, myself included, who started to play a lot of competitive games a while ago, have since then distanced themselves from it. My main problem is competitive games are generally fun when you win and not fun when you lose. What happened to playing games for fun? I know that is really a personal choice but I cannot describe how often I see comments that say something a long the lines of "you'd be better if you did this" when it is never considered as to whether that would be more fun or not. Yapping aside, I have made my goal in playing Beat Saber to play it for fun, and a while back I played Osu for a while with the only goal of becoming better, and I can firmly say I've played Beat Saber significantly longer and I enjoy it significantly more. TH-cam: There are two things with a TH-cam channel to consider the most. Your enjoyment making content, and viewers enjoyment of your content. Some people will claim that your enjoyment isn't as important if you are "making a lot of money" but the thousands of inactive channels with over a million subscribers just directly disprove that. Money can be a factor, but it is borderline impossible to be your sole motivation, especially if you are the one editing the videos. These two factors, your enjoyment and viewers enjoyment, must live in equilibrium. If you truly loved making one type of video, but it does not entertain anyone, then it kind of invalidates putting the videos on TH-cam in the first place. But if viewers love one kind of content, and you hate making it, you can force it for a while, but it will come crashing down eventually. So you need to find videos you enjoy making, while they might not be your absolute favorite, they may be the ones that create this equilibrium. Experiment: Try different things with your content. Of course, you've established a niche of Beat Saber, so I would stay within that niche, but neither you nor viewers really know what video will do "the best." Easily the most popular video series I've ever made I made out of absolutely nowhere. The editing sucked, the format sucked, but the idea was pretty good. Thus I was able iterate on the style, the idea, and the format until it became a series I am very proud of. They key to experimenting is not to hype fixate on views, that video got like 20 views when I first posted it, but new ideas take time to grow. Upload Schedule: This is probably my hottest take here, but I think a strict upload schedule is ever so slightly beneficial if you stick to it, but if it becomes a chore it should go out the window. Like I said earlier, if you are forcing editing which can come through something like an upload schedule, you may not pay the price now but you will pay the price later. Viewer retention, at least from my experience, is a much more influential metric on video and channel success than how consistently you upload. I think the error is confusing consistency with working on videos and publishing videos. One is the cause and the other is the effect, but videos just don't take the same time to make, so focusing too much on the effect can drastically harm the cause, when you should really be focusing on the cause and the effect will follow suit. Comments: Just take them with a grain of salt. Before I ever made any videos my understanding of how videos are made and how much effort it takes was just utterly incorrect. From the tone and content of many comments I read, it seems many people have an incorrect understanding of videos as well. Of course, the best solution would be for everyone to understand, but that is just impossible to rely on. There will always be people who simply think something like "this 3 minute video probably took 10 minutes to edit" when it took days. But if a child comes up to you and starts explaining something like math incorrectly to you, both angrily lecturing them and questioning your own understanding are bad ways to respond, the best you can do is just acknowledge it and move on. I'll stop myself here, but yeah, take your time and be rational about it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment so in depth! I agree with a lot of stuff you said, beat saber should be fun! It's not really made to be super competetively anyways, and once I stopped caring about improving, I lost a lot of reason to play the game alltogether, because that's how I've been playing for the past ~3 years. (so if you or anyone else have tips to enjoy the game more let me know!!) Thank you so much aswell for the kind words about my editing, I put a lot of thought behind it and appreciate someone watching because of it! I enjoy going really in depth with editing and just videos alltogether, even if it's not so benefitical in this niche. I would love to continue doing youtube, but my passion for the game right now just isn't there, I played yesterday and it was allright, but mostly because my friend was there, I want to try stream and play myself, see if streaming could make me enjoy the game again.
i completely agree with the other comments, take your time, as i like to say: no rush, no pressure. i particularly will be around waiting for your eventual return. (edit: i hope you get well soon aswell. also upload whatever you want, it's your channel of course.)
hey tibytes, fellow dutchman they say, it's ok, you don't have to force yourself to something you do not want to do, just take a break from the game, upload some stuff you do in the meantime, cause you don't HAVE to upload beatsaber video's, it's kinda weird for me to say this since i've looked up to you as one of the best beatsaber players from my country ever since i've started playing, but you really have to take a break otherwise you might seriously find yourself not enjoying the game anymore.
